As Bitcoin continues to hold above $10K and surge higher, almost all altcoins without exception, including even Litecoin whose halving is just around the corner, continue to crash in Bitcoin while holding their USD value more or less. There's been a lot of rumours that there might not be an altcoin season this time. What about it? What is different this time? Let's be honest and without bias so maybe we can accurately speculate what's going to happen.

First thing that is different this time is the enormous number of altcoins. There is now well over 2000 altcoins listed on coinmarketcap and over 5000 listed on coingecko. This is pretty confusing for many noobs. It's like a massive menu to choose from and properly researching any of these options can take days if not weeks, or even months.

Secondly, most altcoins, if not all of them, have not only failed to outperform Bitcoin since their inception, but have also underperformed Bitcoin, most with their value still down over 98% in Bitcoin, which is crazy when you think about it from the perspective of a traditional investor.

Thirdly, a lot of people in the previous bull run have become victims of right out scams, that launched with big promises and delivered nothing. Some of these scams are surprisingly still alive and trading. But imho, just like Bitconnect, they're only moments away from completely vanishing from the market.

So let's be honest and at least acknowledge these three important factors when it comes to this round. But let's also be honest and acknowledge that Bitcoin, in spite of its superiority to altcoins in many aspects, has had a pretty wild run already and the next bull market could potentially be the last bull market for Bitcoin. What is my highest estimate for Bitcoin? I personally would say that a maximum of appx. $100K for Bitcoin is a total possibility which can then turn into a record forever!

Where will capital move after this ATH for life? In my opinion, many will still look into altcoins as they will feel like they've most certainly missed the boat when it comes to Bitcoin. And not just Bitcoin but also many top altcoins such as Litecoin which have had a pretty wild run so far. No doubt in my mind about it. But they will first and foremost look for quality altcoins based on some past experience they can gather on the Internet and I'm writing this post to let those people know what kind of altcoins they should steer clear from. In other words, if you want to avoid getting scammed or rekt in the space, steer clear from the following types of altcoins.

1. Altcoins that have had ICOs or IEOs are usually scam
2. Altcoins that launch with big promises are usually scam
3. Altcoins with hardcoded addresses or budgets that continually pay the founders are usually scam
4. Altcoins with huge amounts of premines without airdropping addresses based on another chain are usually scam
5. Altcoins with dull brands that would hardly relate to anything with money usually won't succeed. Of course there can always be exceptions and these exceptions usually occur when the underlying technology is brand new.
6. Altcoins that splitfork from a parent chain due to disagreements without somehow filtering the whales usually won't succeed because the whales from the parent chain will usually dump the new chain. Unless of course the fork has solid reasons and support such as the fork of Bitcoin Cash.
7. Altcoins that have crashed over 99% against Bitcoin from their ATH will probably never recover
8. Altcoins with passive income such as Proof-of-Stake coins and/or Masternodes are a better option as they are like shares with dividends and are considered as income-yielding assets.

Having said the above, if you want to catch a gem, you need to look a lot further than the top 100 coins. And you need not to go all in at once but rather set some of your money aside to continue to bring your average price down in case price continues to go down. I wish you all the best with your investment.

If you like my speculative post, stay tuned for my next post about a hidden gem!
