I need to apologize for canceling this tournament. I have had multiple disgruntled players indicate that players initiated positions in the market prior to the start of the tournament.

I know what they are referencing because I created the tournament yesterday, and indicated a start day of today, yet the game allowed me, as well as others to initiate positions yesterday and as a result players are already displeased.

I will allow the tournament to keep running for the underlying pleasure of competing, but I am canceling the prize money portion of this due to players already expressing discontent.

I apologize to everybody. I rushed into this without testing the tournament functionality. I hope I have not caused any undue stress to you guys.

I will need to look at this closer prior to trying this again.

Yup. ETA: This is definitely slower than MW, though. Market orders are randomly delayed 0-5 minutes.

I was able to create a new account without referencing my facebook account.

I had an aol account i created back in the 90s.  Somehow it was still active and I remembered it, so there.

So I don't get a place?

I don't have facebook and nobody has AOL, I feel like a lot of people will be left out of this.

I'm having a lot of trouble with the marketwatch website. It will not allow me to log in and the link http://www.marketwatch.com/game/vsmc1 will not load.
Anyone else having issues or is it just me?

This would be more fun if we were trading in altcoins rather than boring old stocks.

I will still pay out the top 3 as promised for the amounts promised. I am going to play as well, but just for bragging rights...not for prize money.

Since there wasn't 20 people registered for this tournament, are the top 3 still going to get paid $50/$30/$20? Or is it going to be top 1 or top 2 or no prizes this round? Just wondering. Either way, should be fun.

I think you should be fine. I was worried about that initially as well when the total number of people displayed in the rankings were just 6 people, but after I looked a little closer it appears that the rankings are only displaying names of people who were registered prior to 4:21pm Eastern Standard Time (Once the markets closed for trading basically) which was about 4 hours ago.

I registered in the game as wetseals, I see me in the contest on my account, but I do not show in the rankings.  Am I in it?

To see if you registered correctly all you need to do is log into your Marketwatch account and then go to this link (for this first round):

At the top of the screen you should see the words "My games"

If you see "VSMC1" listed, then you have joined properly.

After talking to the OP, I am playing.  He does not want me to be eligible for the prize, since it may be construed that I am an alternate account of his, so I am playing with the knowledge that if I win, 2nd place will win the bitcoin prize.

Hopefully I will be allowed to win the prize the next round, but I will be playing for free this time out.

The contest will begin at the open of the market April 2, and will run for one week until April 9.

It looks like we will have the first 20 people signed up very soon, so I thought I would step in before we hit the 20 mark and offer some further information.

I will start the first competition at the opening bell Wednesday morning. I will post the tournament information Tuesday, and that will allow all interested parties a day to read this thread and be prepared to begin the next day.

I plan on running a second competition for an additional 20 people so feel free to keep adding your names to the list and if you do not make the cut for the first competition, you will be placed on the second round.

I want as many different people to compete, so competitors may only participate in a single competition.

It's on just because we use bitcoin for higher risk and return risks doesn't mean we can't play the stock market

April 2nd update as of 2:00PM EST-The Marketwatch platform seems to be too slow, so I have set all of us up with a new competition at WallstreetSurvivor. We will need to start the competition over beginning April 3rd. I apologize for the switch, but I think most people would agree that the Marketwatch platform failed to live up to our expectations. The prize money will be the same as listed earlier.

This free to use platform allows people to create competitions whereby contestants compete against each other with fictitious bankrolls.

I am going to begin offering freerolls each week with payouts of $100 worth of bitcoin to the top players.

1st Place will receive $50.00
2nd Place will receive $30.00
3rd Place will receive $20.00


Qualified contestants will compete against each other for a one week time frame. Contestants will start with $100,000 bankroll. Contestants will be able to buy and sell any stock on any major US exchange while attempting to increase their account value as much as possible before the conclusion of each tournament.

The WallstreetSurvivor website will monitor each player's performance and will rank each player in the competition so each contestant can see their performance in relation to the other contestants.

Cost to enter: FREE

Qualifications to be chosen as a competitor: You must have at least 50 posts on Bitcointalk. Additionally you must have an account which is at least 30 days old.

My goal for creating the competition: Eventually I intend on monetizing the competition. Yet, I felt the best initial approach would be to simply supply all the prize money myself, and eliminate any fears in the minds of the competitors.

I only ask one thing from the winners of the competition. Simply verify on this thread that you were actually paid your winnings after I send you your prize money.
