As we all know the full form of FUD stands for fear, uncertainty and doubt. It is the face when you don't know what to do with your investment because you don't have much research with you to back your investment decision. This happens when the market is falling and everyone is selling his investment. However one should stick with his research if he has confidence and faith in the same because this is not a great sign of responding to the FUD wave from the market as a matured investor.
FUD is when a person or organization demotes a competitors product by just out right attacking (open source is cancer) twisting statistics (99% of malware targets android) or by making points that don't make any sense but uneducated might believe them.

I am here for last 6 months but for the first time I just heard of these words. I just googled it when for the first time I just heard this word here. It was meant to be a prevailing of a wrong news with notorious context. So I just understood what it really meant here in trading or bitcoins development and promotions. But this is really an addition to my knowledge about this word.

i agree with all the posts here, but i would also like to add that it's almost the same as in politics. It's mud-slinging or infowar. you can call differently, but the result is the same. and unfortunately, as in politics, ordinary people suffer from the whales' games.

FUD is could be done intentionally by people to sway the market downwards or even by misprison a misinterpretation of the news if you will so for example let say you buy a coin amd start going down and you are waiting for it to go up you did your technical analysis whatever or you didn't you just bought on speculation or somebody told you buy this coin and starts going down instead of up and keeps going down what you will do is you'll start getting edgy you will feel fear now when news comes out and start saying things like doom and gloom like oh my God bitcoin going down and this looks always money or this exchange go hacked that's basically spreading of FUD. People are causing Fear Uncertainty and Doubt

When you read and see FUD, is regarded as negative. Any news item that is not favourable is termed as FUD. If it is not a positive news or information as far the cryptocurrency is involved , it can be called FUD in general term. It is used for coins or FUD affecting cryptocurrency. For instance, when you read about the social media banning icos etc, that is a FUD... fear, uncertainty, doubt.

To avoid looking for a proper mentor, trustworthy should be that they can ask you if you have any other news you read as well because you can not help him all the time that everyone is reading the news.

I still doubt that govts trying to regulate Bitcoin is all a FUD though since govts really need to do some sort of regulation if they want to continue receiving taxes from their citizens. This is the latest big scare which I think is legit.
