I think that a forum is useful for a number of reasons. Community help is one of them, but we have a problem here. A member can ask a question, and receive two or three helpful replies. Then the sig spammers kick in, and you get posts containing the same replies rehashed, or incorrect replies. This makes it difficult to spot and constructive additions to the original question.

Another useful function is the dissemination of information, but again this generates spam responses such as  'great, I'll check it out later'. Idle banter is great for relaxation, and the wall thread is a great example of this. It isn't a problem if it is confined to one or two threads, and I guess the admins have to decide if posting there should be included in activity and post counts.

I think your reports would be useful, actually. I'm not nearly as busy on this forum as you are, but somehow I seem to have run into all the same repetitive posts you have, including the Newbies sadness thread, which is pretty ridiculous.

The part I found most interesting in your report was that you consider technical support posts to be merit-worthy, both for the person seeking support and the person granting support.

I'd be interested in seeing what other merit-worthy posts you encounter. Personally I tend to figure that if the post contributes something useful, even if it's putting old information into a different format, then it's merit-worthy. But statistically, there aren't that many posts like that. A lot more people begging for merit and such, which I find tiresome.

I should also mention... that if people openly share a story about how they were scammed and what they learned from the experience, I will often award some merit to that, at least to counter all the know-it-alls who insist on piling on about what an idiot they were to fall for it in the first place. Soft spot, pet peeve. So yeah, if I ever were to become a merit source, that would be one way to get merit out of me LOL.

I remembered that you have metioned that you are a user of Steemit, did it crossed to your mind on using Steemit as your blogging platform as well? I also notice that they have a tag for Bitcointalk as well but it is not one of the most profitable ones. But the way I see it is if you became active long enough and posting Bitcointalk related blogs on the platform you can gather the audience of BCT users there. Also you won't have to worry about hosting and site design as what you will do is to write and post to create your blog.

The chatroom started with just me and a couple of other sources, but it has expanded to other Legendaries and Heroes with supportive roles in the forum, and with an interest in improving the quality of the boards.
hmm   Smiley

But, there's simply too many current posts that end up sucking my merits from me.
This is a positive sign. It means members are more focused on creating good contents and the merit system IS working without any doubt.

Gotcha! Welsh is another confirmed merit source.  Grin

Clue: If my memory serves me right then Jet Cash mentioned somewhere that he manage a chatroom with other merit sources

Nah, I'm not a merit source if I were I would have pumped out a lot more merits than I have done. Plus, Jet Cash  is right I wouldn't need the list. I normally jot down the url of any posts I find interesting or whatever, and then review them later on once I have merits to spend. But, there's simply too many current posts that end up sucking my merits from me.

I don't think he is, if he was, he wouldn't be short of source merits.

I'm on the phone at the moment. Can we discuss this in the chatroom later?

If you are interested I've currently got around 100 posts saved to a text document that I plan on revisiting at a later date when I have the required merit. Unfortunately, I just keep adding to the list, and there's some pretty good posts that haven't been merited at all in there. My policies of what should be given merit might differ from you, but you might find it useful for a few of them. There's a lot of higher ranked accounts in there though, and that's because I don't tend to care about what rank the user is, and only care about the content they are spitting out.

Should prove to be a useful source of information for members looking to earn merit points once you've got a bit of post history on there. The first one seems like common sense to me, but I guess that's sometimes in short supply on the forum, so a decent starting point. How often are you planning to post on there? Presuming it will be on an ad hoc basis whenever you've done a bit of trawling. Once or twice a week would probably do the trick to build up a varied selection of posts.

I noticed that there is a comment 'awaiting moderation', is that to avoid an influx of useless comments? Only because I normally find that un-moderated comment sections can be quite useful, and saves you the job of having to check through them all on a regular basis. As an alternative you could always do a weekly run through and moderate any that you don't think add anything to the conversation.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
This reads like:
Dear diary, today was a long and exhausting day. I went out full of energy and hope, bearing gifts, ready to share, wanting to help those in need. I headed out towards the slums, where drunkards lie in puddles of their own excrements, and beggars gaze at you like vultures at a dying animal.
The first guy that I passed looked so disgusting that I felt the need to hold my breath and keep walking. The second one spoke in broken English, so I went on. I'm not going to waste my precious time on refugees.  The third one appeared out of nowhere and begun to share his life story. It was too long, so I didn't bother to listen, but I dropped a couple coins to distract him. It worked out surprisingly well and I even managed to take my leave before he picked them all up. No hand kissing this time.
Another day, another good deed.

I took you off. You were only on there for including images in your posts if i remember correctly.

You should realise that you must be off the list, as I'm talking to you. Smiley

Wordpress was created from the old B2 blogging CMS. The other fork from B2 was B2evolution. I looked at both of them, and I didn't really like Wordpress, and I feel it is more vulnerable to hacking. I used to use B2evolution, and I'm having to refresh my memory, and that's why I haven't done much with it. I was considering Drupal, but that's a bit overkill in my opinion. I just felt that B2evolution is a simpler and cleaner implementation of the old B2 software. I know it doesn't have as much support, and as many addons, but that is an advantage for me. Smiley
There you go old school phobia I guess (may be, not sure, don't slap my face LOL)
By the way I wonder am I in the ignore list  Tongue

Any reason why you didn't use WordPress as a CMS instead? It's very easy to use(probably even easier than B2evolution due to better GUI) and it's far more modernized and the updated plugins do help a lot. But I guess that it's fine as long as B2evolution works I guess. Nice blog nonetheless.

>_<

It was nice to read your blog, for I was feeling the same. It is curious we have taken the same path today (I wasn't seeking for a post to reward, but for a post to answer or learn from) and came to the same conclusion. In my case, the results have been: 2 reported post, 5 answered, 20 reads and, in conclusion, nothing new on the table, for, in general, the topics I've read are:
- Politics and society: nothing of interest. I can't expend my time reading a topic about meditation of the point of life.
- Meta board: newcomers asking about to change the whole system, so they can rank-up quickly and with no effort.
- Beginners: once more, it should be rebaptized as "begginers".
- Bitcoin discussion: the "BTCvsETH" daily post, along with the traditional "BTC in the future?", or, "BTc and Gold?"  "blablablas".

So, yes, I feel your pain, man.

This was my initial thought as well. For blogging, I doubt there are any other better platform than wordpress. All you need is a good theme.

Definitely. I suggest OP to switch over to Wordpress instead as soon as possible, better right now as it looks like OP currently has only 2 blog post. It would be more difficult to migrate in the future when he/she has more posts.

I think pointing out the thread that you find interesting and meritable with a hyperlink is a good thing to do. It might help others to jump straight to the post/thread that you think worth-reading or meritable.

I've started my blog about life as a merit source. I'm using B2evolution as the CMS, and the site is more or less straight out of the box. I'll do some more customising, and add some articles over the weekend. I went on a merit awarding cruise through the boards, and I call that "walking the plank". I wrote a quick note about the experience, and you can read it here -

Let me know if you think these reports will be useful, and if you would like to see any changes in them.

Don't bother with the rest of the site at the moment, it's really just the sample pages that come with the package.

Nice one mate... I'm not sure If I should ask or offer this... Are you using a premium theme for the blog? If not then I can help you out. I have a bunches  of theme and I can install one for you. Let me know if you want to pick one: http://cdesignsuk.com/over-80-plus-wordpress-premium-themes-for-blog-website/

By the way I will do it for you without any charge. Just to support a good cause.

The beauty of the themes that you can drag and drop your contents.
