Also once you've made and verified your backups you should write zeros or random data to your entire Mac hard disk. This has to be done with special software that you will have to google for. If you don't do this someone could recover your wallet and spend your coins. Note a "reboot" (whatever you mean by that) or reinstall is not enough.
on the mac you can actually do this with the disk utility already on your system.
-->choose your partitions and then take a good break while the disk is overwritten up to 35 times with 0 and 1

I'm takin the Mac to the Genius bar to get its health checked out before I sell it. I might even ask them to clean re-boot the entire system and have it
ready for the new owner but before I go about doing all of this I want to make sure I don't lose access to my BTC.

If you want to save the blockchain and everything, shutdown bitcoin-qt first then, I would suggest just saving the folder ~/Library/Application Support/.bitcoin

then you can just put that in same spot on your new computer if it is a mac.

Thanks! I'll give this a try also If I've already backed up all files on an external HDD will my Bitcoin-Qt files be saved there as well?

I would manually move the files to your external HDD. Just to make sure, and as long as you save the wallet.dat which is in that directory and it should be saved in multiple places, you will not lose any bitcoins.

So I will be selling my computer and will be purchasing another soon. I want to know what files need to be saved so that I can still have
access to my bitcoins when I install the Bitcoin-Qt client on my next computer.

I would also like to know if the current blockchain status can be saved and uploaded to my next computer so as to not have to download the
entire blockchain data again. I'm running Bitcoin-Qt 0.8.5 on a Mac running OS 10.7.5

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
