Now I am trying to decide if my bitcoin is stuck in Electrum and it is not retrievable?

When I made the watch-only wallet, it never gave me an option to create seeds, because I would have written those down and photographed the screen too.

So my bitcoin is sitting in this watch-only wallet at Electrum.

This is horrible. Sad Sad Is it lost coin?  Why would would anybody want a watch-only wallet?

This watch-only wallet traps your coin in there so it is inaccessible? Huh Huh

I'm now accepting any new replies to this topic for how to get my bitcoin off blockchain and into my ledger wallet. For I am totally lost now.

I figured it would be easy to just send to my ledger but then I had to open this Electrum wallet and things got a little confusing, didn't they...

 Sad Sad Sad Sad

why not just use blockchain.info to send your bitcoin to your ledger address?

Can I do that?  I figured the reason I am using this Electrum thing is because my bitcoin is basically stuck at blockchain.info.

Something is not adding up here.  Why is this so complicated?

My balance was also found at blockchain.info by plugging in my private key. So it's there, somewhere.

Hi Adolfin, yes my bitcoin balance is visible while logged-in with Electrum, and at the top of the Electrum screen it says "imported, watching-only". Does that mean my coin is now at Electrum, but it's stuck in a wallet that is watching-only?
that means you've imported by public address as watch-only address
you need to import by private key to be able to spend amount from that address

I have only tried one of the private keys at Electrum and it simply does not work. I am wondering what to do now, since my Electrum wallet is watching-only.. Angry
try re-import again by providing private keys to Electrum

Maybe my error is at Electrum's Install Wizard, it asks this:

Quote
What kind of wallet do you want to create?

Standard wallet
Wallet with two factor authentification
Multi-signature wallet
Import Bitcoin addresses or private keys

So far I have only tried that fourth option.. (and the fourth option creates a watching-only wallet)

I browsed through the Standard wallet option and it gives an option to use a hardware wallet..
Is that Standard wallet the one I need to use for putting my coin into my Ledger?

So you already "loaded" the wallet with the correct balance? -- Is your balance visible in your wallet itself yet? This to me sounds like you made a watch-only wallet, correct?

Can't you try importing all 4 of the keys in Electrum? One of them is bound to have some balance that way, depending from which script the adress is derived, right?

Correct: when I log-in to Electrum it shows my bitcoin, the original date of sending it to the blockchain, and the balance.

Also when I log in, an Information box pops up and says this:
Quote
"This wallet is watching-only. This means you will not be able to spend Bitcoins with it. Make sure you own the seed phrase or the private keys, before you request Bitcoins to be sent to this wallet."

What exactly does that mean?  laughing out loud.  This is insane.. Undecided Undecided

Hi 3rd Space, nope, my private key begins with 5.  After entering my private key into bitaddress.org, it gave me 4 different private keys (all of which I photographed for my record).

So I am making progress with this but now at Electrum, it will not accept my private key. At Electrum, I have it set-up to Send my coin into my Ledger, but now the issue is Electrum does not give me the button to send anything.

Talk about confusing. Huh Cool  It must be something to do with using the incorrect private key (since I have 4 private keys, which one do I use?). Also I need instructions for entering my private key into Electrum.. Do I use the "sweep" function?

So the website for bitaddress.org is back online today, so I did as suggested, and I went to their site, unplugged my internet, and then checked my private key.. Success!!

Yay.  So I have now confirmed it is a valid private key, with some BTC sitting there
when you do that, does the same public address shown on that bitaddress page?
since you said your private key is 51 chars starts with 5,
then your address should be the one below Bitcoin Address QR (on the left side)
does it match your public address from warp wallet?

From Warp Wallet I have a public key, a passcode, and a private key
just a simple question to confirm something, is your private key start with '6...'?
if it does then it's BIP38 encrypted, you need to decrypt it first to get the original privkey

Yay.  So I have now confirmed it is a valid private key, with some BTC sitting there

But.. the exact-same private key still does not work when I input it at Electrum..
did you use the passcode to decrpyt it? then you should get an unencrypted private key(s)
I think there is a way to import it with electrum android wallet using the QR and passcode
otherwise you should just use the regular unencrypted private key shown by bitaddress

Okay I'm at it again

I did as others suggested here at this topic and I went back to warp wallet and generated a temporary wallet, and Yes the temporary private key worked for accessing Electrum.

However, the thing about the actual private key in question (the one where I sent bitcoin too) is that I did not enter my private key incorrectly - because I have a clear photograph of the computer screen once I created: the public key, the (51 character) private key, and the bar code things.

So I wonder, can Warp Wallet generate bad keys?

Everyone is recommending to go to bitaddress.org to use that for verifying if the private key is valid. I keep trying to access their site in multiple ways and it says the site cant be reached.

Upon more research, I found this at a bitcointalk topic from somebody else with wallet issues:
"Ok...I tried Electrum...it works fine if you use the 51 character base58 private key....but it does not recognize the PRIVATE KEY BIP38 FORMAT...i need to try that to see if password decrypts it and then show private and public key correctly"

Folks... this is way over my head with "base58" and "bip38", but I have a feeling this is what has happened.

