But they're not good ideas, or even new ideas.
Who said that? Is that person competent enough? Quality of an idea can be assessed only by practice.

I don't think people understand the actual brilliance of the problem Satoshi solved.  People are coming up with other ideas all the time.  They don't see the issues with their "new" idea and show complete ignorance of why the idea won't work. 

Bitcoin, namecoin, and litecoin, which all use the ledger solution of Satoshi, have had some success.  Other designs don't seem to know why the ledger is needed.

The next issue is the bootstrapping problem.  This is also non-trivial.  There are a lot of people who enjoy wasting time around here.
