Silvio Micali

“The participants of Algorand network come from different backgrounds. And the Algorand network are capable enough to meet their needs since the power of the entire community comes from a large number of contributors. We are an open community which gathers end users from cryptography, economics and computer science fields, and developers, researchers together.”

Brief introduction of Silvio Micali:

Silvio Micali (born October 13, 1954) is an Italian computer scientist at MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory and a professor of computer science in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 1983. His research centers on the theory of cryptography and information security. He is best known for some of his fundamental early work on public-key cryptosystems, pseudorandom functions, digital signatures, oblivious transfer, secure multiparty computation, and is one of the co-inventors of zero-knowledge proofs.

Education:

Micali graduated in mathematics at La Sapienza University of Rome in 1978 and earned a Ph.D. degree in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1982; for research supervised by Manuel Blum.

Awards and honors:

Micali won the Gödel Prize in 1993. In 2007, he was selected to be a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the International Association for Cryptologic Research (IACR). He is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He received the Turing Award for the year 2012 along with Shafi Goldwasser for their work in the field of cryptography. In 2015 the University of Salerno acknowledges his studies giving him an honoris causa degree in Computer Science. He was elected as an ACM Fellow in 2017.

Silvio Micali believes that distributed ledgers are bringing tremendous changes to the way modern society operates. On the one hand, they can safely carry out various traditional transactions, such as payment, asset transfer and ownership, and ensure the order of transactions; on the other hand, they can support new transaction types, such as distributed financial instruments and smart contracts, remove the middle layer, and introduce new concepts of trust in multi-party interactions. However, in the existing implementation, the distributed ledger is of limited scalability and cannot realize its huge potential.

Algorand is a unique, unlicensed blockchain platform. Thanks to its pure equity-based consensus agreement, it can support transactions of billions of users and confirm transactions in seconds. Through its secure governance program and incentives, the Algorand platform encourages all users to participate freely without causing any concentration of power.

Shawn Douglass

“Data analytics companies can simplify the complex world of blockchains into a simple model by defining cross-chain analysis, monitoring, and search categories, enabling us to get clear, intuitive data for profit.”

Brief introduction of Shawn Douglass:

Shawn Douglass is Co-founder and CEO of Amberdata, a platform for monitoring, searching, analyzing public and private blockchain. Amberdata enables operational intelligence for blockchain infrastructure, DApps, and transactions. Prior to founding Amberdata, Mr. Douglass served as President of Software and CTO at Unified, building and operating the company’s rapidly-expanding SaaS offerings in cross-platform data management, analytics, and reporting. Mr. Douglass was CTO at ServiceMesh (acquired by CSC) and drove the strategy and vision of the ServiceMesh Agility Platform and contributing to IT transformation at Global 2000 enterprises. Prior to ServiceMesh, he was Managing Director at EMC Ventures where he led strategic investments in cloud, security, big data/analytics, and disruptive technology and business models. He has been a cloud visionary and key contributor to the emerging enterprise cloud operating model for over a decade. He has held roles as Board Member, Operating Executive, Technologist, Advisor, and Investor. Mr. Douglass is a graduate of Harvard Business School.

Amberdata is a blockchain performance monitoring and intelligence platform that enables real-time monitoring and insight, checking and auditing smart contracts, as well as verifying blockchain performance availability, integrity, and consensus mechanisms.

At the Mars Blockchain Summit at Silicon Valley on August 15, 2018, Shawn Douglass, CEO of Amberdata, said his reason for the blockchain analysis was that he found opportunities in the field, including: there haven’t been any solutions for operational monitoring, application performance monitoring and infrastructure visuality. Splunk, AppDynamics/New Relic or Mixpanel for blockchain have not yet been established, and there is a lack of critical infrastructure to build the ecosystem for the blockchain application layer lacks. However, there is a huge demand for blockchain data in many places for investors, traders, exchanges, auditors, regulators, blockchain business, etc. As a result, data analytics companies can simplify the complex world of blockchains into a simple model by defining categories of cross-chain analysis, monitoring, and search, enabling us to obtain clear and intuitive data for profit.
