It would depend on your investment objectives and long-term goals.
In my view, investing in altcoins should not be a passive activity. The great thing about this space is that you can greatly influence the outcome by contributing to the communities in which you participate and invest. I would avoid day trading.
Based on my past experiences and the data I've collected over the past 24 months, Goldcoin (GLD) has the most creative/talented developer and currently the best risk/reward ratio of all coins, including Bitcoin. This is because its 1.) under priced, 2.) oversold, and 3.) off the radar of most traders/investors and at the same time has excellent fundamentals; including a growing community and active workforce.
There are certainly other once-in-a-lifetime opportunities out there. Just be sure to do your due diligence before getting started.

i was in and out of many coins for years but gave up maybe a year ago'ish
it's pointless i see nothing i can stand behind and support (that is on the table now)
i would advise maybe Bitcoin if anything at all.
