I have yet to hear of someone using hydropower for mining. Is there any information about this?

Your best bet for information would be on homesteading communities. There are quite a few youtube videos of people showing their home hydro-electric systems feeding battery's. You could do it, but you would need a good electrician with knowledge of handling unstable power inputs, plus you will probably have to step the voltage up or down depending on the generator output.
