I do not think that is ok.You should be able to post on any thread anytime you so wished in as much as the posts are not spams
please try to convey the information on this thread before replying.

Should I try to add a post to a thread that is more than 14 days old on the Fit to Talk project, I get this warning message. -

Do you think it would be worth adding this feature to the Bitcoin Talk forum?
It a good initiative but only if the number of warming days ( 14 ) can be increased 21 days.
Indeed this will help reduce the way people spam forums.

Honestly, I have been reading "back" for as much as - say - 30 pages or 3 years for certain coins and projects, just to make sure I was making a well-considered investment and to make sure I wasn't buying something I didn't understand a thing about.

To me personally, it's easier to read about 1 coin/project/ICO in one or two long threads, than start doing my research spreaded over 20 differently posted threads all over the forum.

Auto lock was discussed several times and about several possible ways of auto-locking...
E.g.: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/auto-lock-of-topics-after-a-week-or-100-posts-to-solve-spammer-problem-3462180
While it will affect only 'normal' users, I'm afraid that the bots won't care a sh.t about it, they will open a new spam thread instead...
E.g.: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/user-nicholasio-created-16-topics-in-no-time-acceptable-practice-or-spamming-3557849
If spammers don't have a fancy topic they can spam into, they will create...
This is why the former newbie jail (or possible merit jail) is mentioned again and again these days...
E.g.: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/limit-newbies-daily-post-and-restrict-them-from-creating-a-thread-3733114
Still, there's no holy grail to solve the problem...

What makes you think a shitposter would take any notice of this? As Welsh already said we have a warning for much older threads but I regularly see threads bumped from years ago either with a shitpost or a copy and paste bot and then within days its got dozens of pages of the same sort of nonsense.

I prefer :
1- auto-lock feature of a topic after 45 days of inactivity (of course mods/OP could bump it if is an important thread).
2- getting this message after 3 weeks of inactivity.

Edit : @h&co : auto-lock +++

If the thread has more than 5 pages, and it was posted 14 days ago, then it would be great if members will not be able to post more posts because posting more is pointless as long as the OP has got his answer or people's opinions. Added to that, if the thread is old and has got no answer, then I think it would be best to keep it that way. However, people will resort to creating more topics and the sections will be spammed.

Usually I'd say yes, but in the case of BitcoinTalk I'm not so sure.

It would help guiding genuine users to stay well behaved, but once those are out of newbhood they will usually be considerate enough to check post dates first before replying. Our spammer friends on the other hand will simply not care at all and I'm afraid that they are at fault for most necroposts.

So on one hand I'm not sure if it would be all that effective, but on the other hand I wouldn't see much harm done.

This is currently in place here on the forum, however the warning is only present after 120 days instead of 14. Possibly reducing this number could result in less threads being bumped unnecessarily, but I do think 14 days is a little bit too low.

Message received when replying on a topic that hasn't had a reply in 120 days:
