I saw these from a post made by zilon, so I don't have ideas from the post I decides to ask, so that will understand.

Please I'm getting confused here, what's Smerit, because everybody is pointing finger at Smerit, what's Smerit all about?

Smerits means send able merits for example if you got 10 merits , that means you have 5 automatic send able merits its just this easy and it’s not advisable to store send able merits it’s meant to be given out , N/B you don’t beg for merits you earn it, it is earned logically. With your contributions to the forum you will be given and blessed with merits as a sign of appreciation for your post, comments or methodology. Newbies shouldn’t be so eager to gain merits just continue the good works and indeed your work would be recognized and appreciated.

Smerits is a short term for sendable merit, these are the merits that you can give to another member of this forum, you can gain sendable merits for every 2 merits that you are going to receive, if you received 2 merits then you will have 1 sendable merit, if you will receive 4 merits then you are going to have 2 sendable merits. We also have here the merit source, they are the ones who always give merits to the quality content, we also a normal member can give merit to others as long as it is useful and helpful to the forum.

I just want to share as well that before we don't have this kind of merit system, and you will just rank up based on the number of your posts just like what just my friend told me. Well, this merit system makes the forum better, as it makes the content more quality.

Merit is given to the users who created helpful content upon receiving merit you can get a smerit (Got 1 merit = 0.5 sMerit)every 2 merits you received you can get a 1 Sendable Merit to another member. Also, you can check the merit stats https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats so you have an idea if you want to deep into the merit stats you can check to https://loyce.club/ and to https://ninjastic.space/.

Also you already sent merit in date of February 12, 2021, 05:45:04 PM but you created the topic on March 14, 2021, 04:34:10 PM? it's too much confusion to us whats the purpose of this topic created, but I dont want to judge.
Additional information about merit and smerit in the quite above is that 0.5 smerit cannot be send. The minimum smerit that can be sent is 1 that is why when you have received 1 merit you will only see 0 smerit instead of 0.5. Let's ask op why create a thread like this when op already sent a merit where in this thread op is asking about smerit.

Merit is just like a point given to someone for making a constructive, unique, helpful or meaningful post, and it's been given by a member in the forum who is already ranked up and must have gained some merit as well, new members can't give out merits in the forum, only ranked up members can share merits, without merit we can't rank up, while smerit is the shareable merit which we can give out after you must have earned merit as well, if you earned 1 merit them you will receive 0.5 merit, you need to earn 2 merit to be able to gain 1 smerit.

For example, I want to send you a merit then it will take my smerits and once you receive 1 merit you will get 0.5 smerit. For every 2 merits you received you will have 1 smerits. In your case you got 4 merits then that means you have 2 smerits in total if you haven't send your smerits to anyone who you want to merit by sending your smerits to that person.

Does that include new members on forum, so they can send and receive smerits also? thanks for your time
Until you have received any merits from other users you don't have any merits for sent (smerits). Members here receive merits and they also receive half amount of smerits that is clearly explain above.

Maybe this will help to understand

1. when someone sent you merit to your constructive helpful post you will receive the full merits also you will receive smerits.
2. But when you sent smerits to other will not receive any merits for that. That means you are helping others for their efforts.

Just take some time to look properly through the above posts and you should get the idea. ..

Yes, every account can potentially send sMerits and receive Merits, but logically:

-   An Account can only send sMerits if it has sMerits to send

-   An account receives Merits (and therefore also sMerits to send at a ratio of 1:2 vs received Merits) it they post something that is considered interesting to another person with available sMerits.

Newbie accounts start-off with 0 sMerits, so they need to earn at least 2 Merits before being able to send 1 sMerit to another person.

Can I add a little skepticism to such a friendly discussion?
How can a person not know what is Smerit, at a time when he has already used it on February 12, 2021, and awarded the post on October 31, 2020? And he only had a question on March 14, 2021. Grin
OP, write the necessary posts, and this way you will increase your rank faster.

I am sure all beginners or nuwbie will understand very easily about the merit system if they want and want to read about forum rule and guide. But in fact asking question and creating new thread is the main solution for them to find out something confusing. This is a behavior that many beginner will probably overlook by many established member. But fortunately there are still many users who are willing to contribute and explain to the OP about the question, and it will really help him.

@paxmao has given a detailed answer to your query @Ebede, there is no need for this topic to be open anymore. If you do not want to spam this topic then please go ahead and lock it.
If you are sure the OP has got the right direction and answer, then you don't need to wait for the OP to lock the thread. Report the thread on the mod and ask the mod to lock with the reason the problem is resolved.

