As I said in my first post that I know it won't be profitable. I'm doing this for a solo miner, and that's exactly why I'm looking for obsolete stuff - If nothing but an S9 is profitable these days, then there are probably a lot of miners collecting dust out there that someone might be willing to part with.

I'm looking to build a solo miner with my son for the Raspberry Pi he got for Christmas. We are currently running my old block erupters and we'd like to play around with bigger miners.

My budget is around $100 or so and I am looking for the maximum GH/s bang for our buck on that - knowing, of course, that any miner in that price range is simply not going to be profitable. I'm not familiar with every device out there, but it seems like the Gekkoscience 2pacs and old Rockminer R Boxes would be good. Basically, we want something that has a decent hash rate for the price but won't function as a portable space heater to make the bedroom too hot. For example, my old S1s aren't a good bet here, because they are noisy and run too hot.

If you have any old obsolete miners you could spare, please let me know. I live in the USA, for shipping.

And please, don't try to sell me your old USB antminers or block erupters for $50. There are enough charlatans on ebay selling overpriced devices to naive folks there who don't understand how mining works.

you gotta buy em s9 antminers or you gotta mine a altcoin or it isn't gonna be profitable ;/
