Can anyone explain to me what a hedge fund is in a simple manner?

It's just an investment fund, could be small/big or formal/informal -- but typically, when someone mentions a hedge fund, you assume that it is a legitimate investment fund trading large amounts of money (i.e. billions of dollars)

according to Wikipedia, A hedge fund is an investment fund that pools capital from accredited individuals or institutional investors and invests in a variety of assets, often with complex portfolio-construction and risk-management techniques.
