I used to report scammers topics and my accuracy is pretty bad, simply because scams are not moderated, they are on topic based on the board rules, and the funny part is, my comments on their threads " provided they are unlocked- not self-moderated" get deleted after the scammers report them to the mods.

but we also need to be sure that the one we are reporting are real spammers because sometimes those people who are innocent are the one who is being reported so we should consider first in reviewing their acc and their past post if they are really worth to be reported.

I report the posts that I think break the rules of the forum. Then it's up to the moderators to deal with, I doubt they take any action without to verify themselves lol and never or rarely an innocent is banned for nothing. I  also rarely check the previous user's posts as I don't need, I am reporting a post, not a member.
I make use of the report button and have periods I report more or less depending if I am  Smiley Angry Cry I do have some bad reports but I don't care, as I said, I report...then it's not my business

What are you saying? You sound like someone who haven't used the report to moderator button before. If you click on the button you'll see something like this
Quote
You have reported ** posts with **% accuracy (** good, ** bad, **unhandled).
The ** was use to replace actually numbers in the quote above. That means for each post you report and they're seen as good posts,  it won't be deleted and I'll reflect on your report page as a bad report. So it does no harm to the OP.  In conclusion reporting an innocent people (as you said) , it does no harm to them.  And if their posts was a quality one, it won't be deleted instead you'll be the one having bad report record.

I agree with what you are saying and no doubt this will surely clean the forum with spammers.. We cannot avoid those person because they double their effort in farming accounts for them to gain more profits by selling or scamming but we also need to be sure that the one we are reporting are real spammers because sometimes those people who are innocent are the one who is being reported so we should consider first in reviewing their acc and their past post if they are really worth to be reported..

I just wondered how often do you guys report a post or new thread to moderator. I am talking about the button "Report to moderator" which is at the bottom right corner of every post.

I reported 18 posts, mostly spam, with 100% accuracy. I think we should use this more often (I don't know the statistics, but considering how many useless off-topic three-word-posts I run across, people don't report enough) to make forum cleaner and easier to find useful information and useful questions and answers. When account farmers would see that their one-liner posts are getting deleted, this would also discourage them from spamming and burst posting.

i know that you want to make this forum clean but maybe moderator need to message them why they have deleted post.
like you said we can report some one liner post of the member to the mod but i guess mod should also inform them why their post is being deleted so that they know the reason why they experience that.

We need to educated them for their mistake so that they will encourage to post more constructive comments rather than post useless comments all over again

I’d report more threads but I don’t want to risk my 99% accuracy.

This is a joke right?

I've proposed this largely in this thread, a few weeks ago.

Most people preferred not to bother the mods too much.

I really don't want to bother the mods too much. But what is the use of a 'Report' link if we'd better not use it, just to avoid bothering the mods?

Spam is heavily reduced and with the last thread from theymos regarding the new upcoming newbie restrictions  is more than overwhelming. I'm sure the total post count will drop further more after the next change.
...
Anyway cheers from the Canarian Islands, perfect place to be while the cold winter (not only political) has blocked the whole Europe.
Sorry for bothering on your vacation Cheesy
Could you please just let me know where I can find someting about the upcoming restrictions?
I'm eager to read about them, but I can wait until you're back

Well it could be good to report threads that are clearly for scamming activities or promoting something that is not related to bitcoin. However, there should be some motivation so that every user must do it. I have seen already some badges that has already been introduce but up to now I did not see that it is already implemented. Besides, reporting to moderator can only be apply when one has been scam or any related activities that is offensive for the user and to the forum. Anything else the user will not report the posts because it will just take their time on doing it and this is how I feel that is why I did not even bother to report any threads that contains malicious and suspicious links and malware.

Wow, this thread is from February and the OP was last online 1st of November.
I don't think is so relevant anymore as many changes happened for those 10 months.
Anyway I don't really see the need for badges anymore.
Spam is heavily reduced and with the last thread from theymos regarding the new upcoming newbie restrictions  is more than overwhelming. I'm sure the total post count will drop further more after the next change.