Can anyone help with instructions for unlocking this private key of mine and getting my bitcoin onto my Ledger?

When I created it with Warp Wallet, I took a photograph of the computer screen and it shows the public key, the private key, passphrase, and 2 QR Codes.

I don't get it.  I am typing my exact private key into Electrum and I've tried dozens of times.

Is there any other way to do this besides using Electrum?

So in the input window I used your "example" public address, and private address, and Electrum gave me the "Next" button.

But when I input my own private key, or my own public key, it does not give the "Next" button.

Then I typed my private key using WordPad, then copy/pasted it into the Electrum box, and still, no "Next" button..

 Huh

If next is not enabled it's usually a sign that the thing written down is not a correct private key.
Maybe a good start would be to check if the private key you've written down is a correct private key. I've found a thread about this here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-check-is-private-key-valid-1975790

Since even your address is visible only in circumstances I don't understand, maybe you get somebody else help you. Sorry.

What's this all about?

My guess is that you've written it incorrect.
Again, I advise you to check the steps with a temporary wallet you make so you understand first what you are doing.

Okay I am stuck at Electrum

I installed Electrum and checked "Import bitcoin address or private keys" and in the next window typed in my private key.
I did not copy/paste my private key because all I did was had it written on a piece of paper.

Now with my private key typed in, Electrum does not let me click "Next"

What's this all about?

Weird
I checked my paper wallet like 10 times and it matches exactly
But it only worked after I copy/pasted the address while being logged into my blockchain.info account..

Sorry, but this doesn't make sense.
And I proposed you to check with a test wallet.

For example, if you generate with warp wallet a new address from the words (no e-mail at all) : one two three
You get public 1ET88GAa6M2rxb3jkBm2phUA4aWB6W46oC and private 5KaKNDXjV1Y4vBQSZfS8bLvstvAsZxfeoDKkLuxUTZ3sYtGvrTc
If you paste the public into blockchain.info (without login) or you just open the link http://blockchain.info/address/1ET88GAa6M2rxb3jkBm2phUA4aWB6W46oC you'll see an empty valid address.

What could you do different, I am puzzled....

Okay scratch that..
So weird
It works now but

I had to log into my blockchain.info account and copy/pasted the public address

Otherwise, when I manually inputted it, the public address was not recognized...

Weird
I checked my paper wallet like 10 times and it matches exactly
But it only worked after I copy/pasted the address while being logged into my blockchain.info account..

Thanks for the pointers.

I'm stuck at the beginning
At blockchain.info I have inputted my public bitcoin address, and it is not showing up, saying it is unrecognized
I double-checked my public address several times, and tried it at blockchain.info and also chain.so

What gives?

Just the other day I checked my public address and it showed the amount of bitcoin in there..
Now it is like the public key does not exist anymore

What am I doing wrong here?

Hello clover12

You stated that you have the private key of your Warp Wallet, we suggest you use this private key to import your wallet within another wallet client.
Think of a client like Electrum which can be downloaded here.

After that you should import the private key from Warp Wallet, into the Electrum client. This can be done by selecting the option to recover an existing wallet by entering your private key.
Now you can easily send the BTC from your Electrum wallet straight to the Ledgers address.

With kind regards,
The Anycoin Direct team

Actually I am unsure how to even find my BTC from the Warp Wallet address
I know it is out there I just forgot how to find it.

From Warp Wallet I have a public key, a passcode, and a private key
At blockchain.info I have a username, a passcode, and a Wallet ID

How do I get this coin moved into my Ledger hardware wallet?

The public key from Warp Wallet is your address, I guess it starts with 1. If you go to blockchain.info, chain.so or other such site (block explorer) and paste this address you'll see how much Bitcoin you have there.
Make sure you keep your private key ... private (don't touch it for now).

One way to get access to your money is with Electrum. First of all make sure you are on a safe, virus free computer. Then download and install Electrum stand alone.
In electrum you create a wallet, but instead of "standard wallet" you check "Import bitcoin address or private keys" and in the next window you paste your private key.
It is a good practice to set a strong password, just in case.
Now you have your wallet in Electrum and you can send your money whenever you want and wherever you want, including one of the addresses the Ledger generated for you.

Edit: you can try the steps first with a temporary new address generated with WarpWallet, to see what happens. Also, in Electrum you can click on View/Show Addresses and check if the address in Electrum is the one you expect. Another thing: Electrum works by default with mBTC, maybe you change to BTC in Tools/Preferences.

Newbie here.

A few months ago I had some BTC sitting in a bitcoin wallet at blockchain.info.
Then I learned that blockchain.info is not really a cold wallet
So then I used Warp Wallet to generate a cold wallet address along with the private key
Then I moved that BTC to the public address generated with Warp Wallet

Today I would like to move that BTC into my Ledger hardware wallet
But since I am a massive newbie I am unsure how to move the BTC
Actually I am unsure how to even find my BTC from the Warp Wallet address
I know it is out there I just forgot how to find it.

From Warp Wallet I have a public key, a passcode, and a private key
At blockchain.info I have a username, a passcode, and a Wallet ID

How do I get this coin moved into my Ledger hardware wallet?

Thank you! Cheesy
