I think a lot of startup employee are young generation who dont have a lot money to start their project, so they need investment for their project, so they make ICO and cryptocurrency is the easiest way to support their project because people from around the world can support them, I agree there are a lot of digital nomad who work at startup too who loves traveling and go to remote area because they can do their work at anywhere so crypto will help them to do transaction all around the world.

cryptocurrencies help collecting capital for the startup by ICO announcement to invetors that will pay to earn the crypto value. With cryptocurrencies you can pay for your digit work tasks any employee all arround the world. Cryptocurrencies help avoid bureaucracy in about 80 percent of use-cases in low costs.

Depends on how good you are I guess.
Most digital nomads do remote work, consulting, etc. So i'm not sure if they'd be able to live off investing/day trading crypto. Maybe bounties, but again, they must be pretty damn good at it.
