whitepaper and team, 100% must.
I should look first the whitepaper, then a lot of factors in my opinion to consider when buying new coins. I look for those coins that have a higher daily trading volume and which have a widespread community behind them, with continuous development. The stability of the coin in the market and better exchange value for future usage is another factor.Lastly, you should consider getting different opinions from different sources like social media.

It’s better to pay attention on whitepaper. Team is important and their effort can be count in future success. Also for me as investor understandability and clarity of explanation play an important role. Sometimes team is too concentrated on their own interests and less tend to think about main audience. It is absolutely wrong
Definitely right, the whitepaper is what You should look for first before proceeding to add the Altcoin to Your Altcoin Portfolio. Just as You have said, the team's explanation about the project should be clear and have answered any necessary questions or doubts the reader/investor may have. You should also consider getting different opinions from different sources, be it from the telegram, facebook, twitter, or any other social media sites as it can be of great help having people's opinions because it gives You the idea if they are interested in the project or not. In other words, it gives You an idea if the project has a lot of Hype and if people are interested in the Altcoin. And also do some research about any other similar platforms of the Altcoin(Project) that may have been successful, this tends to lower the hype of the altcoin You are interested in as it already has a similar platform from an older Altcoin which leads to a lower chance for it to have a Higher value.

I am not interested in the cheap coins I always invest on the well known recognized coins which has been in the crypto market for years. And I will look for their price chart while investing on any coin if it is constant and steady then it is one of the best coin to invest in long term. When investing on newly launched coin we have to invest based on its usage on future, some altcoins may get expensive soon in the near future. We also can invest on the basis of market cap value the chance of getting profit in the top ranked coins is maximum.

I look at the trading volume, for how much the token has grown. And also on the roadmap, on which exchanges already list. I analyze the community in telegram.

For long-term investment, I always look into how good is coin team and product/service it offers. For short-term trading, I look into 1-month charts before buying coins. I think 1 month history is good enough for short term trading.

In general looking at market cap to seek cheap coins is enough. It guides you through overpriced coins and you don't waste time on them. Also I look for better exchanges as I don't trust smaller unknown ones.

Two thing i always look at :
1. Team behind development are they the real developer or just people with good marketing strategies. If behind the coin is the real developer like LTC, ETH, Swissborg, aeternity, quantum1net, qtum i will buy it.
2. The community behind it. Less cancer people inside community is better then many people with a lot of stressed and fud.

First, I check the total supply. I'm already out when I see them in billions. Next, they should have large numbers in volume and the community. Third is if there's an upcoming event or news that will trigger it's price to rise.

looking at the total supply is a good option to choose the coins and it is better to choose from small until medium so we still have a chance to make a profit. and sometimes, the upcoming event or news is really good for the coins because the price could be increased in one range so we can buy before the event or the news is come out and waiting until the price increase. but I think as long as the price is down, we have a good chance to see the price increase back later so I think it will only need a patient to wait the price is up again.

Technical analysis is very important in crypto currencies trading and you will need to understand how things work before you can actually make it big in crypto currencies trading. I do follow candlesticks formations including stockastic indications before placing any trade. I have tried to also follow some fundamentals news about bitcoin before investing into it.

May I know! what you mean here about technical analysis about the crypto currency. If there is any process like tech analysis please share that to me via PM.
When you want to invest on the altcoins you can check the price chart and marketcap value to defines that whether they have the growth or not. If you want to invest on ICO projects, check the dev team information and white paper understand the complete knowledge about the project.

I'm not an expert. So I just looked at the total amount of that coin. Look at the price and chart of the coin for 1-3 months. And if I see this coin can buy. I will buy it
Same here, Im always on to check their team has the capability to develop their project. The supply of the coins, the demand and the volume in these way I can able to identify if the coins is worth buying and holding for long term.

I just go through the growth chart of bitcoin, later will go through the list of exchanges in which the concern coin is listed. This will let us know the market capital and the circulation which is must for the further growth. On the whole most of the time I would go with low valued coins.

First is the price and the market value, that's the first I am looking at, Second is its number of user the more people involved with this coins are much more better and secured since they know it has also potential to grow, third is the supply if the coin supply is too much then its price value is possibley low but if the supply is just right then I go for it, and I always research on the net: top coins to invest/buy.

For going long in new coins, I look for coins that solve a real life problem and/or do something considerably better/faster/cheaper than the existing benchmark coins.
If it doesn't meet these criteria a coin doesn't have much right to exist apart from being no more than pump and dump coin, which the majority of the coins are.

Look at the supply first no matter what if the supply it low and the price is also low invest in and hold for atleast 6 months. Now I'm not talking about coins listed on yobit but the top 50 coin if you find any such coin invest in it , one such coin is xvg or even trx.

Secondly look for the number of exchanges it is listed on if it is listed on 1-2 major exchanges invest in it because most likely it would expand and get listed on other major exchanges , but keep in mind they need to have active team and developers.

