ICO is the shortened form of Initial Coin Offering. It implies that somebody offers speculators a few units of another digital money or crypto-token in return against cryptographic forms of money like Bitcoin or Ethereum. Since 2013 ICOs are regularly used to support the improvement of new digital forms of money.

An Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is used by startups to bypass the rigorous and regulated capital-raising process required by venture capitalists or banks. In an ICO campaign, a percentage of the cryptocurrency is sold to early backers of the project in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies, but usually for Bitcoin.

I would also add to your words that by participating in an investment in the course of an ICO, a person does not acquire any shares in the campaign and, accordingly, how much money he has invested, he will not be able to influence the decision-making in the campaign.

With respect to ico, you explain it very comprehensively. However, at present, most countries are not friendly to ico, because ico serves many frauds, and there is no specific policy to supervise ico
But I think for ICO is an initial coin offering that offers to give other ways of making money, ICO is a form of different levels of type and quality, is also a tool with money. However, not entirely all types of ICO have a good price level, there are some ICO that someone say pesky coins because of very cheap value.

ICO is a relatively new form of investment, the emergence of which is associated with the development of crypto currency. The term itself is an abbreviation for Initial Coin Offering. The literal translation is "primary placement of coins" or "primary monetary offer".
If you are interested in investments and crypto-currencies, then you have probably already come across this term. In simple words, ICO is crypto-currency crowdsharing, that is, collecting money for something on the side. Often in ICO projects are involved, which in one way or another are related to the technology of blocking and crypto currency.

Ico is a quick way to raise money, but it is not regulated, so there are many people who make excessive profits through ico. That's a bad behavior.

ico is initial coins offering, you invest when the project goes do pre sale, so you will get tokens with low prices, thats because reasong why ico can make big profit. yeah right if you find and invest in some good ico you will going to the moon, but not easy to find it brothers

ICOs are similar to IPOs and crowdfunding. Like IPOs, a stake of the startup or company is sold to raise money for the entity’s operations during an ICO operation. However, while IPOs deal with investors, ICOs deal with supporters that are keen to invest in a new project much like a crowdfunding event. But ICOs differ from crowdfunding in that the backers of the former are motivated by a prospective return in their investments, while the funds raised in the latter campaign are basically donations. For these reasons, ICOs are referred to as crowdsales.

Its important to note that unlike an Initial Public Offering (IPO), investing in an ICO won't result in you having an ownership stake of the company you're giving money to. You're gambling that the currently worthless currency you pay for now will increase in worth later and make you money.

Initial coin offerings are appealing to traders for the same reason that initial public offerings - they offer a high level of volatility as the market comes up with an appropriate price for the asset. ICOs are easy to structure because of technologies like the ERC20 Token Standard, which abstracts a lot of the development process necessary to create a new cryptographic asset. Most ICOs work by having investors send funds (usually bitcoin or ether) to a smart contract that stores the funds and distributes an equivalent value in the new token at a later point in time.

However, the difference is IPO mainly focuses on raising fiat money which are subject to government regulation and  supervision.
While there are no clear regulation for cryptocurrency, it's relatively easier to raise money based on ICO.

Initial Coin Offering or ICO is a fundraising tool in which new projects sell their crypto tokens and these quickly became effective topic of discussion in the blockchain community. But ICO's are barely regulated, so a detailed research is needed before investing in it because cryptocurrency is high risk but with high reward.

They opened their project in public to gain publicity and to be notice by us(investors) to help them gather their soft cap price(pirce needed for their ICO to be launch) and able to released their project.

An Initial Coin Offering is a new way to attract investment. Not in dollars, but in crypto-currencies - “ethers” and bitcoins. Where investors buy stock and receive shares of a company. Only in this case it’s not stocks, but tokens. And it’s not a share, but a company’s own crypto-currency. Investors buy tokens, hoping that their value will grow with the success of a project. It’s important to understand: investing in an ICO is a risky business. It’s possible to lose everything you invest. Projects that launch an ICO often exist only in the form of a prototype, or even just an idea. In this sense, an ICO is similar to crowd-funding.

