Firmware is programming that's written to a hardware device's nonvolatile memory. Nonvolatile memory is a form of static random access memory whose contents are saved when a hardware device is turned off or loses its external power source.

I have managed to get one out of my four up and running, the other three all boot fine, connect fine, show on pool etc BUT the hash boards do not show ? No red leds on them, NEVER had this problem before ?? Pissed right off.

The one i had running i 'warmed up' on a radiator !!! Won't work with the other 3 though ??

EDIT !!!!

I have just compared the the system menu of the one that's working to one that is not and they are different ?? These are from same batch and same time delivered (yesterday)

Can i download the image of working one and flash it to the non working one ?? Please see below -

As long as it is working properly, I see no reason to update to the most new firmware version.

I have a few that I am seeing some issues with 1 or more of their chains
I wanted to try firmware before I dealt with RMA

I just got a batch of s9 units up and running and want to make sure I have the most update firmware on them.

https://shop.bitmain.com/support.htm?pid=00720161126080548570Q2tDBXAH065D

They are currently running

I see 5 options listed for the s9 units
I am 90% sure is this one

Antminer-S9-all-201705031838-650M-user-Update2UBI-NF.tar.gz

* Support S9 with fixed frequency 650M
* Remove: post mac and remote stop mining interface
* Fix a memory leak bug.
