I started my mining-adventure with GUIminer, and I have to say - for a newbie, it is easy to configurate, has many pool's already configurated - you need to put your login and password and start mining Smiley. However for some reason it gives me more Mhash/s on my HD6850 than f.ex. phoenix with agression 11.

GUIminer for ease of use, cgminer/Phoenix for speed/efficiency. The differences in speed are minimal, though, so use whatever you find easiest.

Do not mine with nvidia 8800gt.
Like the others said it's not going to earn anything more than a lot of heat, noice and big power bill.

If you want to walk on water, get out of the boat
I see, either way though my PC is up 24/7 so I wouldn't really be wasting any electricity I don't normally waste Smiley

I'll give Guiminer a try then, thanks Smiley
An idle computer consume much much much less than a fully used system (and bitcoin mining will make your card to be fully used)

Well no that isn't true.  A system in idle may draw <50W.  A system with GPU blasting at 100% load will be drawing a lot more.  How much depends on the wattage of your GPU but we are talking about hundreds of extra watts.  The cost of just those watts (excluding any system idle draw which would exist anyways) will be much higher than the value of the coins you produce.

In a while (couple weeks, is the latest estimate) CoinLab will have a client that will use your NVidia for doing computations in which bitcoins can be earned.  You can do Bitcoin mining with them now and earn loyalty credits as well which will guarantee a minimum revenue level for future mining.

None.

8800GT is going to produce less coins than it costs in electricity.  Kinda like burning $10 USD to produce $1 USD worth of heat for your home.

Mining with a nvidia card is a bad idea, it's mining performance are pretty bad.

Anyway, give Guiminer a try

Hey guys,
So I'm actually just getting into mining coins and I've noticed there are A LOT of miners out there rendering me incapable of choosing one Tongue

So to keep it simple what would be the best miner software to use with an 8800GT? Also I will be joining a pool, not sure if all the software supports it so just in case Smiley

Thanks Smiley
