Almost everyone is concerned about the economy: prices, housing, wages, stock market fluctuations… Yet, despite our intense focus on these issues, as ordinary individuals, it seems like we can't make a dent in them. Economic policies, global markets, and decisions made by big companies often dictate the direction of the economy, and we can only passively accept it.

But does this mean we’re truly powerless? Do you think there are ways we can influence the economy, even if just on a small scale? Or are we simply left to protect ourselves and make adjustments within this system?
Everyone has an important role in the economic order. It's just that the scale varies greatly from one person to another. There are people who can only move the economy on a small scale, such as for themselves or for their family and those closest to them. There are also people who can really move the economy on a large scale, such as people who have achieved great wealth. Those who own giant companies and so on. And actually, our small role also indirectly becomes one of the driving forces in the global economy, although not directly. Because basically the global economy is a collection of everything. So if we really care about better economic development for everyone, we must first focus on improving the economy within ourselves first. Because we will only be able to help more people if we have first achieved greater success than the other people we help. Those who currently have a big influence also come from ordinary people who started from zero. So I think everyone plays a role in their own way.

With the economy going now, the inflation is increasing, and you as an individual cannot do anything about it. The government controls many things, especially things that led to the economy's collapse to this extent, all because of bad governance, and we the citizens can’t do anything about it. So you, as a citizen, just make sure, regardless of how the economy will be, you are trying your possible best to meet your necessary needs, taking care of yourself, your family, and the people around you. That is the solution because nothing you can do about the current situation of the economy as an individual is left for the government.

That's right, bro, complete authority lies with the government, we just have to follow all the directions from the government, we want to improve the current economy but we don't have the authority to do that, so what we have to do now is maintain the economy of our respective families, continue to do as best as possible to protect our respective families, in this way we have saved our families first, and by keeping our income stable and we set aside little by little for our needs when unexpected things happen.

I feel like we can't do anything about inflation and only thing we can do is try to keep our income growing bigger than the inflation. So if this year there is a 10% inflation, then your income should grow 10%+ this year, if we can do that then we are going to end up with a lot better result and it would be a good thing, that would be a great thing.

We should definitely see this changing with time but as long as we can do something like this it shouldn't be a big issue. Just get higher than inflation and it would be good and it would be a good thing. If you are making a lower than inflation that would be something that would take a while. I think it's clear that we are going to see this changing and we can't really consider this as anything we can do, it's about how we can only deal with what we have instead.

In the bigger picture and collective sphere we are powerless, but we can make the difference in our personal lives and that is where you should focus your efforts. Invest in yourself, develop yourself and you will be impacting the ones around you positively. That is everything you should care about. You aren't going to change or save the world from its own mediocrity, so try to save yourself and the ones who you love and care for mutually.

If everyone thought like that, the small scale would turn into a big one, affecting the whole society in all its levels positively. The problem is that we are used to get too worried about society and collective causes that we forget and lack time of taking care what is on our reach.

In the end, the ones who rule the world want to make you believe you truly have power to influence changes in the world (of course, when attending their personal interests), but at same time they also want you to neglect and forget about being powerful inside your personal existential sphere. The latter should be your goal, because the first means slavery...

In an economic situation that is far from good, as individuals, there is not much we can do, let alone help others, sometimes it is difficult to meet all our personal needs, and with this I think of course if you are in a difficult economic situation then the main thing you should prioritize is to help yourself in various ways that you can such as looking for a side job or other things that can make money.

But if it turns out that the impact of the economic crisis does not cause too many problems in your personal life and family for some reason such as you are an entrepreneur who has several businesses then you can think about the fate of others who are less fortunate by opening small jobs with minimum wages, although it cannot fully affect the economic situation in your country as a whole but at least you can ease the burden on some people, helping 10 out of 100 people to stay alive is much better than not at all.

As long as any company is producing something the masses treasured they would certainly have the power to influence the economy because if there is any little increase or lack of the product it becomes a challenge to the masses, so actually that's the reason why it looks as if most companies has an influence on a country economy especially those countries who depend on the private companies for production of some certain items, also is not like the ordinary people is powerless or does not have ideas to fight bad economy of any country but the problem is only if the government will give a listening ear to an ordinary individual.

Well the truth is that every country knows how to stop there economical challenge but the problem is if they are ready to fixed it because let's take for instance if the lack of a particular products is the major problem, is the obligation of the government to invest or hiring the right professionals that should be producing it withing the country in other to make itavailable for consumption, though individuals also plays a role on every economy such as those who have medium businesses that compromises of workers is also another of way of reducing unemployment citizens.
It's also quite difficult to fix something that you do not want to fix without giving too much power away as well. I mean if you take very little tax for just one year, everyone will get better, but at the same time people will want more of that when they see how awesome it was, then how are you going to pay for stuff as government if there are no more taxes. The reality is that we are talking about a world where it is going to be very tough for anyone to survive even with a great economy because we are wired to ruing it.