ICO is usually offered by crytocurrency developers whose goal is to raise funds to develop a crypto project that they will do is a new crypto eye. This fund is needed to maximize the project which is worked out to develop faster and can be completed as soon as possible. advantages of ICO
For Developers or Developers cryptocurrency, they get the help of funds used to accelerate the process of coin development that they are working on, so that it can quickly realized and can be enjoyed by many people. For investors, they will get token or coin, which is legitimately private property of investors. And the most important is the price of Coin in the ICO is still very low.
loss of ico
Behind these advantages, there must be a loss to him. Because ICO is investing in nature, we spend the money (money) and give it to a third party (in this case the developer), yang mana bisa saja uang tersebut tidak digunakan sesuai perjanjian saat ICO yaitu dibawa lari tanpa adanya keterangan yang jelas, biasanya sering dikatakan dengan istilah "SCAM".

Good effort in defining ICO. Initial Coin Offering (ICO) is just the cryptospace version of Initial Public Offer (IPO) obtainable in the traditional stock market. Just another way of raising fund from the public to start, develop or expand a project or business using blockchain technology and smart contract. The easiest way to Crowd funding that is helping start-ups to raise fund in exchange for tokens.

This is my personal opinion:
What is an ICO? Normally, an electronic currency before being listed on the trading floor will undergo a call for capital to be able to execute and develop the project, in which the coin / token will be opened. Selling to investors at converted prices (depending on the different projects) is called ICO, understand the same as we buy shares of a company first issued to the market, For the stat up capital with crypto currency.
-----------------------------------------
So what is the purpose of evaluating an ICO?
Usually the first thing that interests me is what kind of project it works in, what kind of market or product it has, what its competitors are, who has development and consultancy, road map How much white paper, how soft cap and hard cap, how much market capitalization, how many tokens are allocated, how many% hold, are locked, ko private, pre-sale and crow- how much, how many communities, where the origin of the company ... ..

DEFINITION of 'Initial Coin Offering (ICO)'
An unregulated means by which funds are raised for a new cryptocurrency venture.

This also explains what a soft cap and hard cap is because many people still ask me this question. A soft cap is the minimum amount that a project can accomplish, and the hard cap is the maximum amount a project wishes to mobilize. Is hard or small is it good? It can be seen that last year, the caliber projects called for a hard cap of just $ 20-25 million to be able to carry out the project and profit the investors this year. began to greedily call for huge cap stocks of up to 50 or 100 million dollars while the project was just ideas and there was not a market or market that was too small to fit their hardcap. call that.
----------------------------------------------
Capitalizing on the top 100 in the coinmarketcap 101-200, just over 50tr have been added to this top, so the projects they call hard cap $ 50 million, only the Crow Price on the floor, its capitalization is enough. To stand in the top then, you think the ability to pumb or SML is high. Evaluation of a hard cap project is extremely important, but it is not a good hard cap because it depends on the size of the market and the competition for the projects it needs. Big money to hit the market potential and beat the competition grows fast to dominate the market before being swallowed.
The hard cap is so small that it can be easily understood: when we open a clothing shop, it is enough to call a capital of 300 million, but to open a cow farm 600 is still small. But often the projects with small harp cap will have stronger pumb strength than large hard cap projects.
----------------------------------------------
- ICO and pre-sale or private-sale prices are more than double that of the Crow-sale, which should be considered before purchase (this should include pre-sale or private-sale bonuses). Ask admin, the project does not admin reply to this problem I will not participate.
-------------------------------------------------
- 1 project must have a good community, such as Arcblock in terms of product without any crooked idea blockchain 3.0 is still running on the ERC ERC-20 platform but because Krypital Pr team is good, has After the success of the CMT project (Cybermiles), people are still fighting each other, fomo is good (fomo understands the crowd effect) and also x3 after going to the floor. There is no technology product.
--------------------------------------
But you absolutely do not evaluate the project based on the number of telegram members. Why, creating an Airdrop program to donate coin free a day with a few tens of thousands members, these members they join the telegram they never notice or return to that channel, because they only join To get free coin only. Refer to the community on Reddit, medium, github, Tiwtter
----------------------------------------------
- A project where the team holds too many tokens and tokens that are not locked will not be good for the offer and the token price, as they hold more than they are evaluating their project too high, assuming they hold Over 30% of the market capitalization is $ 100 million, then their team holds up to $ 30 million, which also means the hard cap is pushed too high compared to its real value.
----------------------------------
- Do not participate in Russian projects because of a scam, no or no pumb, see coinmarketcap in any of the children will not know
--------------------------------
- Do not trust the site ico such as: icoben, icofox, icoholder - These are paid to Reviews (Last bitter bear is the 70 billion bibs lost because the ICObench rate this guy 4.1)
----------------------------------
- Priority is given to projects from Switzerland because the country's legal system is almost complete for the ICO, Singarpor is also a good suggestion, these two countries are the best for the company headquarters
----------------------------------
- One project that too many participants in Vietnam also need to consider, because most of them play surfing style, some of his Vietnamese participants on the floor to the discharge than the dams of Hoa Binh floods.

