Twitter is going through a massive purge. It is not simply political censorship - but censorship of any news that conflicts with their view. I'm really not certain who "they" are. Or what "their" view is. And that's because Twitter's TOS is selectively enforced and changes to the TOS are made frequently.
I had friends from South Asia talking about Hydroxychloroquine and had their accts blocked. They weren't advocating it; prescribing it; just discussing it. (I was lurking).
"They" are a privately owned company. I know we sometimes trick ourselves into thinking that if something is an open space that it's in the ownership of every single person and therefore an open forum without restrictions. That is not true in actual physical space on land, traditional media, or on social platforms (albeit with some nuances and differences). Traditional media has been doing this for as long as they were around, privately owned or owned by the government so I can't really be surprised by Twitter actions. Jack Dorsey even calls for two versions of Twitter, a regular standardly censured one and a wild west one with no restrictions.
Their actions might not align with our views, but handling mass screening for unwanted content is still in the early phases and it's done by both human moderators and rudimentary AI, and in both cases numerous things might come into play. Sure, there are general company guidelines that have to be followed, but humans are prone to errors, personal beliefs, and judgment, and the AI that is learning from human experience is no better.
