I don't really think you have anything to worry about. The banks are not going to rat you out to the IRS. They may be curious as to how you got the money and may be trying to sell you services.

Tellers are sales people. If they ask you questions then your response might allow them to bring up the subject of them being able to sell you something, for example if you were to tell them that you were depositing money so you can make your car payment, then they might suggest that you refinance your car loan with them so you wouldn't need to worry about writing/mailing a check, ect.

If your activity is suspicious then they might use whatever response you provide as part of a SAR (suspicious activity report), although the response that you provide is not going to affect the fact that a SAR is created if something is suspicious.

Makes sense. Though idk why I would be makin my car payment to another Wells Fargo account lol

Thanks

I went into Wells Fargo 2 consecutive days to do a cash deposit to buy bitcoin. The second day, the teller asked me what the money was for. I panicked and said it was a website design company. Are the tellers allowed to ask me what my deposits are for? The amounts were only $100 and $200. What do I say when they ask? Is there a safe lie?
