Greetings,

I am intrigued about using shapeshift...I have heard that I can purchase litecoins with bitcoins, but I wish to be anonymous when doing so. Can I make

this transaction WITHOUT submitting ANY of my personal information. What are your experiences with this service good and/or bad.

I hope to hear from you fairly soon!!!

I've been using Shapeshift for a long time and I can say that they provide a great service. Never have had any problems with them, and since they don't allow you to store any balances with them, there are no issues in terms of deposits and withdrawals at all.

However as others have stated previously, they are recently announcing an account system.

I personally believe that this is not something that will be received well in the community, and personally I'll be stopping to use them considering that they will soon be enforcing 100% verification before anyone can use them. As such, your aim of anonymous transactions may not be possible.

I think boycotting them is taking it too far.
Goes way too far. People are too easily triggered by these events, which is a bit pathetic to be honest. If you don't like a service, don't use it. It's not that Shapeshift did any harm to their users. It's forced upon them by the authorities.

But like I said on my previous reply, ShapeShift is a business; and as a business, they should make sure that their service keeps up and running.
As long as they can offer the convenience they are known for, they will eventually continue to grow after a short term dip due to their KYC requirements. All it requires is another crypto boom to attract a new group of users.

People easily hand over their private information to ICOs and whatnot, so I'm sure they won't make a problem out of Shapeshift's KYC requirements as genuine service. They'll recover for sure, no doubt about that.

Shapeshift now requires government ID for any conversion, even a low amount crypto-to-crypto. It is disappointing because I used their services 2 years without problems and it was quick and convenient. Please consider to boycott Shapeshift. Crypto should be free to use for everyone, anonymously and also possible for people without government ID. There is no reason to require government ID for small crypto-crypto trades especially when you can make small crypto-fiat trades (<$1000) without KYC.

I think boycotting them is taking it too far.

And yes, there's a reason to require KYC for crypto trades, regardless of size. I'm pretty sure Erik Voorhees never wanted to require KYC as he is a advocate of privacy. But like I said on my previous reply, ShapeShift is a business; and as a business, they should make sure that their service keeps up and running. And one of the things they need to do to achieve this is to comply with the government's requirements. Though the government might not be requiring them to require KYC for now, I think it's pretty much inevitable.

Might be worth it to use another service if you want to remain anonymous, Shapeshift definitely requires KYC now.
You can always go with blocktrades or changelly.

Blocktrades doesn't have too many coins listed, but you don't even need an account to exchange crypto.
On Changelly you do need an account, but no KYC as far as I'm aware.
If I had to choose between Blocktrades or Changelly, I’d likely use Changelly. It’s got more pairs, is more established as well, being a competitor with Shapeshift before the entire KYC thing came. I’ve used them in the past and the experience I had with them was pleasant, funds moved in quickly as soon as my transaction was confirmed.

Unfortunately, it also appears Changelly is starting to do KYC on certain transactions. I was browsing the Changelly subreddit, and one post that caught my eye was a user stating his transaction was flagged for KYC. If you’re going the anti-KYC route, I wouldn’t risk it with Changelly. The subreddit also seems to mostly be filled with negative posts towards Changelly; I haven’t used the site in a few months, so it is possible that things have changed since then.

Yeah I have to agree with you, it's just handy that you don't have to create an account with Blocktrades. I only use it to buy Steem, which isn't supported on Changelly or Shapeshift anymore.

Oh dang, looks like all these instant exchange sites will have to have KYC in the future. It definitely sucks that you can't just swap coins anonymously anymore.
We are definitely heading on that way for sure and us users who do really like anonymity will really find this thing to be irritating but for sure there would be other alternatives
which would placed up these sites soon when these tends to be centralized or do already require kyc.

Plenty of other alternatives, in fact thanks to Changelly amd others, Shapeshift had increasingly good rates and limits. That's what competition does. Only problem is others became shittier somewhat so with the new developments on SS, they won't be incentivised to improve.

Should use them now before they fully implement changes. Though I would just use a "trusted" exchange and get it done with some delay. Might even end up with a bit more if you use say Binance or trade p2p with bisq, if you're willing to wait for a taker.

You're too late because as others' have pointed out, they already enforcing KYC for whatever reason (probably Eric was put under pressure by the government) so don't used it if you wanted to remain anonymous.

Other's have posted some alternatives to Shapeshift but I haven't tried those personally. When I get tired of Shapeshift last year because of high fees, I moved to Changelly, it was a good experience but seems they're going to implement KYC as well so time to moved to other exchange platform.

I've bee using their exchange service wayback on previous years and even up to now.I dont have any complaints except on its fees but overall experience was good and that KYC thing
was introduced recently on where its users would need to comply KYC proceedings but depending on the user itself because there are still option that you can use their site
without the need of verification but if they would need later on then i would say this sites popularity would surely lessen.

Decentralized exchanges are best when compared to the shapeshift which don't ask for any information yet but still it is decentralized and they maybe ask for KYC when the transaction exceeds certain limits.I used shapeshift for buying ethereum at emergency need but not at regular basis because their transaction or trading fee is much expensive.

This goes against the anonymity principles of crypto but since they have their service and we need it, we have look for other sites.

It doesn't really go against the anonymity principles of crypto, because let's be honest, how much 'anonymity' was there before Shapeshift changed its policies? It was still a centralized service of which who knows how many data it stored and maybe even shared with governments.

I'm really glad that authorities have started forcing services to verify their users, because this greatly contributes towards faster development of decentralized platforms. If that didn't happen, we in 2025 would probably still hope for decentralized platforms to emerge, while right now we're building up the first important layers of what will become a (near) completely decentralized economy. In the crypto world bad things mostly become good things, which definitely is the case here. Smiley

I used to use shapeshifte quite a lot, especially during the time when bitcoin fees were extremely high and I needed to quickly convert BTC to another alt to save a bit on transaction fees, but KYC has killed it for me as well and I’m now looking at alternative services like morphtoken to swap coins when I need to do so. There’ll always be services like shapeshift around that don’t require KYC, but it takes a bit of digging to find a reliable and reputable one.

Recently shapeshift has started making registrations for using their exchange. Till now it used to be my first choice to exchange some coins quick and while in emergency. Simple to use and hassle free. Alas those days are now gone since they added a KYC/AML guideline for exchanges. You have to submit some personal information to be able to use them.

This goes against the anonymity principles of crypto but since they have their service and we need it, we have look for other sites. You cna try some alternative exchange linked ot your bank account if your country allows you to purchase crypto. If your country does not then you should stay away from crypto in general to be safe.

The people of the cryptocurrency ecosystem has been throwing a lot of shit to Erik Voorhees(shapeshift CEO), but I'm pretty sure Erik only implemented such privacy-wrecking requirements just to protect his business; because at some time, he's surely expecting some government interference.

While shapeshift is definitely a platform created by Erik for people to easily swap coins/tokens and I'm sure he made it with good intentions(to help the crypto space), people forget that it's still a business. It still exists mainly to make money.

i have used shapeshift, and its good i think, but i never compare fee transaction between the market (manual selling) and swap using the shapeshift, i think shapeshift are more expensive than the market, but more easy then using manual sell in the market

It remains anonymous for the moment but that is all changing as Shapeshift comes under pressure of the criminal entity called government and their enforcement agencies.
Once KYC comes into effect they will experience a mass migration away from their platform.
Their business is dead unless it decentralizes (which I hope it does).
This is the number one problem with centralized businesses. They are prone to attack from the state.
See how great regulations work? Protecting people from freedom and privacy every where.
