Nothing is more secure than hardware but it all requires high security from ourselves.
if it's simple, you can use METAMASK on your PC

I'm into PC / Desktop wallets than mobile so which Desktop wallet can you recommend to a newbie that supported ERC20 and BNB smart contract thank you.
Since I started on doing some business with alternative coins, my wallet of choice is Metamask. I have never been of any trouble using it. For me it is easy to use also. This wallet definitely supports both ERC20 and BSC networks. Moreover, Metamask is also available for smartphone users. I use it both on my desktop and my smartphone.
If I have to choose another wallet, I'll the one that is used by lots of people.
Since you're a newbie, I think it is fine to warn you that you should store your seed properly, as well as download the wallet extension from it's right website. Be careful of those fake downloading sites of these kind of wallet.

I would have said Metamask, due to its popularity and widespread adoption, but it can mess you up especially if you want to do a quick transaction. So I'm going with Binance wallet
Metamask wallet is not safe either because you can easily connect them to any defi platform or exchanges and lose your fund, its better to use this wallet for small transactions and avoid keeping huge amount of coins on the wallet, always make sure you disconnect any connections between your metamask wallet and any platforms.
The other guy said that it won't work for a quicker transaction but you said it is easy to connect? I am confused if which one to believe but according to my experience, there is a difficulty of opening this extension and sometimes it won't open at all. I am sure that the problem is not my side but I think there was a bug on the side of metamask. It is also not easy to connect your wallet online for the same reason.

If you want to make sure that you are safe then you should only connect to the trusted websites but yes we should always disconnect our wallets after every use to ensure that all is safe because hacks can happen too on a legit website.

it's clear that you don't know web3. you can do nothing with someone's coins just because your page is connected to his metamask
Web3 has nothing to do with connecting a wallet to Dex, are you a crypto developer maybe thats how you knew that connecting wallet to any dex has no disadvantages to your assets, you sound like a newbie because if you connect your metamask to any random website you have given them the access to be in control of your funds for the time being, that's why members warned users to be careful which platform to trust.

MEW Pc wallet looks like the best one for your need, this is a desktop wallet thats based on ETH erc20/smart contract and you can also add other chain like BNB smart contract too, it works very well and they have a mobile version but the desktop is better.

I would recommend trying out Exodus. They have many additional tools and it is super easy to use. Far more intuitive to non-techies than MetaMask.

And to my understanding they do not submit to sanctions requests like MetaMask did.

Their fees on swaps are kinda steep compared to using your own non-cusodial option like SwapSpace, but for sheer simplicity and versatility, Exodus is great.

Personally, I have been using these on my personal computer: Guarda Wallet, Exodus Wallet, Electrum, Metamask,... It's safe with me after many years, and there have been no unfortunate incidents. But I also like to use wallets that support the phone because of the convenience and flexibility in many different situations.

With popular platforms like these, metamask, kepler are the ones I use often and it's safe. However, I still prefer to use wallets that support phones because of its convenience, when we cannot always sit next to the computer all day.
Everyone must have a different pleasure in using a wallet. I think those who work full time in front of a PC would prefer a desktop wallet like Metamask which many people recommend.
Like you, I also prefer a mobile wallet, which I can access even when I'm not online on my PC. I use Trust Wallet for my wallet. looks simple and easy to access. I think beginners will also have no trouble operating a device like this.
due to difficulties in wallets extensions like Metamask are settings on other networks that beginners may not understand.

I agree with what most of the posters says here, Metamask is the thing to go. Although you should know how to practice security as well because recently I have heard about Metamask users being a victim of the clipboard virus.

When we use a PC and are active online and use Metamask then I recommend locking it immediately when the transaction is complete, security features like this rarely people care because I've been hacked and lost more than $1200 and I don't know where the thief came from, always check and make sure do not keep a large balance in metamask.

I feel comfortable using metamask wallet for all ETH, BCS, Polygon, Fantom, Avax network activities even for ETH L2. Metamask has a friendly design and is easy to use for sending or trading transactions on Dex. However Trustwallet is great for mobile if you have a mobile device that you use for trading activities.

I can't suggest you the best desktop wallet as majority of desktop wallet have limited capability to access all of features that created by various dapps in any blockchains like ethereum and bsc.Metamask was the best one but this can be combine with another wallet such as MEW or mycrypto.
If you are interesting to search for the best wallet operated for ethereum blockchain and my choice was mycrypto wallet. This wallet is friendly users and it has a very good UI and UX. So far so good.
You can use this to create send or store your ethereum assets safely and you can also use paper wallet through this wallet and making your wallet will be available in keystore or paper wallet form.
This is the best wallet in ethereum blockchain,.

Metamask

Exodus

Coinbase wallet and many more.

If you are looking for the best wallet for the desktop that based on the ERC and BSC and i suggest you to take a look at math wallet and coinomi. Both were good and they are having very good reputation among the crypto currency holders to be used to store their assets. You can try to consider both from my list.

