Another option I don't ever see people mention... is to get a list of all your email addresses and usernames you've used and there are websites you can check if those emails/usernames were comprised in data leaks and then you can find passwords used with those old email/usernames by downloading those data leaks. I was able to recover some old non-bitcoin related accounts because I was able to search my email address against over a billion records and found passwords I completely forgot I used to use all the time back in 2005-2009.

That's a great suggestion. One of the websites is https://haveibeenpwned.com/

I have a bitcoin wallet file (2016)
I only remember the first password I used
after that I changed my password for the second time, Unfortunately I forgot my password
I just wanted to ask people how to recover my wallet
thank.......

Another question that can be asked is whether you are creating passwords that make logical sense in understanding the meaning of a particular word or combination of words from a dictionary. If your current passwords for different services look like this, then the chances of a successful brute-force are better than with completely random passwords generated from the generator. Assuming, of course, that the password you have changed does not break the types of passwords you set.

Please PM me if you're interested in making a joint effort on cracking it. I will not ask for your wallet.dat, but guide you through the task of making a hash for it.

I am looking for a rescan wallet.dat
not bitcoin-qt

A rescan?

You are not "looking for a rescan".
As previously mentioned, if you don't recall what your password might be (e.g. you know the length, charset, anything..) and the password is longer than a few chars (like 5-7), then your chances are pretty much zero.

If you don't have an old backup (prior to changing the password) or your password written down anywhere, you are unfortunately out of luck.

Oh, and btw.. if you bought the wallet file, you got scammed. There is nothing to get out of it.

If you have a backup of the wallet file when you were using this password, you can use the backup to access your coin using the old password (assuming it was encrypted using the same passphrase)

successhalf, are you sure that the password is not saved anywhere, is there at least a 1% chance that you wrote it down? Also, if you remember the first password, maybe the second password is similar in number of characters and their type which could help you try brute force.

Is there a possibility that it is a password with some predictable words, numbers from your everyday life? 2016 wasn't that long ago, your best chance is to take a piece of paper and a pen and try to write down all the possible passwords that come to your mind by comparing the ones you still remember from that period.
I even forgot the email I used
tried to recall

You can try to brute force it.
If it is only few words then your chances on a successful recovery will be higher.  Smiley

If you remember nothing of your 2nd password, then your coins are locked in that wallet forever. There is no "shortcut", no "backdoor", no "trick"... the only way to get access is with the password.

How much did you pay for it?
my wallet

Do you remember anything about the password or what it could've resembled? I. E would it have had 8 characters, alphanumeric only or with special characters?

Do you know any passwords around the time also, there could be a style you've created with how you make them?
I only remember the first password I used
the password was then changed, I didn't remember

If you can't even remember characteristic of your password (such as password length, usage of special character, etc.), it's nearly impossible to recover your Bitcoin.

I only remember the first password I used
the password was then changed, I didn't remember

If you don't have any backup like seed phrase or private keys it will be hard to recover.

Bitcoin Core wallet doesn't give you seed, but only private key and master private key.

That's right, the bitcoin core doesn't provide any seed phrase

If you don't have any backup like seed phrase or private keys it will be hard to recover.

However, there is a guide that you can brute the wallet file if you can remember some parts of the password you can maybe get the right password in one day.

Take a look at this guide below they called it BTCrecover.
