I've read in a White Paper, that in case of a fork (for an ICO, that I don't remember the name) the developer /team of the coin will decide which of the two forks they are going to follow, and they will announce it to the public.
So I suppose that the same is going to happen for all the tokens, that exist in ETH.
However, now I have a new question.
What is going to happen to the abandoned tokens / ICO projects ??

I think there will be no effect on the original tokens, most of the erc-20 tokens are already upgrading to latest protocol erc-23, so there will not be major effect in my opinion.

I think the two will use different versions and that should not affect the tokens on them. The tokens compatible with the original Ethereum will remain with it, while those that are compatible with the hardfork will also remain with the hardfork Ethereum.
It is just an assumption.
This is an issue of compatibility.
Ethereum will always remain relevant.

I think vitalik won't allow it to happen so we are not going to get "classic" versions of erc20 tokens.  Roll Eyes
Anyways if it ever happens I am sure token creaters wll announce that they are going with new ethereum..
LOL,vitalik is pro-forks because if he isnt he wont be existing and ethereum too as far as i know ETC or ethereum classic team are the ones who wont allow to have forks in ethereum's chain back then, but the original forks has split into two which is now the ETHEREUM which vitalik has and ETHEREUM CLASSIC with the people who doesnt want to have fork in the original chain.

there is one thing that makes their superior erc 20 made in one time without using a machine and is very transparent from the side of TX hash to suplly. it's just that the type of ERC 20 tokens is now very much due to the many emerging new ICO. this makes ERC20 no longer a luxury for holders  Undecided

If it's done right nothing special. That is the beauty of blockchain, you can create and change it in many ways. You can call it architecture.
I'm not an expert in that field so I don't even want to try to explain it.

In that case you would have the same tokens in both chains but it's most likely that the tokens of one of the two chains were worthless. For example, there is a project that launches a token, then there is a fork and the team of that project decides which chain they will follow and what tokens will be used in their platform or traded and which not.

I'm not an expert either. But I believe if two chains exists, every tokens would too exist in two versions but not interchangeable. It's upto the token to decide which one is their own token or they can go with both if they want. The chain you use would be decided by the client you use as the private keys and address would be the same.

A very interesting question, to which I unfortunately can not give the correct answer, because I simply do not know it, probably nothing will happen to projects and tokens on erc-20, because they must be mutable.

What happens if a strong team fights against Ethereum's ASIC mining and a hardfork creates a new ETHEREUM?
Will this have a catastrophic impact on the cryptographic market as a whole?
What happens to the ERC-20 tokens?
