EDIT.

It's not p2p, but still, I think it's a very good open source project -- Diaspora.

The LBRY project is really interesting, I've been running their app for quite some time now and found some pretty good content on it (though rare).

I'll share the explanation given in their FAQ. Couldn't have written it better myself:
Quote
For most users, LBRY will be a place where they can find great videos, music, ebooks, and more. A vast digital library that is available on all of your devices. But LBRY is many components working together.

LBRY is first and foremost a new protocol that allows anyone to build apps that interact with digital content on the LBRY network. Apps built on the protocol allow creators to upload their work to the LBRY network of hosts (like BitTorrent), and set a price per stream or download (like iTunes) or give it away for free (like YouTube without ads).

What makes this all possible is the blockchain technology developed by the creator of Bitcoin. Do you have to understand any of this to use and enjoy LBRY? No. Does it still matter to users? Yes!

Their app is still in beta (I think) but I've not encountered any major bugs.

What I've found most interesting recently is d.tube
Decentralized tube

There's been tens of thousands of youtubers being censored by YouTube if they deemed their content offensive

They've succeeded to produce a decentralized YouTube which can be viewed with IPFS.
It's a project from the Steem community.

I wanted to invest significantly, but you shouldn't let your emotions guide your investments..
I'll still think about it, it's a good project.

You really can't keep Tor of the list when talking about P2P open source projects.

Thank you very much for your recommendation and correction. I updated the OP.

As it is corrected maybe you have something else to suggest Smiley ?
