Phones with NFC are quite rare right now; I'm only aware of one on the market today. So it's going to be a couple of years as people upgrade.

now something that might be a great idea.. is creating an app which can embed a transaction in to a QR code on the fly.. (either a recieving app, or a payment) and let a QR reader read it off a phone screen.

No reason at all this couldn't be done. QR code, bar code, whatever, the transaction data could easily be embedded. Another thing that could be done (although this is much more risky unless done right) is bluetooth to bluetooth transactions. That way, older 'feature' phones don't miss out on the fun.

Unlike QR codes for instance, NFC requires way more hardware on both ends. So adoption rate is probably going to be pretty slow.

or worse... some one just walks by your purse with a scanner, and rips out a 'payment' without you knowing until you pull your phone out next :\
i'm sure they will make it so you have to prep your phone before it will accept a transaction.. but even if one in 100 accidentally fatfinger a transaction prep.. thats alot o fmoney.

...the ability for consumers to pay for purchases simply by waving their phone near a cash register.

If you lose your phone then you have to 'cancel your credit card(s)?'
