No Scrypt is the hashing algo used on altcoins.  diferent alt coins may use different hashing algo.

Litecoin , feathercoin and Dogecoin uses scrypt .

Bitcoin uses sha256

I hear people talking about Scrypt coins. Are alt-coins termed as Scrypt coin ?

Bitcoin is the god father of all coins and it uses SHA256 algorithm. Scrypt, SHA3, Dagger are other algorithms which will be used for POW (Proof of Work).
Altcoins can be SHA256 / Scrypt / CPU / Any new algorithm.

Go through www.coinwarz.com to get the list of Scrypt coins.

Bitcoin is SHA256d, that's applying SHA256 over the hash derived from another SHA256. It's a variant of plain SHA256. Similarly scrypt may also be vanilla or there are variants like scrypt-chacha (YBcoin)