If you give everyone a lot of money and I mean like an utopia where it doesn't even cause inflation, then you are going to realize that the gap will be opened again and some will be rich while others will be poor, it never stops. So we should only focus on one thing, make sure that people can get shelter, food, health, education (and cops firefighters etc) for free, if they can get that and do that, then rest will be just difference and nothing more.

The best we can do is just support our local businesses.

This makes the community withstand any economic challenges since the money goes in cycle only within the community. This also creates more job in the community and allows for more innovation locally. While this will not change the economy completely, it is still a way to get a hold of some control at least within our communities.

Everyone will be helpless if they think they are helpless and even though they cannot change the direction of economic policy, we can still try to improve adjustments for the better. Money will not come by itself and money will not become more if we do not try to find a way so there needs to be a plan for the problem.
The way that can be done to influence the economy individually for the better because on a larger scale it is not our responsibility in the current conditions.

What we do determines the direction of finances and when talking individually our job is only to improve our ability to make money, not to change or influence the economy in general.
That is the job of people who have the ability to make money as a group and maybe they have a company because there are people working in it.

It's actually very simple, If you don't have any ability to change it, then you have to protect yourself to adapt to this system. Don't focus too much on something that is beyond your ability, just do your routine as usual to earn a living for your family, if you find that your expenses almost balance your income, start doing financial management by reducing spending money on things that are not really needed. Economic freedom in your life lies only in yourself, if you feel pressured and continue to complain about this system, then economic difficulties will have an impact on your life. Start improving your own economy, let the system run by itself.

BTC, a coin of today and tomorrow.
It appears that the ordinary citizen does not have the power to influence changes in the economy. This is because they are not interested with that duty and neither do they have the power to do anything. They will only have such power if they form a coalition are an organization with a purpose of influencing the economy positively. When many people come together the is power, the company or government can no longer say they are fighting individual, they will understand that they are fighting group of people.

However the troubles of the economy can be solved only by the government. But it is unfortunate that the government of today is somewhat clueless and emotionless. Because they are deaf to the cry of the common man, that is why it seems we are powerless.

The economy as a subject of study is dedicated to find out the most efficient way to use our resources, so while you cannot influence the way countries and multinational corporations do things, you have a great control over how you administer your own resources and I am not only talking about your money, I am also talking about your time, energy and even your feelings, and what can be a better example of this than someone that invest in bitcoin, as this is a move that not only has as an aim to increase your capital, but it also helps you to not be as dependent on the way the economy in general is managed as you are investing in an asset created specifically to run parallel to it.

It's like saying why can't a drop of water make a difference to a lake or a grain of sand to a beach? Why should an individual be able to have a disproportionate impact on the outcomes of billions of other people by their actions? You must think the world revolves around you with that mentality. Collectively lot's of individual decisions, like reducing spending when fearful of the economy crashing, can actually lead to the events that people are frightened will happen. The people who are most successful however, are those that can figure out when the masses are wrong and they take an alternative point of view that turns out to be correct. That's essentially how professional traders operate and make lots of money.

The current global economic system is indeed not improving, this is due to many reasons and factors that influence it, many people think like you, but what can you do, you only have power in the economic sector limited to your household or residential area.

Elon Musk, who has global power, cannot stem the flow of bad economic growth, especially as I said above, we are limited to the region, So you should just think about your life and family, I think that's better than having to die without service and without being appreciated.

The first thing we should pay attention to is ourselves, meaning when you are having problems due to the worsening economy, why should you think about others? Protect yourself first before you care about others because no matter what others will not care about what we experience.
But if it turns out that in a bad economic situation but you still have a lot of strength to stay alive because your financial situation is quite good, such as you are a successful businessman, then you can think about the fate of people who are less fortunate, you can use some of your money to build a new business with the aim of opening up jobs to help people who are less fortunate besides seeking profit from the business, at least it can help even on a small scale.

Don't be too obsessed with getting something that you can't achieve, as an ordinary person who doesn't have the power in terms of authority and strength with wealth, you can only change your own life to face inflation and other worst possibilities. Start taking action by generating passive income, take advantage of every moment you have to make money in any way. Changing your own economic condition is better than thinking about something that can drain your energy, you have to get used to adjusting to this system to be better prepared to face all the challenges that occur in life.

As a society, you can only accept the reality, this system will only make things more difficult for people in the lower middle class. while people who have power and wealth will take advantage of this situation to accumulate their wealth.

We as individuals are not powerless we also have our own part to play in the economy in short we are the most important part of the economy, government and big companies only formulate and regulate the economy but we implement their decisions.
I am not an economist but i know we have a lot of ways to change this economy and the main reason why the economy is getting worst is because we think we are powerless and have nothing to do in changing the economy. but by the time we will take full responsibility and start implementing them even the government will take the right step further thereby making the economy better.
In addition there are many activities we do that make the economy worst ,so we need to change for good if we really want the economy to be better.

