To have good support, the site should be easy to use and the pool running smoothly. That's the basic from my opinion. There are quite a lot of other factors.

In order of importance in my opinion:
1) Trust that the owner isn't screwing people over.
2) Security of the site.
3) Reliability of the mining portion of the pool.
4) Size of the pool/Time between payouts.
5) Communication between the pool owner and users for things like maintenance and outages.