I always look at price charts. Know when is the best time to buy. If price is cheap then go for it. Buy.

looking on their price is also a good indicator on whether you buy them or not but you may also consider to take a quick look at their specs on whether they have the potential to succed or not because i notice most people had always failed to do it and that that is also the reason on  why they keep loosing  their investment or trades instead of earning a profit but overall if you think that you already know the coin like for example the coin is popular and always been recomended , then go for it.

Development team, local and global support. Plus, like anything there are the trends. I would tell you to get behind a coin that promises to help the Las Vegas shooting victims right now, because whether it is trusted or not, that is the trend that will shoot the price up. Pokemon last year, Olympics, politics, whatever. These trends come and go and they produce huge profits for coins.

For some people they look at how popular the coin is; if everyone is talking about it, they jump in. For others they look at what it provides, if it suit there interest, they invest. While other look at the developers; if they have a good history with digital coin, they hop in. Others, look at the investors, if there are renowned or known popular investors investing in the coin; they invest. It depends on which you fall into.

I think the most important characteristics  I look for is the safety and demand the currency has, if it as a good backup, and the price has been going up steadily i do my research and after reading the appropriate amount of info on the coin i make the investment, always keeping in mind that this is a new comer and you should get overly excited. be patient and cool-headed.

I think I will take a look their website, read about their project and if I can, I want to talk with the dev and asked everything that I want to them so I can have more additional info to decide to buy the coins or not. I think we can search all about the project and the dev with the team so it will help us to make the decision. besides that, we can see how good the coin in the exchange and if we can buy at a lower price then we have the opportunity to make a big profit in the future.

firstly the project must be realistic and have the potential, the more coins are sold the greater the chance that the coin will pick up the price, the main thing is how this project will consist in the real world and how it will develop at all, whether it has a prospect

Of course, liquidity, code development and demand for it. And last but not least, the price, but it can greatly influence the decision. So each coin is like a complex mechanism, which one can not know at once on one of the indicators.

First I look at the technology and what purpose it will serve to a customer. Each coin has different features so in my opinion it is best to set up your portfolio in a manner that accommodates all purposes. There are other considerations including supply and the market cap, which will allow you to predict the growth of each coin depending on its supply and demand. I will tell you my portfolio and the reasons I chose these coins:

1. BTC (large transactions) - first to market, and will continue to hold the throne because it is the most widely accepted. You need this coin most of the time to buy other altcoins.

2. LTC (smaller transactions) - This coin is intended to work hand in hand with Bitcoin and the creator Charlie Lee has announced that many exciting features will be coming soon, and the possibility of many online merchants accepting this as a form of payment.

3. XSPEC (privacy) - I think with an ever increasing supply of internet connected devices and mass accumulation of data privacy will always be a concern. People want to protect their privacy and I think this coin has the best tech to do it. At its current supply/market cap, I think it has ENORMOUS room to grow especially considering the features that will supplement an already promising coin.

4. IOTA (device to device transactions) - Picture your car having a balance, that automatically sends payments for parking, or allows you to smoothly pay for gas at a gas station without having to pull out any credit cards or cash. Now imagine every internet connected device you have containing a balance that can communicate with other connected devices. I'm really excited for this one, but this is really long term.

5. XRP (banking) - This coin will for sure dominate any banking systems. I'm not too excited on the concept since it is centralized and the ridiculous supply doesn't allow for any huge growth, but I like having a diverse portfolio so I picked this for banks.

If it's a brand new coin or an ICO then we need to look at a lot of factors, like white paper, team developer and the most important is the vision, if the coin already launched in exchanges, then I will look for the support enthusiasm, if a lot for people support the coin then in the future there will be a potential to become big

the team is IMO the most imporant thing. If the team backing the coin is good, they'll can get my money! The idea is extremely imporant as well, if that something new or if it already exists in the market, and if it does exist what does it offer than the competitiion doesn't. Make sure to read the whitepaper / technical paper to understand the tech behind their idea, and see if you're still interested after that in it

Make sure it as a legit and note a copy paste,or a project with no wp, website can just ba all scam.

Getting as much profit as possible is the prime target of the coin hunters, they are bound to jump there and jump here, the fastest-earning coins are instantly brushed, this method has long been used by the hunters of coin.

Preferably, before you take action, consider the risks that will come.

Volume is another indicator for me. But not very vital. Chart analysis is on the similar level. That is almost as equal to price basis for me. It needs critical analysis. I am giving much weight to the function of the project, the updates as well as project developments. The fulfillment of what the project is indicating in their roadmap.

Join the world-leading crypto sportsbook NOW!
I read the coin's whitepaper and check the community behind it.
I also search if there's already a coin with the same idea and if so why it failed and could be improved.
For extra confirmation if the coin is good priced, I do some calculations to see what the price would be if the supply was equal to that of Bitcoin.

Really really good way to assess buys (particularly like the comparison with b/c), cheers for that is really good food for thought!
Yes, but apart from whitepaper and users and originality there are other very important things to look at:
1) dev team (whether the people are known for their previous projects)
2) partners (does the coin already have a contract or is related to a really existing and operating company)
3) PR (no matter how good the coin is, it is got to be advertised a lot or otherwise people will simply miss it)
4) project's real potential (is it possible to achieve the set goal? are there certain steps that will make it real?)

