Go with cat6 if it isn't much more $. I use a wifi bridge to hook up my miners in my garage and it works fine, but it's just another thing that will eventually break...

Outlets are easy to change, what you want to figure out is what maximum Amp rating you want, and how many.

If it were me, I'd put in 2 outlets on a dedicated 20A breaker per miner.  That would be good for the current 3kw miners and no need for a PDU. That's assuming you are on 240V.

If you have them run wire that can support 30A, then you have some room to upgrade when the next gen >4kw miners are the norm... all you'd need to do is change the breaker and the outlet.

Of course, discuss the options with your electrician...

Also, think about ventilation. You're likely to have a hard time running even a single 3kw miner in your garage in summer without moving a significant amount of air in and out of your garage.

Hi, I'm new so I apologize if my questions might not make sense. I’m in the process of building a new home (Canada) and I'm hoping for your help in determining the best outlets to ask the builder to add. Electrical load won’t be an issue, because my area is newer with higher amp service.

Based on Antminer S19’s 20amp requirement, I should be able to expand up to 4 units on my property. However I am a beginner and plan to only start with 1 unit. I want mine in the basement in the winter for the free heat and then move it to the garage in the summer.

For the garage outlet, I will have a NEMA 14-50R, that one day I will use for an electric car. For the finished basement, I was thinking of putting another 14-50R, that can also used for an electric stove. I don’t think I will actually need a stove in the future, but thought it would be useful if I resell the house.

Questions:

1. It seems with the 14-50 receptacle, they generally don’t make any PDUs for it. The only way I found that I could power the Antminer’s C13/14 plugs is buying from an ebay seller’s specific mining power hub(https://www.ebay.com/itm/294256300465?hash=item44830ad1b1:g:LcoAAOSwyo1hR~MD). Not sure how safe it, scared to burn my home down. Are there other solutions that I am overlooking?

2. When it comes to PDUs, I think most are built for L6-30R? (Not sure). Maybe for my basement I should actually install the L6-30R? The downside I don’t think I can reuse the L6-30 for other purposes? I was also thinking another route is going with the 14-50 and running an ACWorks adaptor to L6-30, but I wonder if that introduces another fire risk?

3. What should I be doing for surge protection, what device would I need and where does it sit between, the outlet, PDU, and miner?

4. Should I ask to ask to add a CAT6 in my garage so I directly plug ethernet into the S19 or just go with wifi extenders from my living room, which I think could also be useful for my future wifi cameras.

Thank you!
