So I would like to sign up for an online service but use an alias, not my real information. They accept payment via Bitcoin. If I use a wallet like Coinbase to pay for the site what information does Coinbase share with the site? Does the site receive any information about me?

There is something else to consider here. Coinbase bends over backwards for regulators and law enforcement. They even do blockchain analysis on where you send your coins. People have had their accounts terminated for sending BTC from their Coinbase accounts to gambling sites. I don't even want to know what they do if you're sending BTC to a darknet market.

As far as what Coinbase shares with the site receiving the payment -- not much. They can see that the coins are coming from Coinbase and the IP address of the sender. Like I said, that would not be my first concern.

Not purchasing anything on darknet market..don't even know what it is or how I would, still trying to figure out bitcoin, LOL! It's an adult site that I am trying to remain private on.

You should be fine, then. As far as I know, Coinbase has no issues with adult entertainment. But it's generally good practice to move coins to your own wallet when spending from Coinbase, to avoid a provable connection between you and an illicit site (or a gambling site). I'd hate to get my Coinbase account closed over something like that.

But yeah, they aren't going to give your personal information to any merchant. The merchant can only see the coin source (Coinbase's hot wallet) and their node's IP address. Nothing about you.

Coinbase does not share any information. All coinbase knows is that you sent x amount of bitcoin to x address. And from the site's perspective, all they'll see is that x address sent x amount of bitcoin to them as well as any change addresses involved.

If you're concerned about privacy then don't use coinbase. Period. But i don't think that your case demands you having to take any other form of precaution since if you're an adult, accessing an adult site is completely legal.

Coinbase is not good at retaining client's privacy. You will need to provide personal identity documents in order to remove limitations.
If you do not want to reveal your information, You can use alternate wallet for better privacy guarding.
Bitcoin was known as an anonymous digital currency but implementation doesn't keep it so anonymous,a reciever can definitely extract ip address from your bitcoin address and we know an ip address can give us many more informations like county, geo location, device etcitra.

When you send a bitcoin transaction, even from Coinbase, the other party can see your bitcoin address. That is all.

Purchasing something from an adult site probably isn't a cause for concern as that is not in conflict of coinbase's T&Cs.

Nobody will know you made this transaction, apart from Coinbase. If you don't like them knowing, then you'd have to set up a full node or sacrifice some privacy(but still better than using coinbase) and use electrum/copay.

If you pay via an on chain transaction then only your address and its transactions will be seen, but that doesn't even matter since the address that sent the bitcoin belongs to coinbase and isn't your deposit address. No personal info is otherwise shared.

However, if it's off-chain using coinbase, then potentially the merchant can see your full name, email, etc. But since it's fake, it doesn't matter anyways. Just be careful since coinbase has the right to terminate your account at any time since you're using an alias and not your real info.

They will not give your identity to the site, unless if they are also using Coinbase so they can see your name. It is better to avoid using Coinbase wallet service or any other exchangers wallets, because your coins will still owned by this exchangers as you can't access to your private keys.

None information will be transferred unless the site is using coinbase too. In this case, they are able to see your name used in Coinbase in their history will appear sent from "insert name". As said other than that they won't provide them any infos. Only if you commit a criminal act or something like that
Is there anyway to tell which wallet the site uses?
I am a noobie to bitcoin so looking for the simplest process I can find to buy bitcoin then use to pay for the service.

Yes, there is a way. But it you know the BTC address, and usually Shops (or something like that) use an unique addresse for each new transaction/sale so I don't think you can know in advance the adress. Unless your purchase something and on the check out when they provide you an address to pay the order you simple abandon.
You can use Walletexplorer to know the wallet used. Usually shops/services/etc use online wallets such as Coinbase.

I don't know what you're afraid to share about with the site but if you really do notwant to share anything (not even your btc address used) you can use a mixer such as Chipmixer and you will be able to do 100% anonymous payments

I understand I need to disclose my real information to Coinbase but was wondering if they share with the site I am purchasing subscription access from?
How do you purchase bitcoin using blockchain.info?
You can purchase bitcoin in coinbase and than move those bitcoin to blockchain.info or electrum (desktop wallet) which will never ask any of your personal details.

Than you can purchase subscription in the site by sending bitcoin from either blockchain.info or electrum wallet to bitcoin deposit address site will provide during payment time. In this way none of your personal details will be shared with the site.

THANK YOU!

Coinbase is unsecure and there you usually need to disclose your identity for buying/selling. So if you use coinbase then your identity will be disclosed, but if you another desktop wallet or even an online wallet like blockchain.info only your public BTC address will be disclosed.

Do you want to create a Bitcoin wallet to buy Bitcoins with real money?

If you want to convert fiat (real money) to Bitcoin you will need to show your personal informations on the respective site.
I use only local exchange (to convert fiat to BTC and BTC to fiat) and I have had to show them my informations...
Yes, trying to convert real money to Bitcoin then sign up for a access to an online site. I use a fake name and throw away email address for the online site so I do not want them to have my real name and email when I pay them for access to their site.

I don't know if it's possible. If you want to convert real money to BTC you will need a bank account/credit card, what means they will see your real name, documents, informations, etc... That is the traditional method to buy Bitcoins that I know. Fake info wouldn't help.

If there is another one, wait for more replies.

(Talking about Exchange and not Online Wallet).

Better use different wallet except for Coinbase, or any non-centralized wallet like blockchain, mycelium, electrum this wallet doesn't ask any personal information like what coinbase did.
Like what above post said, once the site(you mentioned for an online service) you use is the same wallet like yours (Coinbase) they can see your Name or other information from you.

I think you mean bitcoin core, mycelium, electrum. Blockchain.info is 100% centralized and has deplorable security. Never use a web wallet. They're so much easier to lose money from.

Just follow the link in my signature and all of your problems will disappear  Wink