Of course, everyone plays a role and the most important is from the lower middle class and that is always a benchmark for the level of welfare in an area. Sometimes there are also areas that need strengthening and of course this requires components that can boost the GDP level of its population and it can start from strengthening and improving the smallest item, namely in the family. So, I think with the arrival of many technological developments that are all internet-based, there are opportunities that can be utilized if you want to try and that is also another alternative that is also effective for increasing income besides using the old way of working.

The globe as we may see it are being controlled by few people such as; Businessman, politicians or a highly influential person in the society and of a true people who are known for their power often influence the society and they also look at control the market, while the average people has no option than to follow the populace. We usually think about that we can't do and within ourselves there are things we do and of course we have our legal right where you can also fight for a correction without any hesitant. If you know your legal right then you are also important to your control and can seek for change if you are on a legal power.

People care about the economy like prices, housing, wages...because it directly affects their lives and they care about it to find ways to balance their lives. I don't think everyone who cares about the economy wants to change the direction of the economy.

They have no power to change it. That's why they often talk more and do less. That's unlike someone who has power to change it, and he would do more and talk less.

I have seen many complaints about the economy. People have no power to change it, and it never changes.
It is difficult for someone who wants to change the economy but he alone has problems with his own economy, until whenever it will not go according to what he expects, so they can only speculate about their sad situation and share stories with other people who have the same fate without any change and movement that in the end they live like that until old.

Personally, I have never spent time trying to find a solution to save the economy or do anything to change it because it is beyond my ability, so I don't want to waste time on that. Instead, I look at economic fluctuations to find solutions that help me adapt to them, and that's what we should be aiming for. Instead of criticizing or offering vague solutions when we don't have the knowledge, expertise and ability to change them.

Unless you have a power like occupation in the government. You will never be able to implement your solution.

I don't wanna waste my time just to create a useless complaint that the government would never hear. As a civilian, what i can do is only accept any jurisdiction applied in my country and keep survive.
Yes, in the end, if we realize that we cannot change the economic situation of the country, we should be silent, and focus more on the economic development of our own families to survive, after all, what else should be taken care of and provided for, for me the important thing is that my family lives properly, and complaining is just a waste of time and our emotions, not worth doing at all.

Will the ocean become any less if you take out a glass of water from it? Or will it seem to become bigger if you pour a glass of water into it? No, you will not see any immediate results by doing any of the two things I have mentioned and the reason is that the ocean is too big for you to make a difference in it alone. It might make a difference if there are millions of people trying to make a change by doing the exact same thing together which will create some force that might make a change.

Economic systems are the same, they are too big to have any impact on something an individual does, so even if you try very hard, as long as the things you are doing are on an extremely small scale, that isn't going to make a dent. You need more power to make that happen, and power can come from different things, money is the main source.
The greatest example of this is that we have been buying or selling stocks as retail investors forever, we did it before, we are still doing it and we will keep doing it later in the future too. However, once upon a time, some dude decided that GME is a good stock, gamestop, he said he liked it, and some people listened to him, and suddenly we have seen millions of retail investors go all in and YOLO their way into making GME one of the highest earning stocks, and wall street lost for the first time against small guys, they were losing billions per day.

It's a great example than if you take one glass out it won't matter, but if millions take gallons out, it will show. Power is with unity, if we unite, then we are stronger than them.

No matter how we care about the economy we can never know where it's actually heading to, we are living in an inflationary society so there are things we can't change like the house you mentioned it keeps appreciating in price everyday though it affect us directly but there is absolutely nothing we can do to help it because the wages are being increased and in one way or the other production cost also do to balance it all the house itself will increase because we all buy food for consumption purpose and the price of these items does not differ much so for the owners of those houses to live up to the current days realties, they may not have any option than to increase their house rents,
Bills are also been increased by the government once they increase salaries and all these things affect the economy automatically.

Yea, looking for a ways to survive the current economy is the best approach because they more you try to understand the direction of the economy, the more confused you get in the process, so figuring out ways to survive and adapt to what our economy has brought to us is the wisest decision ever.

Economies are large structures and a single person or a small group cannot influence this. The fact that an economy can be easily influenced also shows the weakness of that economy.

In the current system, consumption represents a large part of the economy. Individuals who consume can influence the economy to some extent according to their consumption rates. It is not easy to direct the economy and it is difficult for people other than managers or large companies to do this. Individuals should organize their economic conditions according to the structure of the time and should primarily direct their own economies.

