What do you think? It's really difficult to say since we are not really privy on the investigations. In the end it will just be an uneducated speculation in our end if we do so.

In today's news is a story about the murder of Karina Vetrano, a woman killed in 2016 while jogging in NY.

Shortly after her murder, people pointed out similarities to an unsolved murder from 1995, that of Maria Alves.

When Ms Alves was killed the NYPD commissioner put 50 detectives on the case and a vast amount of resources, but no progress was made.

Shortly after people began pointing out the similarities between the two cases, police solved the older case, accusing a person who died in 1997. https://nypost.com/2017/01/03/focus-on-joggers-murder-helps-cops-solve-1995-cold-case/

There are some questions about the person arrested in the recent murder https://www.thedailybeast.com/he-confessed-to-karina-vetranos-murder-but-did-he-do-it but this question is about the 1995 murder.

Do you think the case was really solved? Or was it 'closed' for other reasons?
