Irrelevant discussion  Smiley It will never happen. They shut down nasa sooner or later because rich doesn't have to pay taxes anymore and every engineer is forced to design sports cars for the rich instead of spaceships  Smiley

Shouldn't we focus on earth first?

We have been for the last few centuries.  Look at what has happened.

Do you really think the current governments are going to change and stop raping the earth.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.
Question, if we go to another planet (a pretty complicated solution IMO) wouldn't the governments also follow us there? (or will most probably go first since they are the ones with billions of dollars budgets). also is it going to be a "wild west" thingy?  Cheesy

I don't know why these people want to waste so much money and risk their lives to visit a planet which is already declared dead.

I think that for some people earth is just not enough Smiley
In more serious note, sometime in the future we will have to colonize other planets because we will destroy all the earth's resources.
From this viewpoint, it will be good idea to support this project now.

There's not going to be colonization of other planets, there's going to be more entertainment for people so they don't riot so much and at some point even technological development will stop  Smiley
Then WW3, global hunger and burning hot temperatures  Smiley And only greedy people on this planet who only care about themselves Smiley
That's the future  Smiley

There is no risk. They are guaranteed dead once they leave.

This is great conclusion. They are dead on arrival. But from the other side aren't we all dead? They may at least something uncanny.

Just think - what would be the costs for that type of space journey - private funding sources can not do this  Grin

Private families have more money than all of the govs combined x10, if not more.  Would they spend it on space exploration? No, so your point stands.

It is one way journey. They are not risking their life. They have lost interest in it.
Leaving heavy footprints after themselves though, for some people that's what matters.

I know you're all going to be cranky sourpuses about this, but we all should be supporting This Thunderclap so we can get both people and cryptocurrencies off this lame planet. Tongue https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/20278-meet-the-mars-one-candidates?locale=en
