You've already 2 years member of this forum, and still do not understand what and who are the whales? Obviously you've had a lot more important work to do than learn some basic things, but it's never too late to learn something new. 5 seconds on using Google search and you get this :

Bitcoin Whales are considered market players with significant funds that are able to move the cryptocurrency market. The large players being referred to are institutions such as Hedge Funds and Bitcoin Investment Funds. Some of these funds have announced their presence in the water.

The term “whale” is frequently used to describe the big money Bitcoin players that show their hand in the Bitcoin market. The ocean as a metaphor for the market is apt, since one can then extend it to include the big fish and the small fish; sharks; rallies as feeding frenzies; waves as market moves; and so forth. It may be, however, that the term “whale” has been applied to the wrong class of investor because the players described below are truly the biggest creatures in the ocean.

Yeah, if you're curious about something just try google most of the time it would give you an accurate answer. Even I also just knew the meaning of whales in google plus info here in the forum.

Just an illustration but whales is not actually based on number of your token hold but the value it encompasess. Imagine 1price of BTC reaches 1million USD then even with 1btc you could be a whale already. Got it?

I guess this a great list to have a better understanding. Discussion is most likely about exchanges where whales could manipulate the market price.

I often heard this word, whales. What is whales term on cryptocurrency? How does it affect the price of one coin?in what way?

Usually this is someone who can single handed change the bitcoin price by setting long and shorts positions usually at different exchanges and therefor move the price of BTC more that 10 %

Ex 1) there are short positions on Bitmex that might expire of the amount of 100mUSD in a day and a Whale by moving the BTC price can "crash" those positions with a huge order that will render those positions worthless.

Simultaneously he might have other positions at other exchanges that will trigger the "bot" trading army to panic sell or buy.

Therefor a whale by definition is someone who can single handed make big "waves" on the price by making the price go up or down at will.

There are many thesis what amount a whale need to have in order to create those "waves" but in reality it is really how many sell/buy orders there are on the markse so that he can "trick" sellers with a fake "sell wall" and creating panic and simultaneously buy those who panic sell.

A famous Bitmex Whale is JOE007, you can find him on twitter.

Hope this clears some of the smoke

someone who is really a "whale" is never going to give any kind of indication of being an actual whale unless they are braindead in which case they won't remain a whale for long or the most possible scenario is that they are scamming others which seems to be the case here.
that is no to mention that a whale doesn't waste their time on social media...

You can follow JOE007\s positions on Twitter, and I am sure if you see the amounts he is moving, you will not disagree that this is a whale.

I know these illustrations are based on assumption, but for the price right now? I think 100 to 500 BTC can consider a whale since those value can noticeably affect the market and make a wave.
Im not sure if you get my point. Whales could be owner of even 1coin if that coin value is really huge. Thats how we define the whales capacity. I didnt share this as the main guide but simple thought that I searched in the internet as OP has no idea right. But Im not saying the price is based on curremt market and probably this illustration has been long made.

No one can fan out the description of whale in the crypto linguistic. Just a term made by people who have a lots of fund. Not even sure if this is on the dictionary and has been accepted by general.

something interesting to know is that the term "whale" is a relative term. which means there is no real amount of money involved as the threshold for someone to become a whale. a whale is usually someone who has enough money to be able to influence the market. with that definition in different markets the amount becomes different. for example you can become a super whale with as low as $50 in a lot of the altcoins!
but the same thing in bitcoin would require millions of dollars.

Okay, clearly the term 'whale' is quite clear and a matter of Googling. Now that we've gone through this and there are posts describing it, how about we talk about a slightly more difficult thing: are whales real? Is it more of a conspiracy theory that the market is manipulated by whales or is there some solid evidence of this? Are there famous and reputable people that believe in whales? Do you believe in them? I, honestly, tend to notice that 'whale manipulation' stories usually get disproved, and I think that there are no big entities regularly manipulating the market.

Anyone who has a large quantity of certain coin, that person or group of people are considered as whales. Since they have a lot of money, they can buy or sell the coins in large quantity and market tends to pump and dump because of these whales. They are able to move the market in their favor.

The whale is served as a big fish in the ocean and the ocean serves as the crypto market. In the ocean there are too many kinds of fish, the small fish and the big fish served as holders. So whale here is the big holder that when they were going to move BTC like moving in the ocean it will cause a big wave that serves the fluctuation of the crypto market. To cut the story short here is an image or just an assumption of whale thing here in cryptocurrency.

Just an illustration but whales is not actually based on number of your token hold but the value it encompasess. Imagine 1price of BTC reaches 1million USD then even with 1btc you could be a whale already. Got it?

So Im not even at the bottom position yet. Too bad! Shrimp guys, I want to be even just a crab.  Grin

As of the moment I'm still a shrimp, I don't even have 0.5 BTC lol so I'll consider myself as an Anchovy  Cheesy and guys if this is the case for hierarchy then we should call exchanges The Aquarium, the volume is the water   Grin

It might be a good idear to use sarcasm quotes, so bounty hunters don't actually start thinking they're doing important work Wink
[sarcasm]I sometimes wonder if it would be a good idear to split bitcointalk into two forums: spamcoinhunters.com and bitcointalk.com...[/sarcasm]

@OP: If Lucius's (corrent) answer does not suffice, do the following: click on the magnifying glass in the top right corner, fill in the google search form of bitcointalk, use the term "what is a whale"

You'll end up on a page like this one:
https://cse.google.com/cse?cx=016660200577587308545%3Aesf40ml9aag&ie=UTF-8&q=what+is+a+whale&sa=Google+search#gsc.tab=0&gsc.q=what%20is%20a%20whale&gsc.page=1

about 30.000 hits on bitcointalk, this answer has been asked a lot of times already, no need to start a new topic about it. Please lock this one to avoid plain spam.