The large companies in the world also sell their products or goods to smaller companies so that these small companies will also make everyone interested in shopping with them at all times so that the economic cycle will continue to be seen in everyone's environment and you can conclude that all companies that produce any product will still need ordinary people who want to shop with them even though some companies only target certain groups in society to be able to increase their sales in the economic sector.

So you don't need to feel small and worry about it because besides we can follow the direction of the existing system, everyone can also create their own system as long as they are able to do so because to influence any market at this time of course must have a large capital and also a very strong network in order to be able to fight every competitor in the market. But if our own abilities are still quite limited, then just enjoy life as it is even though we have to keep trying to keep working for our own success.

While these global economic forces may always be beyond the control of the individual, yet these can still make their contributions to the economy in their little way. Through demand and pricing, consumers can make the impact by making necessary changes in spending, saving, investing, and patronizing local businesses. Economists are rather optimistic about 2024, foreseeing a "soft landing" where inflation would stabilize, although wages might not increase that much, and 2024 has not yet ended. We may not have the ability to change everything, but we can still make wise financial decisions that could somewhat mitigate the effects at a personal level.

People care about the economy like prices, housing, wages...because it directly affects their lives and they care about it to find ways to balance their lives. I don't think everyone who cares about the economy wants to change the direction of the economy.

A lot of people care very much about the economy but they can't Really change it direction because the world evolve around rich people, some people think about the economic downturn and how it as been affecting them, inflation has takeover the economy, and prices of all the commodities are rising day by day.

rent money, fees, and bills are also increasing but wage concession was not made and salaries are not enough to spend. Since they realized that economy is beyond them and they are aware that the world doesn't evolve around them and there is nothing they can do to make the economic better, then they accept the faith, and try their best to balance their own's lives.

We can vote for a political party or a candidate, that can change the economy, if they gather enough votes and get elected.
This is our only power, but it only applies to people, who are living in a functioning democracy. The people living under authoritarian or totalitarian regimes don't have such power. Electing your favorite politician or party sometimes can lead to a worse situation, because the politician/party often forget their promises and start doing the opposite of what they've promised.
Other than this, we can't do anything to change the economy. We can only adapt and try to take benefit from the economical and financial situation in our countries and the world in general.

Politicians are not worthy and they don't deserve to be trusted , you wouldn't know their true colour until their are been elected, the system of the economy is controlled by powerful people like politicians, businessmen etc, and they are the ones that can change the economy and make it better.
We just have to adapt and survive in this economic, despite the fact that we are not powerful enough to change the situation because we do not have the ability to do so, but we can still find a way to make our lives better and balanced.

A few users mentioned that we aren't powerless as individuals; however, I disagree. I don't believe there's much you can do on a global or even national level to assist. People need to be united in order to make a difference, something that's rarely seen nowadays. In our day and age, in order to survive in this economy, you need multiple sources of income and to constantly develop yourself with new skills and attributes that are going to assist you in your career.

Groceries, housing, and fuel have skyrocketed the past few years, and it's only going to get worse unless people unite to face the real issue: the politicians we elect. Until then, focus on ourselves to achieve a sustainable lifestyle.

I know your saying this because of the current economic situation but we aren't powerless, I think most countries undergo such inorder to wax strong and be champion someday. So it doesn't mean since we can't help we are of no importance to the economy and World but the betterment of it depends on each and every individuals in the society.

And the stability of the economy sector of a country clearly lies on government policy, what they decide and what they don't and this why so many things are affected by this but moreso there can be a change you know but with the current state of things I presume it's gonna take a longer time.and mostly is the masses that suffer for it, so if the government can make slight adjustment it'll definitely favour us all.
I use to wonder sometimes when there's a need for a change there's always an interruptions and boom everything will fall back to be affected by it.

As for the impact and change itself, it's not something that everyone can do... first of all, you have to be strong enough (mentally and financially capable) to make a big enough wave that can do something more. This carries great risks, if the powerful (people who control countries, institutions, media, etc.) do not like it and see a threat in you, you can immediately count on having gained very powerful enemies who are not afraid of anything.

The system was designed a long time ago, and it serves to keep the most powerful at the top. I don't mean all rich people, make a difference between power and wealth... the powerful are extremely rich, but not all rich are powerful people. Some people tried to make changes and they got removed. Take Satoshi Nakamoto for example...why did he invent something that can change the system and then disappear?

When you say we, I hope you know the government is nobody but we. If you remember the basic definition of government. It's a government of the people by the people and for the people but do we really practice that democracy? The answer is No, what we practice is the government of group of wealthy people that makes decisions and policy that will make them rich and richer while the common person suffer as if we don't really have a say in their decisions.

If government make a policy that is not favorable, we have the right and freedom to reject it but because there is bunch of clowns surrounding us and wouldn't form a unified voice, this becomes impossible. The economy can change direction but first of all, we need a uniform voice and say no is enough but since corruption is something that is tempting to a lot of people, this will be impossible like I said because the economy will only go the way the rich people want.

