This my post Dey come from the stand point of anger and for people wey no know wetin SON mean, Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) na the people wey Dey in charge of monitoring and inspecting the quality of goods and services released to the market and from the look of things, these very organization no Dey active but yet I Dey see their stamp of approval on almost everything wey Dey market because, if you don take time to observe goods like cabin biscuits to several other things, you go observe say, the qualities of these things don drop badly and yet their prices Dey increase wey no Dey right.

Now my problem and concern na if  these organization truly Dey work or na just avenue to chop money from government revenue and how the common man fit contribute to improve the qualities of these products.
The role of S.O.N for Naija no pass to check the originality of products and materials wey Dem dey sell, buy or produce for this country. Dem dey help checkmate counterfeit products for the country, but as you talk, na so e just be.
Dem no dey do work wey I dey like these days true true because I notice same thing for many of the products Dem these days, still their stp go just dey der add beauty to the carton or packaging of the product.

E go dey okay if any educated citizen wey see some of these substandard products to point am out either on social media or report am to SON, because many businesses fit fake the stamp just to avoid paying the regulation fees as members of the body.
Also, e fit be say government dey allocate money for Dem but the oga kpatakpata go connive am do anoda tin wey we no know. Whichever way it is, try dey sure say product wey you wan use na better one o, if not go for alternatives and report fake products mostly those wey dey enta belle, to the right authority.

I have not seen SON certified consumable products before. I have only seen its certification on non-consumable products like fan etc.

All products, other than those specifically exempted in the list below, are regulated under the SONCAP programme. Products exempt from the SONCAP programme include the following:

Food products
Drugs (Medicines)
D7
Chemicals used as raw material by bonafide manufacturers
Military wares & equipment
Goods classified as contraband by the Federal Government of Nigeria
Used products other than automobiles
Machinery or related spare parts for bona fide manufacturers who intend to use this for their own manufacturing purposes are advised to apply to the SON for SONCAP import permit

I think food and drug certificate should be done by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). I do not think NAFDAC go for quality. What they go for is fake and original and if what is used for the manufacturing of food and drug will not have negative effect on people.

If you know a product is not good anymore, go for alternatives.
I believe you already know say here na local board and we don Dey fight the use of pure English over the time now, and with all due respect boss, e no go bad if you try Dey use our generally accepted pigin English as this go help make am very hard for this other country men to get easy access to our local board.

Now back to the subject matter, thanks as you point these out for me because normally this my post na out of anger and I no think substituting no go even be the right correction because the one you go wan substitute for fit even be the worst.

I just think wetin we suppose do, na to call on the right agency wey Dey in charge of regulating and monitoring the standard and quantity of these products to order and let them know they’re slacking and the society is watching rather than adapting and seeking substitutes always.

Wetin we suppose understand be say the country no dey that sound and as the years dey go nah so the zeal of these organizations go dey wane. The initial agenda of the SON nah to promote consumer confidence and global competitiveness of Nigerian products and services through standardization and quality assurance but you go agree with me say no be wetin we dey see these days and e dey make me wonder wey some of the fake things we dey see for the country, them stamp no dey dey on top or wetin?
Sometimes I dey ask if there's a standard at all or why the way we bin dey see goods during the 1990s no be the same as now since them say there is a streamlined standard them dey follow or abi nah the more things dey cost Dem dey adjust?
Another thing we need to know nah be say as corruption dey the country, e go follow affect these government appointed bodies and some of them really no get relevance for here, nah just say make them occupy space.

Its not only Standard Organization of Nigeria that is involved in this kind of lapses in their duty roles, we have many other organizations as well lacking behind, some good examples are Price Control Agency, ICPC, and many other we may not be able to mention, what are they doing in regulating the economy, is the market not getting worse, are we not finding it as if they were non existence, when the government was busy crying that the economy was bad due to naira exchange rate and now that the exchange rate has been temporarily dealt with, what more should we expect from them.

We have a lot of imported substandard items from China and we are still using our money to buy some of these things costly, when we could actually take responsibility for their production internally without importing them, if you're buying something from the market, i will always advice that you check well in other not to by the counterfeit, also check the information label on it for the required specification and know the expiry date.
