If North Korea even thought that they had a chance of winning, they would do it. They know that they would lose hands down.
That will be a determining factor in changing the world politics platform. Actually, North Korea with all its powers cannot try it. In my opinion no country wants World war 3 and its not the best now...

North Korea politicians and close contacts to Kim are literally begging China for food since last year while Russia donations are just a drop in the bucket - despite the sanctions supported by China.

That is exactly the reason why Kim Jong Un is still alive, unlike his friends Saddam Hussein and Muammar Gaddafi. And this sets up a bad precedent. The Americans are afraid to attack the North Koreans, as they are in the possession of a number of nuclear weapons. Now all the rogue states will try to manufacture nukes on their own, to avoid the Americans invading them.

The countries are not attacking one another, they all have nuclear weapons. No one wants his country wiped out in a day.
I don't think north korea is seriously thinking about attacking south korea, much less the united states. I think what kim is doing is just for show. He knows that north korea, if in case they attack, will not survive retaliation.

True but there is lots of evidence that America could have ended the war in Vietnam sooner, and they did not. The American Military Indutrial Complex was attempting to do what they have succeeding at doing now with the war on terror. Viet nam was meant to go on and on forever.

All "What if..." questions are meaningless. Why? Nobody knows. The people who have the ability to know if they focus on it, are the people who continually win in investing. If the rest of us had the ability to know, we would be investing, and winning money. Since we don't know how to win in investing, anything we try to predict about anything is going to be wrong, except by accident.

I suspect if NK really attacks, it will be in en mass with what they could muster. They would likely break through the DMZ with heavy casualties and manage some distance into SK with sheer weight of numbers. Then US, SK, Japanese, etc military units would decimate with conventional airstrikes, nullify NK's limited air, armor, naval, and missile potential. This would likely work out to be a couple of hundred sorties Supply lines would be cut and the NK army would be forced to die to last man or surrender peacefully to SK/US. They simply do not have a goal to fight for, other than to keep NK as NK and SK as SK. They don't want to unify the country, or destroy the US, just keep their sick dynastic craziness propagating for a few more years.
My sense tells me, if NK go in for a full scale attack, it will reignite the Korean War, but there will be no armistice based on map parallels. They will cease to exist. My sincere worry is the cult of personality is so complete, the SK/US back forces will encounter suicide attacks, scorched earth tactics, and things of this nature.

But if ever that the NoKor will do crazy thing like this they will be in hot water. US have many allies and they are all strong. NoKor should think twice before doing some craziness as they are not as strong as US. That is only my opinion. But we should also not taken for granted the nuclear weapon of the North Korea which will surely destroy the entire planet if they launch few of their nuclear missiles.

Has DPRK really got 30 to 60 nuclear weapons? And how many of them are really working? And how many from the really working are capable of attacking as far as Hawaii, US? The fact that they have some nuclear technology does not mean they have the technology to turn it into stable, far enough ranged weapons to hit the US. Of course, they still could cause much trouble to the countries that are closer even with their "experiments", but that is drawing the US closer to counter-attack ( or pre-attack ) and a country that is not capable of feeding its own people is hardly ready to win a war with such a far and powerful country as the US especially in addition to China and US supported South Korea.

Definitely it will trigger World War III as they attacked the US. We know that US is, maybe, the best or the most powerful country in the world as it is the country where technology came from. It had been a joint North/South effort for manufacturing and was a blow to them financially shutting it down after all this time.

Im sure North Korea will never be at the world map if North Korea attacks US. US is the most powerful military in the world which North Korea feared to mess with. Maybe South Korea has no match to North Korea in terms of equipment and facilities. Their alliance with the US government is enough to make North Korea vanish. But North Korea is still a threat to other country especialy its neigbor coutries coz they have the capability to destroy a country by their nuclear warheads. South Korea is complaining about this.
They cannot do it because they are really coward. They are just showing their nuclear bombs and their army but I think they just showing it to have some attention or have an image of a strong country. A country that can live without the other country. They just want that impression but they are not really that capable of having a war. They know their limit and the capabilities of its army. They know that US is far way better than them in terms of war.

They do not eliminate their government because of China. North Korea was part of a unified Korea until Communist China started to mix with the conflict.

I think, the first question is whether they are really capable of attacking any of them. The United States are pretty far from North Korea with highly advanced ranged weaponry and South Korea could be ready to defend themselves and counter-attack anytime considering their not so peaceful relationship with North Korea for decades.
They'd be flattened and they know it. They also know that China wouldn't permit it.
They also know perfectly well what they're doing. Threatening South Korea and the US is their currency and also the method they use to keep their people in line. Every government does it to an extent but most have a little more subtlety.