Yes, I accepted that. Most of the governments are corrupted and governments are taking bad steps for their country. Every government has to take good step for their country if they want prosperity in their country but they don't want to do anything for their public. Poor people are becoming more Poorer because of their government and all governments spent their money on election and they got votes by many illegal ways, So they  want to earn money and they want to compensate for that. Few governments take good steps for their public and they think about the comfort of their public but mostly governments are trying to withdraw all money from public money, I mean from tax.
The same thing is happening in my country. Politicians spend so much money for elections buying votes and bribing the electoral officials and the court to get favourable judgements. And they will want to recover all they have spent and make some profit.

The government is controlling the people through tax and anti-people policies. Recently the president of my country bought a new private jet and yacht meanwhile he is encouraging the people to endure economic hardship. They have increased crypto and other taxes. We all know that the world is facing terrible economic problems but leaders should maximize available resources instead of lavishing them. The number of middle-class households in society is reducing because of bad policies.

ways governments/banks manipulate the economy

real estate:
to manipulate and change the market direction so homes either sell at a price below or above 'comps' the banks that have just a few foreclosured homes sell to other banks or partners(circular) at a PAPER loss/gain of 'comps' to show a market change of 'comps' in the direction they want at a near zero real cost to them, which then affects all other homes in the area that does have a real market reaction

they also obviously change the interest rates to control who can afford to buy/re-mortgage homes and also for those on variable mortgage can price people out of continuing to afford to pay the payments

they can lobby local government that certain area's need to be gentrified/regenerated and cause forced purchase on properties they want as part of their project, or they lobby local government to not be funded in the maintenance/repair/cleanliness and appearance of an area to let a certain area become less appealing

government can enforce if foreign entities can own property domestically

governments can fund house building of private developers(low cost home grants) which affects supply/demand of existing homes

normal people cant fight those real estate tactics
the only thing people can do is to refuse to sell to corporations/foreign countries. however thats not a straight forward thing to do when people are forced to sell/foreclose and the only option is those corporation/foreign entity

retail:
government can choose when and to what amount to increase minimum wage to and other financial benefits affect the low income workers which can affect the retail goods prices. eg enforce matched pension, offering tax reliefs or enforcing tax revenue which all can affect retailers underlying costs. aswell as things like import taxes and also temporary immigrant labour laws for farm workers affects the costs of groceries in the end
fuel taxes and laws that affect the overall cost of the fuel market. EG can a business buy fuel at a government subsidised rate, or at a domestic rate compared to international market rate which then affects costs of goods

normal people cant fight those retail cost factors

the only thing people can change is if they 'buy local' to keep funds within the region/country.. as oppose to the retailer importing thus throwing money at other countries

The government controls almost every aspect of our lives and looks frustrating sometimes. Big companies enjoy monopoly and it becomes difficult for consumers to stand against their exploitations. We are not powerless since some of these governments a democratically elected. So we can vote them out during the next elections. If we are not comfortable with the present government, it should be reflected in our vote in the next elections.

Another potent means of showing that we are not powerless is through industrial actions (strikes) and protests. This year there were several protests which led to the change of policies and even governments.

The government robs the society and takes away their power to elect a good leader, with rigged elections. Days are gone when people made the decision of who rules or not. For most sitting leaders it's not cozy to hand out a new leadership to a complete stranger - not minding if it's the people's choice. Gently, citizens are becoming democratically powerless, and I'm not familiar with a protest or strike that changed a sitting leader.

It is a painful truth that we can not influence the economy on the macro level as ordinary citizens we're left at the mercy of the leadership capacity of our politicians. People that lives in underdeveloped countries, despite their experience and professionalism to make their economy better, it won't be easy. If their government is not proactive and cares for the development of their citizens they won't prosper because it's the government that makes decisions that will affect their economy. The only thing that is left for individuals in a country that wants to see progress and have a better life is to be the change that they want to see. In any small capacity that you can make your life and the economy better is what you should focus on.

Adjusting to the system of high inflation and imposition of high taxes is becoming unbearable, so we need to put in place a government that is willing to alleviate the sufferings of the masses. Corrupt leaders should be forcefully thrown out of office by all legal means.

The only thing we can do is vote for people we trust more than the current government. But what guarantees that the new government will treat us as well as they promised? Are politicians trustworthy? Because as far as I can see, I have not seen anyone who is proud or praising their government even though they have changed many presidents.

From what you say, I guess you are referring to Bangladesh, which recently went through a coup and change of government. But I want to know, what guarantees are there that their new government will be better than the old one? And if the new government is also corrupt and breaks its promises, will we continue to seek to overthrow the government?

I don't think that going on strike, protesting or engaging in anti-government activities is the solution. That will cause a lot of damage to us as well as the country's economy.

