There is a main problema about this idea, to implementar It you need that all People have accesos to Internet, and that's something hard to implement. And those without access to Internet will not be able to vote.

So, from my point of view the idea is good but the implementación is complex.
It becomes complex because privacy is being invaded for which every government is giving importance. Thus, there will be some hindrances about red tape and bureaucracy about it. There will be officials/politicians that will be subject against it because they've got some ploy or there will be plans that can't be executed when there's transparency with the votes and can be seen real-time through blockchain. It's a good technology to be adopted if the whole sector of the government agrees to make a plan and law for this. I am optimistic about it upon understanding the basics of blockchain and how it works but realizing that a government will always work as a government, looks like this is going to take time until forever to be tested by most.

Where there is no internet, the traditional way of getting to the polling station with internet access would be used, but the same blockchain would certainly be used for counting votes.
Probably the main problem is how to solve the secrecy of the voting and that the results are visible only after the voting is closed.

No voting system will work 100% correctly as long as there are criminals in a population. What you described won’t work as ID’s are issued by the gov so, if a corrupt gov official issues fake id’s, there will be many fake voters. We need to work more on educating people because it is all about the people in the end. If there are more fraudsters than honest people in a population, no matter what system you use, it simply won’t work because these people won’t even want to elect honest people. They will hate you when you try to teach them some wisdom. Raise better kids. There is no other way.

We don’t need to use a blockchain for every problem there is anyway. Sometimes centralized systems work even better and most of the time they are faster.

Satoshi saved the world from fiat, my purpose here is to create a voting system that saves the world from archaic voting systems.  My technical knowledge is laughable.

Would it be possible to create a qt that can be merge mined with Bitcoin to achieve this?  It could be integrated with government identification departments that issue the coins to each ID recipient.  They get their ID and a voting coin.  Governments could offer tax breaks to mining companies that participate in securing the network by merge mining it for a few hours during the election.  Everyone votes from home.  Is this a pipe dream?

Actually, there are countries that have conducted voting or are interested in using blockchains; these are the US, Sierra Leone in particular, and Japan and Russia. Many of these countries face a lot of challenges on their trials, and there may be some flaws that need to be corrected and are are unlikely to be adopted globally, the present globally set up are already good to try blockchain as an option, but we really never know.
Since some countries have tested and planning to test it, we never know if there will come a system that will perfect voting through blockchain.

Its possible but it will be very challenging because not all voters are equal in their understanding on how a blockchain works, We do not have a country where 100% of its people understand how a blockchain works and those who do not understand it will be subjected to manipulation by cohorts of corrupt politicians.
And besides, there's a possibility that the privacy of the voters will be invaded; the current voting system, especially in a country like US, may not be 100% perfect, but the accuracy is enough to accept its result.

Isn't there a common voter right to privacy?   Can a husband/boss force his wife/employee to tell him where their vote went?
In Brazil, it's in the Constitution that voting is required to be secret, mostly because it would be really easy to buy votes or threaten people on smaller and poorer cities. Even today some cities are ran by powerful people who own most of the bussiness and have the power to win everything by buying votes indirectly. Tongue

I guess most countries take that in consideration to not make votes public.

1. Some people don't want to reveal who they vote for.

I don't think the public would stand for such an invasion of privacy, nor would the government dare legislate it.

It's technically possible, but i mostly agree it's pipe dream since,
1. Some people don't want to reveal who they vote for.
2. Average people might find it's technically complex, which increase risks they got hacked.
3. Government could find other way to cheat, such as creating ID for non-exist citizen.

The decision to include Bitcoin with government identification is fanciful and may call into question the viability of blockchain technology.

Voting systems using blockchain can certainly be and are technically being implemented in various important sectors such as agriculture and military equipment for data storage and other important sectors.

Is this a pipe dream?

I've come across this idea before, and I'm skeptical about its potential impact on the voting system. While blockchain technology does make votes visible and recorded for everyone to see, governments can still manipulate the system. All they need to do is create a centralized token or coin, give it a name, and require valid voters to broadcast a transaction on the network as their vote. The vote would be recorded on a blockchain, but that doesn't necessarily prevent manipulation. As Charles-Tim pointed out, if people can be bribed to cheat in elections, how would this system be any different? It seems like more of the same

If it's already connected to the centralized government identification departments, what's stopping/preventing them from just using their own system for the entire voting process? Why do they need a blockchain for that?
According to what I understand about election, it is not the technology that the government used that is faulty. What that is faulty is how voting can be rigged or manipulated through unlawful means. Also how people are bribed which can alter their decision in the voting. Blockchain voting can neither also change this. But in storing data for the public to see, I think it would be perfect.
