If you are drafted in to the military, do you lose your freedom of speech?

Circa 1989 - 90, I received a Congressional nomination to attend West Point, and it was one of the most amazing high points of my life. Unfortunately, I was removed from consideration due to a medical issue with my eyesight, and that became a pretty low point. I enlisted thereafter and am now retired.
This officer, should have now been in the service long enough to know the phrase, "the stupid shall be punished" very well, and understand that he made these political statements while in uniform, and it was therefore not protected speech. He violated the UCMJ, and I am terribly sorry for the remorse his Congressman must feel having wasted his nomination on this individual. Rescind his commission, contract him to pay off his Point education as enlisted (fat chance that part will happen, but I can dream) and prosecute him under UCMJ. I could think of public whipping, and a few other choice punishments, but, thankfully for him and many others, I'm not in charge.