It is not possible for us to change the economy everything is generally moving forward. Despite the achievements and achievements some obstacles remain in any economy, some of which are external. Some are our underlying economic problems for example, if there is a fragility in the external world or a difficulty in the trade cycle in the past when there was a global economic collapse the poor suffered a lot. Therefore, in the current situation people of all professions have to adapt to the situation then it is easy to protect themselves.

I think the economy is a very, very big system and only a power like a country or money from a conglomerate can change it. On a smaller scale the economy is very difficult to change. We cannot expect to be able to change something in the market like setting a price or standard in selling or buying. There will always be people who seek big profits from the market. There will always be poor people and rich people from the economic system. What we can do is adapt and find a gap how to use everything we have to gain profit. Currently the skill and ability to utilize internet services will be a reference whether we can adapt to the economy in the modern era or not.

The whole system will have to change, but the problem is that if the society has been program to act on a certain way for hundred years, then it will also take hundred years to purge and have a new society. So unfortunately, we might not see it in this life time, perhaps our grand children will, but we really don't know what the future holds. Maybe 50 years from now we will have a new world order.

That's why we should operate on the premise that if we can't change the economy, at least adapt on it. Similar to what happen during the pandemic, do you guys think that we will survived if not for human's adoption?

We aren't powerless, we are the power but the problem is that we can't use that power because there isn't unity among people. There are many jobs where salaries are very low, and workers are exploited but the company owner has very high profit margins. Can we change that situation? Yes, we can. Workers can stop working and demand higher wages but you know what's the problem? If you stop working and demand high salaries, your co-workers will still work at a low pay rate and some of them will try to use this as an advantage to level up in the company. Another problem is that if all co-workers stop, others will try to use that as an opportunity to take their places instead of boycotting the company. Businesses and governments know that very well, that's why we always passively accept whatever the direction of the economy is.

You are absolutely right. Today's greater economic context includes forces beyond our control-government policy, global market trends. It is discouraging to think how little our actions affect those greater systems.

However, I think that while it is not possible for us to control the direction of macro-economic trends, there are still areas in which we can, to an extent, shape the economy in our small way.  This might affect the company's behavior and any prevailing market trends. Also, support for local businesses and sustainability does have a positive impression on the economic and social bottom line.

The second reason is that an informed person, who can participate in social and political discourse, influences local and national economic policies more with time. Individual personal behavior often seems so trivial, but they mount up, and that's how revolutions of change often get created.

Protection via sound financial and cultural planning remains paramount. It is equally important not to lose sight that we have the capability of effecting change through conscious decision-making and collaboration.

Almost everyone is concerned about the economy: prices, housing, wages, stock market fluctuations… Yet, despite our intense focus on these issues, as ordinary individuals, it seems like we can't make a dent in them. We ourselves think that we are helpless with the dominant power that can change the economy only in the structure of government, you have a lot of money, you can change it by playing a role in politics, inviting elements to strike and work simultaneously.
This helplessness will continue if inflation continues to push tax costs increasingly expensive from various sides and must form a government that is sterile in fining corruptors by legitimate leaders in their positions.

Although we may seem powerless against the large forces that shape the economy, But there are still ways to gain power. Although it doesn't always happen quickly. It is true that economic change often leads to political action and social change. This may seem impossible for most people.

While each of our efforts at voting, activism, and support for the same leaders and shareholders taken separately may not make much of a difference, such efforts put together can bring about changes at the institutional level. These processes, with a realistic appreciation of the fact that inflationary and corrupt conditions are difficult to control, may gradually result in an inclusive and stable environment.

It also focuses on personal financial agility and prefers to inspire others in this direction. It could also buffer immediate shocks of economic cycles. We may not be able to change the greater economy ourselves, but through the efforts of many and conscious decisions, change can occur in our community and trickle elsewhere.

for as long as you're still operating on a small scale point as far as the economic sector is concerned, thier is a very little thing you can do to help boost the economy for the better. Practically, you're a primary victim of the bad economy and if you're running a business in such kind of devastating economy like the one we're used to, the best thing to do is to work on scaling up your Business at the least and then you can possibly think on helping others.

Truth is that for you to effectively help remedy a broken system, the first thing is that you must thrive to come out of that system first or you're drained down while trying to help out. What can you even do to help as a small scale person? Reduce the price of your goods and then pay high transportation fees to go get them? You're going to suffer huge loss if you ever think of stuff like that. For me, I think it's best to empower yourself or better still get involved in the politics that's going on in the society or else, your chances of not being badly affected to the point others will think on possible ways of helping you will be so slim.

We are not a determinant of the increase in goods and we are also not a determinant for decision making regarding economic problems in relation to general. Life amid this condition makes it difficult because the currency loses value and difficult for people to find a source of fixed income will further affect human life. To influence the economy to be more stable, especially for ourselves, we must try to get a stable income consistently to meet all needs and in this way we can further improve the standard of living for the better.

