The source for all things bizarre, strange and odd in the world can call weird news. The best strange but true tales that have to be read to be believed. There's bound to be some odd and to make you stand back in amazement. Also of strange or extraordinary character : odd, fantastic or from various online news sources to reflect current usage of the word weird news.

Thanks for mentioning there was a video on the page - I use NoScript on Firefox so didn't even realise there was one there.  Never seen  a pic or video of you before Jeff and pleased to see you seem a great guy.  Totally agree with needing to ensure the respectability of bitcoins.

You're right. I hadn't watched the video when I started this thread - I'm not sure if the video was actually online when I first read the article, but let's say I missed it, my mistake.

So, you disagree with libertarians and are pro-government?

I wonder what's your take on this

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504943_162-20069780-10391715.html

"Garzik....is working with the government to turn Bitcoin into a universal online currency.  "

"Garzik says that they have cooperated with authorities in conjunction with Silk Road "

Let me guess:  you did not bother to watch the video and see what was actually stated.

Yeah well. What I wanted to know is whether cbs made up the part about Garzik 'cooperating' or not.

It's good that cooperation is happening to stop bitcoins being used for illegal drugs and stuff.  Bitcoin needs to be as clean as possible, otherwise there is a risk it could go the way of e-gold (I know bitcoin is decentralised etc but there are still ways governments could make it difficult to transfer money into and out of bitcoins - just look at Paypal's stance on virtual currencies for example).  Keep bitcoin clean and it'll be easier to transfer between other currencies like dollars, and thus bitcoins will increase in use and probably increase in value too.

I support the reasonable regulation of psychotropic drugs by a government.  I support anti-money laundering efforts.  I support new innovative and constructive uses of technology.
