If port 80 is blocked, then you have a literally nonfunctional Internet connection.

Port 80 is normal web traffic and is not normally filtered. Here at the office, I can only mine over Port 80, or through a proxy hosted on the RDP port a co-worker has setup.

Hmm interesting, didn't know that. If most ports are blocked to prevent any malicious exploits, then what's so special about port 80 that will filter out these exploits also?

Sometimes ISP's try to shape traffic and block all other ports. Sometimes you may be blocked by your proxy system.
Port 80 is the general internet traffic port, and thus is almost guaranteed not to be blocked by anyone else.

Noticed some pools advertising mining on port 80. Is it for some admninistrator an easy way to bypass the firewall?
