Yea feels a bit odd being on a slight uptrend leading into a weekend. I'm used to watching the price slowly drop by this stage of the week.

I agree, I was about to go to sleep and see some big buys coming through might stay up to see what happens.  Someone needs to make an alarm app to wake you up when the price passes a certain level up or down. Smiley

Bitcoin ticker for iPhone does this, but it's not 100% reliable.

I was in at:
5 @ 17.6
3.5 @ 14.201
4 @ 13.501

tonight I sold them and bought back in $.10 lower a few times (I have free trades at MtGox)

so, I'm all back in with 12.6 BTC

(Plus I just bought a new mining rig for $592 to get 600 MH/s)

So, it seems I'm in for the long haul in the BTC scene.

(I have a few small retail ventures, and they will all take BTC by next week)

I think there are now two cycles which no longer apply.

1.  The Weekend Effect -- miners have lived through enough of these to know NOT to sell on Saturday/Sunday.  They accumulate coins and dump on Monday.  Traders are still vulturing cheap coins.  There's still a bit of an effect, but nowhere near as large as the Evening Effect and Weekend Effect 2 months ago.

2.  rally/consolidate/flatline/dive.  We're far to stable to notice this cycle.

So yeah, time to change strategies.  Easy and free money was nice, but 2/3 of the total hashing power added over the last month is learning fast.

no real gains made this week...time to sell off some positions if you can (to buy back in on the weekend slump)....my guess is that we will see low 12's (the failure to break back into 14's for any major amount of time has me worried) if not high 11's. definately feeling bearish in the short term.....

then again, this is just wild speculation, so who knows? thats half the fun  Grin

as for me, i went all in at 13.1 so im holding for now...i dont see a lot of money to be made from my current position (i didnt luck out enough to get free trades from mt gox).

I am starting to see something interesting in the daily model. It seems a bit counter-intuitive, but it looks like the longer that price is held below $14 the likelihood of an extended rally being sparked before the end of August increases.

I'm not worried.  I'll gladly push it back from 14 for a while if it helps to solidify the future rally.

i hope that analysis is right, id love to see a solidly backed rally...

Just want till Euro transfers are unfrozen.... we'll have a huge run from mt gox.

Liberty reserve can't keep up with all the withdraws already. That means a LOT more money is leaving mt gox than coming in.

Wait, so DON'T wait till the Euro transfers are unfrozen... and Liberty Reserve CAN keep up?

Good time to buy in my opinion. I would except that I already spent a lot on Bitcoins and can't afford to take more risk.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

I always keep a few open orders on BitMarket.eu. You pay directly to the seller after the transaction have been initiated, so you don't have to wait for slow SEPA transfers. Still today a desperate miner who couldn't wait to get his coins off his hands filled a buy order I had at 9 EUR (~12.7 USD).

Genius, prove that your nickname has a little bit of truth to it. Buy BTCs at bitcoin7 0.5$ cheaper than at mtgox, transfer to mtgox, trade there (starting with 0.5$ profit). I can assure you that anybody who wants to get money into BTC market (and has money to begin with) can figure this trivial route out.

Yes, it is shallower, but amounts around 1000 BTCs are easily exchanged there.

It is with heavy hearts that we deliver some bad news. We just got off the phone with our newly assigned bank (SG) in France and it appears the branch we have assigned cannot authorize our account until they deliberate with their “Higher Ups”. This is due to the sheer amount of funds we expect to be processing, along with the fact that bitcoin is fringe and has ambiguity associated with it that banks don’t currently understand. We were fully expecting to announce to all that our European bank accounts are now up and ready to start processing funds, however we have been advised that we will not hear back from SG until Thursday July 21.

Euro transfers (both deposits and withdrawals) are effectively frozen, however we’re going to look at other means of enabling Euro transfers in the mean time. So please bear with us as we work to get this up and running as soon as possible.

Thank you for your continued patience, we hope to come back with some good news soon.

I had a dream last night the price spiked over $17 and all of my sell orders cleared.  Sadly, I woke up this morning and saw no midnight spike.  It would be nice if it popped back up over $16 before the weekend but I have my doubts.  I don't expect anymore big swings until after July 27.
