As far as I know, once pruning gets perfect and made compatible with regular wallet usage, running a node while running your wallet over there maybe a good decision for some. For example, I run a full node for my main wallet because I cant fully trust anything but core, but its annoying as hell since it takes too many GB. With pruning this will be solved.

Of course, I dont run it 24h. Not sure what the incentive would be. I guess there is always someone out there doing it. We must think of ways to incentive people doing it because the numbers are going lower tho.

I'am not sure what "protecting" network means when we run nodes . but what if people stop running nodes what exactly going to happen ?
Shouldn't we be worried about this ? Blockchain size is getting bigger and bigger and people will get bored with time and most likely switch to other wallets , how that will affect to Bitcoin and what can we do about it ?

There will be no blockchain thus not bitcoin.

Bitcoins networks security blows any other and all other cryptos combinded out of the universe not just the water.

Bitcoin is free.
Nodes are free.

You can't stop free things easely ...

Bitcoin may be free however running nodes is not, maybe you are using a Free wallet (Bitcoin Core) but you will have to run it for 24/7 to help the Network and that's costs electricity which means money .

well if you use it to mine, you are not losing anything, but instead you can earn something good if you can afford it

and in any case we are talking about something that will not consume much, we are around 40w per hour...

when i run core my cpu is at 1% after the synching...

Money is always going to be there, bitcoin has not yet tap into all our aspects of life, the governments and their fiat still rule the main parts of real life services, if you want to counter electricity usage using the sun and wind would give you freedom from the electricity corporations.

we are all free to take advantage from the sun and wind we just choose not too, either because of limitations or lack of will to do so.

full nodes aren't really necessary, they can only help the network, not mandatory at all, miners are instead mandatory and they verify transactions by including them in the block

miners are the fulcrum of the bitcoin network, if you have cheap electricity it is encouraged to join the mining activity to help the securing the network, besides this i knmow that full nodes can help against sybil attack, but i'm not aware of any other useful thing they can bring to the network

AFAIK large miners run full nodes themselves, therefor you have 2 in 1 Wink