By the way, I highly recommend OP and other newbie to increase their interest in reading something related to the forum and its rule. This will really help them understand everything even though it is still permissible to ask question about something they are doubtful about.

I think OP has been given enough information about Smerits and now it will be the perfect time for OP to lock this topic.

A very nice presentation of information regarding merits.

Merits to some is a bothersome hindering other users to rank up. Ranking up means higher pay mostly when bounty hunting. I never had tried myself in bounty but wishing I could try if getting accepted in a campaign.

However, there are users that are here learning about crypticurrency and frequently ask questions in the forum.

Thanks to the users here that are active may it be bounty hunter or from the users willing to share their knowledge and exert efforts. Wishing to be one of them hopefully in the future.

This is an old infography I made a while ago. sMerit is what allows you to send merit to others. There are others as well mentioned here.

sMerit means sendable merit. You can get sMerits when someone gave you merit(s). For every merit that was given to you, you get half of that as an sMerit, and you can send that sMerit to any user that you want to. For instance I gave you 2 merits, the half of that number is added to your sMerits. For that record, you have a total of 2 merit received, and 1 sendable merit. If you got 1 merit from other, you will be needing another one in order for it to appear as your sMerit (0.5 sMerit is not displayed, but it do exists). You can always check how much sMerits you have when you click the "+ Merit" link on the right side of user's post.

wow now i understand that i receive merit and half of smerits. Smerits are sendable and merits are not.
Yes that's how merit and sMerit is viewed.

2 merits = 1 sMerit
Conclusion is, if you got an odd merit on your profile that means you need another odd number so that you can have a sMerit, you'll know it once you've got one sMerit.

As it is, you had 2Smerit @OP but, you've already used it in meriting Posi. So, your Smerit is burnt off at the moment. If you were smart enough to observe in your bid to merit Posi, you would as well notice your giveaway merit being written as #Sendable Merit.

It defines how much power you have to define or award the quality of a post. Some people are given monthly while other get to earn it that is, merit source and the regular forum users respective.

There is a maximum to how many merit a user can award a post by another user at a particular time and that maximum is 50. Awarding such number calls for a lot of attention so, its got to be rely earned.

You can see it through your particular case:

On the 07/02/2021, you have earned 4 Merits. @OgNasty sent you 4 sMerits (on his end), which you received as 4 Merits that added to your Merit counter. That, in turn, generated 2 sMerits for you to send at any point in time.

A few days later, on the 12/02/2021, you pressed the “Merit” button, and "merited" a post created by @posi. Although the button is called the "Merit" button, what you really send is sMerit (that confuses people somewhat). Since you had 2 sMerits as explained above, and you merited (sMerited really) @posi with 2 sMerits, the action of awarding those 2 sMerits was:

-   Your sMerit Counter when down to 0 (2 sMerits in balance – 2 sMerits sent = 0 sMerits balance). Technically, that generated a sMerit TX from you to @posi, for the amount of 2 sMerits.

-   @posi received your 2 sMerits, but the receiving end really receives Merits, so 2 Merits were added to his counter. Since every 2 Merits added to a counter also generate 1 sMerit, @posi additionally received 1 sMerit.

Easy peasy, nice and easy slightly confusing.

There are some members that are merit source, they are given certain amount of smerits each month, they distribute it to other members based on post quality and usefulness. The smerit are sent to quality posts, if you have quality posts, any 2 merits sent to you will give you 1 smerits automatically, which you can also send to others that you see their post quality of it.

Smerit is "sendable merit" on the forum and is merit that is able to be spent on other users' posts that you think are good quality.

You'll find a "+merit" button on posts and can press that to award a user with merit.

You can't award more than 50 at once and there's a limit of 50 per user per month.

You get 0.5 smerit for every merit you recieve but they'll only come in whole numbers. (so 1 smerit for every 2 merit you recieve).

What is Merit and sMerit?
You have Merit and sendable Merit (sMerit). sMerits can only be send, they have no other purpose and hoarding them is pointless. When someone gives Merit to you they lose sMerit of the amount transferred and you gain Merit as well as sMerit (which in case you can send again).

For current members, your initial merit score is equal to the minimum required to your rank. Of that, a certain amount (less than the usual half) is spendable. The spendable amount was calculated based on your current rank and the number of activity points you earned in the last year. A Legendary member who hasn't posted in the last year would still be Legendary, but would not have any spendable merit.

If someone sends you 1 merit, the 0.5 sMerit is not wasted; it is just not shown until you get another merit point.

There are stats here, and you can find someone's merit summary by clicking the "merit" link on their profile.
