Hi! This is Esther writing in from the Simon Fraser Bitcoin Club in Vancouver. We just put on the Coinfest Currency Conference (http://coinfest.org) this past weekend and got about 100 people out with lots of newbies, and I moderated the cross-currency panel. So I've now been invited to moderate the gender issues panel at the Texas Bitcoin Conference, but unfortunately, they can't cover any travel expenses, just my ticket. Mike, the founder of the club, is going with me and will be speaking at the Bitcoin Houston meetup a few days before as well.

Both of us are extremely active in the Bitcoin community up here, especially with the Bitcoin Co-op, which is really the only reason we're way ahead of everyone else in terms of merchants per capita (40 merchants for a city of half a million!). We put on a lot of free events too, from live fundraisers to wallet workshops. Anything to help people get started with Bitcoin. Now we hope that all our work has paid off, and Bitcoin enthusiasts will reach back out to us. Our plane tickets cost $1500 in total, and that's the amount we're aiming to raise. Anything more will be donated to Sean's Outpost.

So what's in it for you anyway? You can read the full post and watch our video here: http://www.sfu.ca/bitcoin/were-crowdfunding/

But here's the short version. The reward isn't something we can ship out to you in three months, or spend an hour Skyping with you about. But we've proven ourselves to be great ambassadors for Bitcoin in Vancouver. Mike and I like collaboration, not competition. We're helping a new Canadian startup on a unique marketplace that will make getting bitcoins easier than ever by meeting with angel investors and VCs congregating at the Texas conference, and it's something that could create Bitcoin-related jobs wherever it goes. We want to be able to say in all our future media interviews that the Bitcoin community is supportive and meritocratic, and all this comes back to our donors. I know it seems like a big promise for $1,500, but we'll make good on it.

Cheers and thanks for reading!