In a simpler scale we must think about how to make money for ourselves or for family needs. The pattern can be adjusted to the skills we have and see the potential in which sectors we can develop, be it household business, plantation, agriculture, livestock and so forth. Humans must be creative if they do not want their lives to be more difficult because no one else wants to help if not ourselves

We, as a common people, have only one power - the power to vote! That's it! Rest all depends on the industrialists and the politicians. They run the world and influence the markets. As a common person, there's almost nothing you can change. That's why you still see protests and placards on the street and petitions in the internet.

Social media is one platform where you still can raise your voice and gather some support. But if you really want to change something at scale, you will need followers and supporters to support you in your endeavours.

So it's easier for a common person to go with the flow!

We're not powerless but as individuals, we've got lesser power and we don't realize that if we come together and be as one, that power will be visible from all of these factors and aspects. When companies see this power, they intend to do what's necessary and that's why there are some of them that don't allow labor unions because they know where it is heading. We don't have control over the world economy as we just have to be adaptable and prepare for the worst. And this has something to do with leaders too, so if you're living in a democratic country, choose the suitable leaders.

Do you think there are ways we can influence the economy, even if just on a small scale?
We as individuals, are the economy and that's one of the powers that we possess when it comes already. Those small scales of businesses and individuals when put up altogether create a stronger force and margin in the economy.

Or are we simply left to protect ourselves and make adjustments within this system?
That's also it, the thing is we're all surviving and this kind of life that we're having is like survival at its fittest. But what can we expect? we will wait for some superhero to save our lives and economies? no, we act on our own to save our own lives and do better with our living and that's why we're adapting.

You can try as an individual or a few individuals to influence the economy of things around you but until the government of the country makes an effort, our efforts will be irrelevant and not significant because the government are more in a position to make things work than the citizens of the country who are mere citizens and do not have the power to adjust or make new policies or regulations that would favor the economy. What you can do is try to make sure that the system does not suppress and kill you.

We can have all the control and make some positive changes within our own economy, but talking about the country's economy, I have to say it's beyond our control. But still, we can take part on some small progress on helping our fellow individuals through offering some job opportunities if ever there are chances, like when you have a small business and you need some workers on it. That way, aside that you make your own progress, you become an instrument as well to experience some economic progress on their own.

Almost everyone is concerned about the economy: prices, housing, wages, stock market fluctuations… Yet, despite our intense focus on these issues, as ordinary individuals, it seems like we can't make a dent in them.
We can't influence the economy as a whole, because the actions of one person will look like a drop in the ocean.

Economic policies, global markets, and decisions made by big companies often dictate the direction of the economy, and we can only passively accept it.
No passive behavior, we need to be active! We can use this to our advantage, to strengthen our economic position.

But does this mean we’re truly powerless?
We become powerless as soon as we begin to believe it.

Do you think there are ways we can influence the economy, even if just on a small scale?
Don't try to influence the economy, influence the "economy" in your life by trying to improve it.

Or are we simply left to protect ourselves and make adjustments within this system?
Something like this. Instead of trying to influence something big, you need to focus on the small thing you can influence, which is your personal economy.

I think this completely depends on where we live in the world.  Some of us have more power than others based on our voting rights.  Say like for myself here in the United States, we do have the power for change, however it's not as easy of a "fix" as it might seems as with our current two party system, we only have the illusion of "choice".  If we voted for changed in how we elect officials, then I believe we truly could make meaningful change that would then allow us to be able to change our economic outlook/output.

If we are part of the collective effort to influence the economy then we are not powerless.  Economy cannot be influenced by a single normal person but with collective action of these normal people, it can at least make the economy react.

As a single person it is too much for me to shoulder and think of solution to correct the economy.  I'd rather make a strategy where I can cope with the changes without lacking in financial area.  I have the power to improve my personal economy so just like the reply above me stated.

Rather than thinking of the problem and sulk because of the helplessness of changing it, I'd rather prepare myself and do certain measures that enable me to sustain myself and my family.

You may not have the capacity to make any significant change about the economy but what you need to do despite the harsh economy is just for you to try your best to focus on yourself to make things better for you. If you concentrate on the economy and inflation it can make you to lose focus and give up on the things which you will do that will bring value to you.

Do you know even when the economy is tough some people still make money for themselves,  it is an opportunity for some people to generate more money. Those who benefit in difficult economy don't focus on the economy but they think of what to do which can solve the problem of the masses. Don't wait for the government to solve economic problems, but think how you can manage to survive in the crisis.