I think it would be better if you bought the coin while still being ICO. so you can buy the coins cheaper. I'm afraid when you buy when it's been a coin in exchange. the coin will have a more expensive price and reduce your profits dude. if you buy when still ico and then the coin succeeds in the exchange and successfully pump. I can assure you that you will be rich that day

I always have a look at the total supply and the circulation supply. If the total supply is too high you should always watch out Wink I prefer coins that are still under 1 mio Mcap and showing up some nice stuff Wink Elix was one of that coins the last days. But I am still hin, its a great project!

That also sounds like a good strategy- plus Elix must have made you a pretty handsome profit, nice call Smiley

First of all, you need to check their roadmap and what is the future plan for the project. And of course you need to check who is behind this project.

It is easy to buy new coins but you will also need to check the chart history and most important the 24hr Volume, you will see if people just wanting to do trading on this volumes and how much money thwy spend on it. I would recommend to see the features of that peoject before buying their coin/token.

ICO reviews through objective analysis
Well, as small investors ourselves we like to do a thorough check on why that specific token will be the next thing. That's how we got to doing reviews - for ourselves and for others like us and you to read and make an informed decision. The most important thing is that we're always objective.

I read the coin's whitepaper and check the community behind it.
I also search if there's already a coin with the same idea and if so why it failed and could be improved.
For extra confirmation if the coin is good priced, I do some calculations to see what the price would be if the supply was equal to that of Bitcoin.

This answer can direct many new users! Well formulated brief could guide and give some knowledge about! Regards.

market cap is very important but the roadmap and upcoming updates are very important for me.

For example Lisk has been falling a lot recently but I know there is rebranding coming soon, same for siacoin, falling but big announcements on the way.

I would say current price(marketcap)and roadmaps/updates

Wanted to see what long and short term speculators look for before they take the plunge and buy into current and new coins/tokens?

I know there is variable factors including circ, volumes, chart analysis but wanted to get some
inputand successes he community has had in such a volatile environment.

Thanks!

First, thou must check its resitance via checking its chart and identify the value if stability. Once you determined it already, you know how will it go for the next couple of hours/days as expcted. Through this technique, you can make profit at a short time of period.

I always have a look at the total supply and the circulation supply. If the total supply is too high you should always watch out Wink I prefer coins that are still under 1 mio Mcap and showing up some nice stuff Wink Elix was one of that coins the last days. But I am still hin, its a great project!

1. I check first that the market cap is of a certain coin not lower than ~25.000.000$ (below there are too many scams and shitcoins) and not higher than 50.000.000$ because a too high market cap means that the coin cannot grow enough (e.g. x100). Look at coinmarketcap.

2. Now I check what the people in the forum, on steem, reddit and other social media write about this coin

3. One of the most important things is to check how active the developers are (e.g. in coingecko.com), reading whitepapers, etc..

3. Then I check on coinmarketcap where to get this coin (is it available at many exchanges or just a single one?)

This is no guarantee to select only the best coins but should help to prevent total hopeless coins.

i think for new coins there is big gap for the price so we can trading with fast but be careful, sometimes the price is trapped us in high price because i have seen this before. i always take a look for 5 minutes trading for new coins and i think its enough to see how much big the different and with some step, i think we can make profit by following the price  Grin

Everyone will check the ICO coins with the promotion variation and complete information passed in the slack channel and then they will look out the whitepaper and its details in the forum.
You have to be aware before investing on any ICO because you may get scammed by anyone who scamming in the way of new ICO.

Really really good way to assess buys (particularly like the comparison with b/c), cheers for that is really good food for thought!

support behind is also important mate, noticing how dev will make a wall in order not to being played by whales sometime if you really looking for quality
project you will also look deeper from the chart allowing yourself to understand that dev really cares about his creation, I always check updates and future
plans from the team and see if they really making good movements so the promise can be fulfill not as quick as PND but realistic movements from the support.

I think people will jump from one coin to other to make quick profits with seeing the potential about the coin. But for me, I always research the coin is being supported by the community or not. At the same time at the time ICO, whether the coin has been sold in short period of time, means then the will surely have potential.

Didn't even think about the post ICO signs, have only invested in one so far which was prob a bad idea, thanks for the response as is really useful to get ideas from the community here.

most people just look at the social media and jump in whatever is hot and whatever others are telling them to buy. that is why most of them lose most of the time!

i am no expert but what i look for is fist the chart, to see how that coin is doing. sometimes there are deal breakers for me like if the coin was recently pumped and if i see the price in a bubble.
if i don't, then it is a good investment chance. then i look for the hype. that is the social media to see if it has anything coming to it in the future which can indicate a pump.

of course there is a riskier way that i have been messing around with and that is watching the market every second and as soon as you see a rise, you jump in and enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the insight and lol, me too on your last point but get really obsessive on a day-to-day basis as the markets are so volatile (and makes me go blind!) Is so hard to try and read the markets either way and have started to dabble, hoping I can learn how to read the pumps better!
