In old days, the bitcoin based scams were coming in the name of cloud mining and now a days scammers are coming in the name of some altcoin projects and now a days every altcoin is coming with ICO plans. In between times doubling in 24 hours/100 hours kind of things were famous among faucet users.

HYIP and doubler. I was a victim of this before. It was just introduced to me by a friend so both of us also scammed. And from then on, I never ever trust any HYIP and doubler site again. It was really a painful for you because it was my first time to invest, although I lost only a small bitcoin but still they have scammed us. So better beware of this kind of investments.

Mainly cloud mining and hyip sites are biggest scam services in my opinion. You need to invest and wait for daily return on hyip sites which sometimes they are freezing instant payout options. Be careful with hyip sites before investing money which you cant afford to lose. It is kind of lottery thing and i got scammed 2 times Sad

Almost all websites that claim to double or maximize your bitcoins are scam.
No one can actually double it unless you mine or earn bitcoins physically.

There should be a rule saying: do not under any circumstances give your Bitcoins to any body no matter what they are promising you and no matter how legit and good they seem. think of it this way: would you share what you are earning with other people? if the answer is no then you have got what you were looking for.
I'm not saying every body are scammers but if you never send your Bitcoins to others for any reason other than selling or depositing to an exchange then you could never get scammed.

The common scams happening for now are those ICO shitcoins and those coins are using waves contract since it is easy to create an token and some of those scambugs run an ICO for it so that they can collect easy money for those people who doesn't know for this kind of scheme and also the biggest scam happen on history are hyips and you should be more aware on that since their are so many people left crying by those hyip site and never invest your money on that kind of site.

Most of the bitcoin scams that i know and see are the hyips that offers good returns but a low chance for you to earn profit because they might closed after a few weeks after launched and gathering of investments of bitcoin from their bitcoins and also the cloud mining sites that offering mining for their investors but most of them are just hyip in disguise.

And how to they scam ? (Apart from the obvious- phishing.)

I read things like "multiply your bitcoin" and "free bitcoin". Sounds very dodgy, I stayed away. I'm surprised they can convince people to get involved.

The words you mentioned are the usual introductory words of an obvious scam site. Even that is an obvious scam, there are still many people who easily fall on that trap. Others knows that it's a trap but still taking the risk since they have the thinking that HYIP pays at first.

How come an owner of a company can double anyone's bitcoin and gives free bitcoin to all of it's users. Those people that is seeking any kinds of online income by any means are the one who always fall to that trap.

Scam is really part of online world even prior to the existence of cryptocurrency. It will be alive as long as the number of people that always hooked to that kind of system will not be minimized.

Definitely hyip sites are the most common for me. I've been fooled twice with these sites claiming to doubke your amount in a week if you invest in them. The first hyip site i visited, bt river actually made me earn the first week but the next time i invested, now with a bigger capital, i got scammed along with a lot of other people. Too late when i checked their fb site and a lot of people are already complaining about not getting their investments back

Cloud mining, hyips and doubler sites are the most common places where people have lost huge amount of bitcoins in the past as those sites targets newbies who don't have any idea of it and easily get attracted to those sites hoping to make quick money.

The most common scams in bitcoin are the doubler sites that promises you to double your coins in 24 hours but never pays you anything in return and people who are new to bitcoin are those who surely gets attracted to those sites hoping to double their coins in quick time but end up loosing everything.

The biggest one I've seen is the whole claiming to get hacked story.  That seems to happen quite often on this forum, and there's no good way to prove that you weren't hacked.  It's a complete dick move.  And certainly there are the fishing schemes and impersonation of trusted members.  There are so many scams out there, it's crazy.

It gets me annoyed when I see "earn forever" because for me its the top criteria of a scam. If there is a list of taglines of scam it should be on the top one.

-Cloud mining, all of them. You'll never ever get your ROI unless you lure some miserable people in like yourself. (called referrals)

-Obvious bitcoin doubling ponzi schemes. (Just take a look at investor based games subforum.)

-Newbie accounts asking for loans without a valid collateral. (A true classic, they always need money for some urgent shit.)

-Web script sellers... They claim to sell online exchange/gambling scripts. They never work or even if they do, they probably have backdoors.

-Bitcoin fund managers. obvious... (check securities subforum)

"Click here to claim your free Bitcoin", "9999% after 20 days", "$4000 daily working at home"... There are many captivating titles which make you be attention on that and start imagining how good would be your life if you join a scheme like that.

There is the method which shows you texts and more texts to read, like a tutorial, everything worthless... In the end they will just ask you some money like any other scam attempt. The scam schemes innovate themselves always from time to time, so it's hard to classify them with 100% sure sometimes.

There are many types of scams present in the online market so remember one golden rule while investing. If you see any program is offering your profit percentage for investing your bitcoin with them, simply stay away, because they are called ponzi. They will give you interest for first few days, and then they will just disappear. Ponzi is the most common type of scams in online industry.

Also if any program tells you to double your bitcoin in few days, avoid them more because here you win't receive a single dime back. They will run away with your entire invested amount.

-Cloud mining, excluding Hashnest, Genesis Mining (shady) and Hashflare.

-"UK registered" companies

-Online wallets which claim to provide anonymity

-Phishing for blockchain.info wallet users (and sometimes other users)

-Any Bitcoin mining software which is supposed to be for your PC

There are many more and the obvious Ponzi scams, but I'm basing this on the assumption that you're not an idiot.

Bitcoin doublers.
Insane dayly interest ponzi
Some (or in some opinion most) ICO
The more recent pump groups

The "too good to be true it probably is"method is always one to keep in hand.

the most common scams are places where you are promised returns that are not achievable using proper business practices
would you trust a bank that offers you 1250% annual profit?
why do you fall for 4% daily income FOREVER or similar scam ads
ponzi, doublers, most of the cloud mining, some  of the ICO-these are the most common scams in BTC and altcoin realm
if you are not sure, always google "companyname scam?" or check http://badbitcoin.org/ to see if your favorite 100500% daily site is already listed there

The common scam attempts through bitcoin is the investment schemes with doubling and tripling of bitcoin instantly in 24 hours time or within a very short time period. Others which includes the chain schemes which function through referrals and goes of in a short scamming the participants.

There are lots of it and if im making a list then it would really takes time.I do only mention the common things, Bitcoin HYIP and doubler Ponzi scam sites which do promise too good to be true returns on a short period of time and these things are definitely scam so stay away and also to Ponzi scheme cloud mining sites, there are still lots of people do fall on this thing because they are blinded by those site claiming that they do cloud mining even if they arent.

Probably. high-yield investment program (HYIP). Its proven and tested. A lot of victims of this scams are mostly bitcoin noobs. Example of these are: doublers, cloudmining(not all), and even faucets. Don't trust them. Even if you searched good hyip on google. No guarantee that they are legit and paying. Better trade your btc for altcoins.

HYIP sites scam when they have collected decent amount they are wanting for. They used to kill or either make pay out pending for late investors. They keep promising and you can observed it. Thus, always keep away from something which you think is not true to make happen, always check how it works.

Bitcoin doublers and 20% interest daily are a sure ponzi and scam programs, they are good in manipulating their payment their is not backup business and they only rely from funds coming, and when it stopped it's over for them,so better stay away from this kind of programs or scheme.
