Bitcoin is a worldwide cryptocurrency and digital payment system, called the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central repository or single administrator. According to great wiki. Decentralized has also downside w/c leads to some splits. But decentralization is also good with the premise of no single entity, government or institution that would dictate bitcoin. It should be the community. But with the rise of large miners seems the process are going centralized again because the primary goals should be the process are distributed to different nodes and to avoid a single node to have a majority of the transactions.

This video helped me a lot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIxwTx7o_B4

What I am trying to grapple with at the moment is whether Bitcoin can be truly detached from Blockchain. If it can, wouldn't Bitcoin be irrelevant once a better (efficiency-wise, security-wise, adoption-wise...etc) cryptocurrency is introduced and I guess there are many contenders at the moment. I mean how does it have its gold status?

Wow maybe this linked video could answer some questions for me of what truly is a bitcoin. Thanks for the shared link buddy, i think it helps a lot for us newbies.

Bitcoin was released in 2009 by a mysterious character nicknamed Satoshi Nakamoto. This virtual currency can be exchanged directly with an Internet connection device without the need of a financial intermediary.

Bitcoin is not considered legal but there are no sanctions. The State Bank has only recommended that organizations and individuals not invest in, hold and conduct transactions related to Bitcoin as well as similar virtual currency to avoid risks because there is no mechanism protection of interests.

In Vietnam, the profit from Bitcoin is usually purchased for resale on the exchange or investment in machinery purchased for plowing. Many people put money into computers in large quantities from overseas for this purpose.

Bitcoin that invisible kind of money but which do exist on the international network (internet) that can be used widely in nowadays time. You can keep it in a software that stays on your desktop called desktop wallet or you can buy a specific piece of hardware to keep them with utmost security called hardware wallet. You can be your own CEO for your bitcoins meaning that you and only you can command them what to do and no central authority. This is enough for me to call it the most beautiful financial and technical revolution in finance and money in our time.

For more do a google search and tons of article will come up, however you are in the right place here if you support bitcoin.

In fact, this is money, ordinary digital money that can then be exchanged for real money. But things are more difficult with time, when you learn more about it. Now this is spread out, which means that it lives and is well.

So the weekend has passed since you asked this question, have you visited the www.bitcoin.org site? What have you learned thus far?

There's a lot of great insight on this forum, and it's best found if you get specific with your questions and recognize that multiple opinions exist.

Welcome to our world, we're glad to have you here!

I was in your exact same position just under a year ago!  Loads of great content on youtube, lots of googling, some fintech conferences and a whole heap of caffeine later and I'm absolutely hooked.

this site is fantastic for info and for interacting with people from the community, and get yourself used to the slack, twitter and telegram channels as the more you get to know about the space the more crypto companies you will be wanting to follow and interact with.

Best of luck with the learning - I'm almost jealous as I remember how exciting it was to have this insane new way of thinking just opened up before me!

Just make sure you remember to sleep ha ha

you can easily find your answer in many articles or exchange sites or everywhere in the internet.

for example:
Bitcoin is a form of digital currency, created and held electronically. No one controls it. Bitcoins aren’t printed, like dollars or euros – they’re produced by people, and increasingly businesses, running computers all around the world, using software that solves mathematical problems.

It’s the first example of a growing category of money known as cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin is digital money just like what your bank has though bitcoin is way cooler than that. It is produced by solving complex math and gaining a reward after solving these problems. Unlike the dollar, bitcoin isn't issued by a single, central entity but is minted by thousands of complex machines solving these complicated math equations. You can keep it in a wallet just like money, but this wallet only exist digitally so you can't really take a hold of them like tthe dollar.

Browse through this website, it should help you quite a bit: https://bitcoin.org/en/

Essentially it is a way for people to transact withou having to have a central entity that handles the validation of these transactions. Everything is done in a decentralized way, nobody can control how many bitcoins are in circulation.

If there are any more questions then please ask.