Metamask is the best option for your description, they are also safe as long as you keep your seed phrase away to anyone, just learn how to use their wallet for your own safety.

I also recommend if you’re planning to invest big money, its always good to have a hard wallet, you choose if its Ledger or Trezor they are both good who provides the best security in crypto wallet.
Yes Metamask is a powerful wallet. You can use this wallet for your desktop. You can keep everything safe here. No one will be able to do any hacking unless you give the phase of this wallet to someone. So this Metamask can definitely use a lot for your desktop.

It doesn't matter whether that was a mobile wallet or desktop wallet. The main concern is about how will be your action to make sure your wallet will be safe. You can even use flash disk to store your token and it's safe as long as you are not doing something that can make your wallet can be hacked by the hackers. This means your action to your wallet is the thing that will determine how safe your wallet it. Mobile and desktop have its own disadvantage and in my opinion mobile wallet is more simple compared with pc and in my opinion if this time mobile wallet can use finger print or retina as a way to pass the security which was really safe but desktop wallet was also good as well with its two layer security.

I use Electrum for my BTC transactions and Metamask for my ETH and BNB transactions which is also available in my phone every time I needed to transact away from my pc. Anyway, I’m not holding big money on those wallets, I still prefer Ledger, a hard wallet that is more secured and safe to use. Newbies have to use the best wallet available in the market, you can invest on good wallet first.

If you want to use an online Wallet in your Desktop then you have many options to choose.I will prefer to use Metamask extension in your Desktop because it will be very easy to use and secured.
Metamask is the best desktop ERC20 wallet, the extension is very easy to install on chrome, it user interface is very friendly and easily navigable and not complex in outlook or usage, it's well secured I don't think it can easily be hacked.
Another desktop wallet I am conversant with is Electrum wallet though is mainly for hodling bitcoin and serve other purposes well e.g signing and verifying messages, it is also well secured and user friendly having been using wallet for a long time.

Don't give OP false assurance, you have no idea where he may have gone online with his desktop, it's possible that his pc has already been infected, would you be held liable for any  future lost and malware attack?
@Tamedbeast There are just a few open source wallets that support ERC20 tokens, it is safer to get a hardware wallet, since they are the most secure when compared to desktop and mobile wallets.

I've not heard about a trust wallet getting compromised before or am I wrong? Even if this wallet is a closed source I still trust it more than metamask wallet and coinomi wallet, the choice is yours OP just make sure you keep your private keys safe.
But there's no desktop app for Trust Wallet. Coinomi does have an issue before and a user's wallet got compromised for real so it doesn't matter whether it happened on desktop or phone app.
@OP, the best option for you if the main concern is the security is to use different wallet apps for each of the coin if you don't have the hardware wallet yet. It doesn't look handy but you're safe doing it.

Hello mate, First of all I would like to tell you that if you have a lot of money then you must buy a hardware wallet to be completely worry free. Hardware says you will be completely safe.

Seems OP already got a couple of best suggestions for the multi-chain wallet. And of course, Metamask would be the right choice. But still, I will prefer for good practice to buy a hardware wallet if you may afford it. Because it's quite important to secure your digital assets. Otherwise digital scammers and hackers. A hardware wallet is the most secure wallet for storing your cryptocurrency.

Electrum for BTC and MetaMask for ETH/BNB/ERC20/BEP20.

Obviously, if you're holding a good amount of money and you don't want to get hacked, buy a hardware wallet.

https://ledger.com/
https://trezor.io/
Metamask even supports almost all Old networks up to some New networks and ETH L2 Networks.
Addon application that must be installed to manage Wallet on the desktop. MetaMask's strengths also provide easy access to the world of Ethereum DApps, thanks to its easy setup and availability on both desktop and mobile platforms. It's hard to imagine how the decentralized financial sector (DeFi) would have grown this far if it weren't for MetaMask.

For other swallow hardware that is mandatory to have is Safepal, a hardware wallet that is quite complete in features and supports all networks and has many airdrops for hardware wallet holders.

If you want a wallet only for ERC20 (ethereum tokens) and BEP20 (binance smart chain tokens), MetaMask may be a good option for you.
On desktop, you can install its extension on Chrome or Firefox browser.

As Metamask is open-source, I think it's better than close-source wallets like Coinomi and Exodus.
Note that MetaMask is a hot wallet and it's not recommended to use it for big amounts. As mentioned by Lucius, if you want more security, you should use a hardware wallet.

When it comes to the desktop multi-currency wallets, most users opt for Coinomi or Exodus, so I would recommend you to try both and see which one suits your needs better. What many will cite as the downside of these wallets is that they are not open source, but considering that they are free wallets, this is a risk you have to accept.

If you want a higher level of security, you need a hardware wallet - Trezor supports what you need and it is open source.
