So! I stuck the snapped piece off with a little epoxy and it is running just fine, just hope I don't get a fan blade in the leg if it doesn't go as planned! It seems all good, thanks for all your help guys!

I would consider it a temp fix.  I really strongly suggest getting a new fan before failure resulting in that piece flying off.

I have only taken one hit from one of these high RPM fans and it was not fun at all, and yes it broke skin.   After that I always watched my fingers a little better to say the least..  If it spins up to high rpm and shoots that piece were talking about a very unfun time in anything valuable around or yourself.

Do you have a soldering iron?  If you do you can "weld" the fan blade back on.  I have done this many times.

Just align the broken blade back into it's original position and then trace the break with the tip of the soldering iron.  Will melt the plastic back together. Wink

You can get a new fan with next-day, FREE shipping with Amazon Prime or NewEgg Preferred. What self-respecting mining geek doesn't have one or the other... or both*?

*I have both, lol

If NewEgg sold mining gear, it might be worth it to me. Amazon.... hasn't had much and it's been WAY overpriced lately, also not really worth it.

Perhaps when my mom passes and if I end up with $$$$$.....

So, I was carrying my S5 upstairs and, so be my luck, I fell flat on my face on the last step. The S5 didn't land to seriously and still hashes at it's regular, but the one of the fan's wings snapped off.
There are all but one and the miner shakes when powered on. I think the fan is destabilized in the case that all the antminer fans run in...
So can I stick the broken piece back on with epoxy resin (will it snap again) or can I do some other kind of physics magic to feex it?

P.S. I don't want to order a new fan, not doing that whole ship to american friend and wait 20 days for him to finally send it and get it 9 days later...

If you live in the USA I will mail you a few fans just pay the postage.

Flat rate I can send two fans to you

This could be a great opportunity to get a better fan with better cooling/noise ratio. It suck but you could make the most of it at least. They're also cheaper than the replacement stock fan i think.

You might be able to superglue a broken fan blade back to the fan, and it might even work for a while, but it won't be balanced.
Better than trying to run the fan with the blade completely gone though.
I'd stick a fan grill between the fan and the S5 if I DID try that repair though, in case of rebreakage while running it SHOULD keep the blade from doing any significant damage inside the unit.

DO NOT try epoxy. It's not strong enough, given the very small thickness of the blade.

I would use a heat gun then  use super glue  either way i would replace it for peace of mine  and to be safe. any repair he does more then likely wont hold long .

I think we have all mentioned the balance.  When that fan is spinning high RPM it really could be a bad idea.   Make sure the miner is not in area with people or that piece of plastic could be a big issue.  Or it hitting the miner depending on where it hits.

I would order a replacement with quick shipping.   I know you said you don't want to order a new fan but it would be really bad idea to cheap out on the fan.

just replace them with some thing like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Y1HLA8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00  two of these will cut down on noise and run it a lot better and in some cases run it  cooler then the stack fan, unless it's under warranty which by the sounds of it, even if it  was  they are still gonna charge you for miss use, sadly , two of those fans might run you a few bucks more but work  good on S5.

and gluing it might be a bad idea it might work a week if your lucky or forever it can happen but if it  breaks  off while it running it might cause a lot more dmg then you  want seen it happen were the blade fries  into some thing etc . those fans can cut off a finger if your not care full .  just a tip your better off buying a new one or two .Sense you live in the US three day to have it sent from ebay or amazon with free shipping shop around if you have a prime account  it free shipping if its sold by prime if your like me my prime member ship usually pays for it self in two to three month that how much at times i order off amazon. or even shop local were you live you might find a better deal local.

Ordering a new fan is your best bet.  Just as bitmain posted you can order direct from  them.  I'm not sure why you would not want to order a new fan.

You can try a epoxy but chances of you getting it balanced and able to handle high rpm is very unlikely.

sorry to hear that.  At least you are okay!

for a temp fix, not sure it can help but if the fan still spins, sure why not glue it back on.  It probably not going to stay on for too long and may make strange noise or off balance the spin while you wait for the replacement fan.  (If you go with the replacement fan, then during the wait, please find a small table top fan or something to give the S5 a bit more extra air flow around it just in case the original fan dies on you on the operating table!!)

The fan wise, we can deliver to your american address in about 2 business days.  $25USD shipped/Delivered

or if  you can take the airmail, we can try post it via airmail for you from USA or EU or Ukraine.

let us know!   [email protected]  or http://bitmain.zendesk.com and submit a ticket with your shipping info

By wings do you mean fan blade?

If so, I don't think there is any way to fix it and get it balanced again. Even if you got it kind of close to running true, would you want to be around when that piece goes flying at full/near full rpm's when the fix fails?