Everyone knows that the economy is bad but their is not we can actually do to change it than to accept it the way it is because we have tried if anyone have been following what have been happening in kenya due to economy issues we can not continue to suffer in the hands of those we elected i so much respect the courage of those guys because if even they were unable to change some things at least everyone commended their effort and it is a good thing i expected Nigerians own to also go towards the same direction but the whole thing is been threaten by armed forces, and if we try and things are not getting better we can not starve all we can do is our best for our self, and also go back to the old ways all this modernization is becoming out of reach for people even medications.

people will always find a way of making money for them self and this is a decision all of us must be ready to make if it does not work then we try out a different one because we can not give up now at this point the government have extorted us to much that they don't even know what ways they can use again to extort money from people. and i love what you said about not focusing on the economy but rather focusing on how to make things better for our self, even if we want to wait for the government have we not waited enough for them to actually fix this particular problem they have created.

Globally we dont have that much power but that doesn't mean we can't change the economy for ourselves and our families because in the end we can still do that and it is us who have to change it so that our economy is better.

Currently we are in a difficult condition for economic problems but that doesnt mean we cannot survive because in the end to make our economy better we do not need to change the global economy to improve because we will not be able to do that but we can change ourselves so that the difficult conditions of the economy due to inflation and other problems are not too disturbing. This can happen when we focus on what we want to achieve and can manage our finances well by stabilizing the income and expenses that we do today.   Don't push too hard to make changes to the global economy if we are not up to it, it is enough that we can make changes to our lives in terms of the economy so that we and our families are maintained in the midst of an increasingly difficult economic crush then that is enough.

People care about the economy like prices, housing, wages...because it directly affects their lives and they care about it to find ways to balance their lives. I don't think everyone who cares about the economy wants to change the direction of the economy.

Whether we like to talk about this or not, whether we want to be associate ourselves with the current economic realities bedeviling my country or not, the reality is that we are affected by it and we must work towards alternative ways to live a better life.

Unfortunately, we have a government in Nigeria  that's irresponsible with their performance on the economy, making it a continuous unfortunate situation for our citizens at all time. The mismanagement of the Nigerian economy is unprecedented and that has given birth to the crisis we face together as individuals and as communities.

As individuals, many people have gradually become incapacitated to the point of having no food to put on their tables, while many continue to become homeless and a lot more becoming harmful to their society bringing about the heightened insecurity in my country.

That’s why they call us “dumb money”. They don’t call small investors like us “dumb money” because we are dumb literally. It is because we can’t get organized and act like one entity.

Smart money on the other hand, they are organized. Only a few people control the majority of the total wealth and they all act the same way at the same time. When they realize they should unload assets, they all do it at the same time.

Dumb money can have a chance to win if they get smarten up and but that’s never going to happen. As you noticed, if they were acting smart and organized, people wouldn’t call them dumb money in the first place.

Some small investors who control dumb money can win every once a while and that’s not very uncommon. But when you look at the bit picture, the majority of the small investors are losers.

I need to say that to change something big like a country's economy which obviously requires political decisions that issue economic policies requires a great personality, you can't change it if you don't have a clear basis for doing or conveying things that cover the macro economy.

But you can improve yourself, you can do it starting with your family's economy, you can touch it, look for opportunities in every bad thing that exists and if you can defend yourself much better than people who are struggling in your environment, it means you have succeeded in changing the economy even though it's only your family's scale.

If you think you're powerless, then you're powerless, as simple as that.

Someone who know his value and power will not think like that, example you're top 10 successful businessmen in your country or a president, you will not think you're powerless because you know you have a lot money or you have the biggest power to control your country.

If you're not 10 successful businessmen or a president, you can't influence the economy.

This cannot be touched by the little people who have nothing, when they speak out it will definitely be considered a passing wind, because those who have a much better position understand what the situation is like now, they are looking for solutions while saving themselves, entrepreneurs and presidents also cannot act carelessly, he must see the domino effect of the good and bad that is obtained if he takes action to make changes.

The government controls almost every aspect of our lives and it is frustrating sometimes.

Adjusting to the system of high inflation and imposition of high taxes is becoming unbearable, so we need to put in place a government that is willing to alleviate the sufferings of the masses. Corrupt leaders should be forcefully thrown out of office by all legal means.

We genuinely care about the prices of of wages, housing, stock market fluctuation and the general price of goods and services in our economy because it affects us directly. The question of if we are powerless, let's get it clear, the Government are the ones that collect revenue on our behalf, they generate income from our tax, they do that because it's believe those money are meant to use and run the system effectively, so that housing and goods and services can be affordable for the citizens.

Now when the government refuses to play her own part, it then means there is a breach of agreement on the side of the government on not fulfilling her part, so in a bid to show to the government that they are not being proactive to our plight, is either we protest or we wait till election comes we vote them out, to vote in leaders that will help solve our problems. In doing so it has shown that the office of the citizen is not powerless but one of the most powerful office you can occupy.
