If they are simply blocking 8333 (unlikely, but possible), you might try this:

You could also -connect=178.79.170.173:28333 but that would limit that to one connection.

ya like deafboy said the static/dynamic doesn't matter..

if you mean wireless modem as in 3g/4g etc etc that should work as that should provide you with actual internet access. (internet being more than just looking at websites i mean Tongue

It's not important if you have static or dynamic IP. You need to have direct access to other bitcoin nodes on port 8333, or try to use proxy settings from your browser.

What if I use a wireless modem? It would have a dynamic ip address. Will I be ok if I use it, or still I wud have the same problem?

you probably dont have internet access and all your browsing and what not is done via the proxy server.

Nope! It has 0 connections. Moreover port 8333 (which i believe is the port used by bitcoin client) is still opened. Sad

Is your client connected at all?
Hover your mouse pointer on the bottom-right icons and see if it has at least some connections.

I have this problem. My bitcoin client says "wallet out of sync". Does it require a static ip address for bitcoin clients to work? Currenlty im using Ubuntu 11.10 and the internet connection is wifi type provided by my University. Is there a chance that they could block peer-to-peer connections?
