There's no difference in how much it takes to send coins from your core client or any other. There are 2 disadvantages of the core client that I see.
1. You need to download the blockchain, which currently is somewhere around 200GB and takes a couple weeks to download.
2. Every time you start your client it checks the files which takes a couple minutes and then proceeds to update itself, which can take another couple minutes, even if you turn it on every day.

If you want to use Electrum, which is what I prefer, read about sweeping your addresses. It's easy and will allow you to save time.

Hi,
If you want to sell them right away, you don't have to move them to Electrum before doing so.You can directly move them to an exchangeas there is no such "transactions can take a long time from the core client" either you sent them from Bitcore or from Electrum, they will take the same amount of time all depending on the fees you've selected, the higher the faster. As for the exchange,I recommend to do some research about the exchanges available in your country that convert Bitcoin to your local currency, and don't jump into it right away, make sure that the exchange in question is not a scam, you can easily find reviews and legitimacy state of it here at Bitcointalk or by searching on Google.
Keep mind that things have changed these last 5 years, don't hesitate to ask questions in this forum, there's plenty of people who are willing to help you avoid doing mistakes that can lead to losing your funds.
I hope it helps.

Hi - i am looking at selling bitcoins. Now i bought and sold a few bitcoins around 5 years ago just helping a friend out / trying to learn a little about crypto currency and I ended up just retaining a couple in bitcoin core. I haven't touched these since suffice to say i have the wallet.dat backed up on a usb and i have the passphrase. I updated bitcoin core a while back so it shows the bitcoins present but i wondered what or where is the best place to move these to and sell them as i understand transactions can take a long time from the core client? Is it best to move elsewhere such as Electrum. Any advice appreciated so i can just sell quickly. regards
Try to move on this board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=37.0
You will able to find out lots of experts when it comes to wallet clients.

As far as I know you cant able to import that wallet on electrum if it came from core.