People for sure are reporting more than before. Why bother making badges at all...

I'm closing in on my post count: 6616 posts vs 5400 good reports.

I've reported over 2,500 posts with 99% accuracy.

Yes, I am a tattle-tale.  Smiley

I am still far from that numbers, but I have a few hundreds.... I am trying to make reports in sessions that I post and read, rather than on spam boards like Ann and Bounties and economy, which are almost 100% spam boards... I feel more useful when reporting in less spam boards...

What about our reporter's badges .?

It seems like the last 100ish I reported nothing happened.  I've since basically stopped reporting posts in the OT and P&S subs because if the posts are not going to be removed then I am wasting my time and the mods time by reporting it.  Perhaps it just isn't time efficient for the mods to trash posts in those subs?
Perhaps, those posts are okay and don't violate any terms and conditions of the forum? Maybe according to you they look trashy but it makes actual sense for someone else? I believe, mods are doing their jobs perfectly without being biased.

When I see people say "report to mods more" I chuckle a little and think, ya I tried it, not too effective so meh, only in rare cases do I use it now.
Most of the posts that I report are acted on accurately. Nevertheless, as a constructive forum member, it's one's responsibility to report the posts they think are spammy.

I must say reporting irrelevant post to the moderator in helpful in curing the forum from the epidemic spam post.
But don't get this twisted when looking out for a spam post don't narrow your search to it being a one liner.
There are some mountainous spam post that is as long as the tower of Babel and still doesn't carry any meaningful impact and there are some brief one liner that nailed it purpose.

Always do well to read through the post before you call the attention of the moderator you wouldn't want to reduce your accuracy percentage

You're going to want to read Reporter Statistics.

For every post you report, 5 more appear.
You make it sound as if those 5 wouldn't appear if you wouldn't report that one post. Just to be sure: reporting spam is a good thing Smiley

If every user reported posts as much as they posted, then we might be able to see a decline in spam.
I'm closing in on my post count: 6616 posts vs 5400 good reports. Not all reports lead to a deleted posts, but if I count nuked Newbies, I'm pretty sure I've had much more posts deleted than I've added.

This has been suggested by Theymos and discussed, here;
I think that I'm going to add some badges for people who report a bunch of posts. Maybe one for 300 good reports, one of 1000, and one for 5000. Does anyone want to make or find these images? They have to be exactly 16x16 px (like ), and if you find them online, then they must be copyright-free.

There has yet to be any system to reward reports implemented, but it is surely on the cards. There is so much work being done about the forum at the moment, probably why it has not yet been launched.

They should maybe reward reports in some kind of form which would put some weight off the mods. They can easily moderate recent posts with the most reports. That way they don't even have to look every single report indivudually and just by action all reporters would get either positive or negative reward points.

I actually went on a reporting spree a few weeks back.  In a few days I got up to 900 posts reported with a 98% accuracy!  Reporting one liner shit posts in Off Topic and Politics & Society, it was literally like shooting fish in a barrel.  Then the next time I logged in and reported posts I made it to over 1k reported and my accuracy % dropped to 88%.

For every post you report, 5 more appear. If every user reported posts as much as they posted, then we might be able to see a decline in spam. However, the problem is that dealing with the reports takes time. And the fact of the matter is that sometimes, users will stick around despite having their posts reported & deleted multiple times. (Some examples are out there, I don't have them on hand right now)

Spammers have gotten a lot more annoying now. Rather than the grand majority posting one-liners, you have a divide of users that create padded and recycled posts and others that will separate their one-liner across multiple lines. This only makes the reports take longer to handle.

I normally report threads which are created to sell illegal stuff.
I had an accuracy of 95% until earlier today, but I think one post which I reported has not been taken into consideration. That's why my accuracy has fallen to 91%.
The post which I reported was pure spam, someone created a brand new account to post his facebook campaign report? why? The report should be into the bounty thread which he is participating, right?