ICO is a good idea to crowdfunding. But I still don't get it about the current ICO's mechanism. Why is ICO procedure too much space for scammers? Investors can't receive the token/coin directly after purchase. That will be a chance that the ICO team will run and abandoned the project after getting the money from investors.

Exactly what you have research about what is ICO. ICO stands for Initial Coin Offering. The concept of ICO's contradict with the capitalist approach in business. Usually if you're going to implement a project the most frequently question to be ask is that how much is you budget. Fortunately ICO's came to different style and approach in implementing project. ICO concept is all about fund raising activities. They will let you invest in that project and in return you will receive tokens corresponds to the money you invested in that project. And if the ICO is success on the fund raising this will be the time that they will implement the project and proceeds goes to all investors who put their money on that project. So there will be dividend among investors which being calculated by percentage depending upon how much money you invest in that project.

yes, ICO helps promote altcoin and the platform to be spread on the exchange. so it can help the crypto world always exist.

I think, a good ICO, is a success in the sale of tokens or altcoins.
I think all of them will be successful  if their token was sold out in ICO.
as long as they achieved their minimum goal it is already considered as successful ICO
Not all ICOs run well and succeed.
I think successful ICOs not only succeed in selling their tokens, but are able to create platforms that create long-term programs and useful products.
stop making coins then leave without follow-up.

I want to note that the choice of investments should be approached very carefully. Lately, most of the ICO is SCAM. As a result of investing, you can lose your money. After entering the exchange, tokens may be impaired.
Therefore take part only in the untwisted ICO.
And there is a lot of ways to prevent a fake ICO or scam ICO like reading their whitepapers reasearching to their project and many more,my advice for the people who think that many of ico is scam ,take a time for reasearching about on it.

Thanks for a concise explanation for ICO. As you mentioned its also the same as IPO which what we are doing in the traditional market. It was only change to ICO since companies is already utilizing the digital market in order to promote their project and raised fund.

yes you are right and I think ICO is a coin offer which is given the startup who are in need of funds to build a project that they run that have smart contract agreement with blockchain. ICO is also very useful to add new coin in the market and can trigger to benefit from ICO.
Hi, to my mind, many people make mistakes trying to get into any ICO. People send their ether to almost any smart contract, making them easy prey for phishers. They then send their tokens anywhere, practically giving them away in an effort to send them to an exchange or another wallet.

ICO stands for Initial Coin Offering. When a coin wants to go to the trading floor, it must go through an ICO campaign. We can understand ICO as a form of calling and promoting the coin to be known to many investors so that it can grow. ICO is currently a very popular and growing campaign. Smiley Smiley Smiley Smiley

This is really good as this is the real purpose of ICO. But these days people have been blinded about the market havoc. I mean these days ICO is all about creating a token listing it on any exchange and then just trading it by pumping and dumping it ocassionally. Even the developers go to a big sleep once they are done with the exchange listing. There are a very few projects that really work.

ICO stands for initial coin offering, that is  becoming popular lately as more crypto start-ups are using it as an alternative to the traditional fundraising methods. According to Forbes, ICOs have raised over $380M funding as of May 2017, compared to $225M in 2016, $10M in 2015, and $25M in 2014 (historical figures are from the research firm Smith + Crown).

This explanation looks clear enough for even a lane man to understand. Personally, i think with this, i can easily define what an ICO is and be able to explain in my own words. Thanks for the piece.

The ICO process is raising funds to implement a very good idea. I think this is a very good process, in order simply to not take funds in the bank at a percentage, just explain to people what's the matter and tell about the idea of the project. And of course to share your profit

For beginners, it may help to you to understand what is ICO

An initial coin offering (ICO) is a controversial means of crowdfunding centered around cryptocurrency, which can be a source of capital for startup companie. In an ICO, a quantity of the crowdfunded cryptocurrency is preallocated to investors in the form of "tokens", in exchange for legal tender or other cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin or ethereum. These tokens supposedly become functional units of currency if or when the ICO's funding goal is met and the project launches.

ICOs provide a means by which startups avoid costs of regulatory compliance and intermediaries, such as venture capitalists, bank and stock exchanges, while increasing risk for investors.ICOs may fall outside existing regulations or may need to be regulated depending on the nature of the project, or are banned altogether in some jurisdictions, such as China and South Korea.
